Still enjoying this series, and this installment picked up (ei: fewer slow parts) and kept me eagerly turning pages. It seems to be falling into a little bit of the same ‘ol, same ‘ol, though. Same demons (plus a couple), same problems, same resolutions, same frustrations, etc. etc.

The character growth is somewhat stalled, as well. Except for a small (but vital) revelation for Max, not much changed or deepened with her or in any of her relationships either. I’ve read and loved other series from this author so I know she writes very little romance into her books, but it is still nice to have some growth and progression in her character’s relationships.

And what is it with Max’s power? She has known she has it for a couple of books now, AND she knows it can completely incapacitate and/or kill. Yet, she never thinks to use it until the moment everyone is going to die?! And even then she only thinks to “hold” the baddies, not STOP the baddies?!? Drives me crazy every time.

Still, I want to see her save the world and, hopefully, get some credit for everything she has done in the past four books. It might be asking too much, but it would also be nice if we saw her and Bryce actually become something together, as well… yeah, I know, but I can dream. :)
