      Tuesday, the fine cougar next door stepped out her front door to water her potted plants. She’d finally gotten rid of the dead weight called a husband about a year ago. But it baffled Chet that he hadn’t seen Veronica go out on a date since then.

      He figured she had to be prime for some serious TLC.

      Right then and there, he made up his mind. He’d patiently waited for just the right time.

      He pulled out the junk mail that had arrived last month in his mailbox and headed to the yellow house next door.

      Mrs. Brodowski. It was habit. There was something so damned tempting about an older woman and using her surname.

      Chet’s parents had moved into the house on Braker Road ten years ago. Chet had been twenty. He’d finished his degree at Brown and started his own internet company out of his apartment. Then two years ago, his parents had called and said they were moving to Florida, and did he want the house? Hell, yeah.

      Please call me Veronica.

      He grinned. Here’s a piece of your mail.

      Gosh, I really think it’s time for our mailman to retire. She glanced down at the inconsequential letter, then met his gaze. I’m glad you’re here, Chet. Could help me with something?

      Of course. He’d helped her with several things over the past few years—mowing the lawn occasionally, helping move furniture, cutting up a dead tree limb.
