Yeah, so, hmmm, really not sure how to rate this. I guess I did kind of like it so I'll round up to 3 stars, but it had a lot working against it so like maybe upper 2 stars...
🎵I think I’ve seen this film before and I didn’t like the ending…”🎶
This shit feels real familiar. Penny’s got another extremely hot man in his late twenties/early thirties(?) who’s never had sex before 😪 I’m tired of this, grandpa. I will say Isaac’s life lent more plausibility to this situation than most of her Winston virgins/born again virgins, so there’s that, but I just really don’t love a virgin H, sorry 🤷🏼♀️ It also doesn't help that I expected Isaac to be a hardened criminal. Can't remember if we were disabused of that notion in a previous book, but idk, he was in an MC, he was awful to his sister. I wanted a bad boy. I thought I was getting a big, bad, biker. What I got was a marshmallow. A marshmallow who kills people, but a marshmallow nonetheless. Also, Hannah's forever crush on a guy that she doesn't know and is never around and blahblah, also familiar, also happened before in a Winston book.
And then the second part of the lyrics…I didn’t like the ending of this book 😅 it was teased from early on and I hatedddd that idea. I held out hope it wouldn't come to that but as it was repeated and repeated I came to terms with the fact they were gonna do it when it was absolutely not necessary and selfish so yeah it was just kinda a downer the whole time and made me eager to finish the book so I could move on to something more fun which sucks because I’ve been looking forward to this book for so long!
Speaking of, I’m not a diehard PR fan, some of her books I absolutely love and some I loathe 🤗 but the stripper with the heart of gold and the MC recruit criminal who abandoned his family sounded fun! It was teased at the end of a book and I couldn't wait, but then she swapped it with Bananapants release due to personal reasons, fine, could've been exciting for me if I wanted to read Bananapants, but author's ruining their own character's HEAs with nonsense in their next gen spinoffs is SO FUCKING ANNOYING. Quinn would not go a decade without talking to his son after what happened to his own family. Never, ever, ever. Janie also wouldn't let that happen. There is no reason or justification other than him being a shit dad or Desmond being evil or something and neither of those is acceptable. So noppppe. Never reading that, that book does not exist 😌. *Bananapants rant over* So anyway that swap sucked, but THEN, she pushed it back again so one of her many Kickstarters wouldn't overshadow the release, feels like something we could've known the first time we pushed it back, but OKAY. So all that to say my want for this book and getting denied and pushed back again and again just made the expectations that much higher and needless to say it didn’t meet them.
I wanted way more redemption for Isaac. I think Jennifer had it right when she let him have it. I think his actions were selfish and he could've found a million other ways to keep in contact with her, but not live in Green Valley if he didn't want that/if it wasn't safe. Slight career change but still in law enforcement. Different city, but visitable, ya know, normal I can't live in my hometown stuff, but for some reason Penny had to blow this shit up. The plot finally went somewhere to make his actions less selfish and more necessary but that was also annoying 🤪 lol and he was gonna do it anyway even if the case went perfectly and there was no need so basically I didn't love the crime aspect of this book. It wasn't well done or intriguing, it was very random and obvious and sloppy. Any criminal with half a brain could figure out the leak in two seconds but okay. Also this criminal who's so evil and bad but he doesn't touch strippers just laughs at them while they strip tease him in weird costumes? 😶 So scary... Idk man I just wanted more from this book. Hannah was pretty cute and I loved how multi talented and humble she was. Her life and family situation was pretty depressing so again, I see why she might want to move, but we didn't need to go with the ending we got 🙄
ANYWAY. This was alright, I liked some of the cameos and getting to know Tina lol never expected to like her. I also love a man having the wrong idea about someone and treating them poorly like Isaac did in the beginning before finding out Hannah’s the best and slowly falling in love with her. But I can't say I'm happy to have read this book, at this point I'm mostly just happy it's over. Hopefully I like my next read more🙏
