About this audiobook
USA Today bestselling author, Ella Fields, delivers a heart-wrenching tale of impossible yet unstoppable love in this all-new standalone enemies to lovers fantasy romance.
The king of wolves was more beast than man, more tyrant than king, and so much more than he seemed.
Raised to avenge his murdered parents, he’d been trained and conditioned until nothing but violence and hatred lined the walls of his dead heart.
For nearly four years, I’d done all I could to help my kingdom as we faced the wolf king’s unconquerable evil—hardly anything at all.
As the only heir to the Gracewood line, I’d been relegated to menial tasks that would keep me and my secrets safe.
A chance to do more than fret behind our castle walls arrived when I breached them after overhearing my parents’ plans for my future. Fleeing, I unknowingly raced into a fate we’d all desperately hoped to avoid.
By the time I saw him coming, it was far too late. For my family. For my kingdom.
For my heart.
Before I could staunch the bleeding, the king had me under his giant paw, and one wrong move after another caused those razor-sharp claws to sink deeper and deeper beneath my bruised skin.
I might have been trapped, naïve, and furious, but I still had a kingdom to save—and a plan.
Yet when we collided, the bloodshed, the fear, his atrocities... all of it dissolved like stardust upon the night sea.
The stars had mapped out our destiny, but it didn’t matter what they or my heart wanted.
I refused to see the enigmatic male, the heartless lost boy with a soul beneath the flesh of a monster.
The savage king who’d destroyed everything I loved would fall—even if my heart fell with him.

What our readers think
Readers find this title to have a great story and enjoyable characters, but many are disappointed with the male narrator in the audiobook version. They feel that his voice doesn't match the characters and is distracting. However, despite this issue, readers still appreciate the book and recommend reading it instead of listening to the audio. Overall, the story is praised for its fantasy elements and enemies-to-lovers plot.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5It's a really good villian to love story. I enjoyed the storyline, it was a little different from the usual. The only thing negative I'd say is I feel the male voice should of been younger. The male voice is nice but for this part he sounds too old
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Story was good. The spice wasn’t my taste, didn’t feel like it matched the story. The male narrator did not match the MMC.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I agree, I wish the female narrator could’ve done his point of view chapters, but the story was great!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The story is great, the male voice actor not so much.
I about threw my earbuds across the room when his voice first came on. But u decided to push through it and try to invision my version of the king, and what he should be, not what the old British voice tried to force me to see.
It worked and I enjoyed the book.
If you can move past it, it's worth a listen - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I didn't mind the male accent at all! I thought it was a nice distinction. Good spice! Good story line!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The reading was excellent, and although I was surprised to hear the second narrator I didn’t find them as unappealing as some of the other reviewers and I actually really enjoyed having the perspective of what is meant to be a savage character in such a gruff voice. Both actors did an exceptional job of doing voices and even adding coughs and sighs to the dialogue. I actually started listening to this on Spotify but when I used up my allotted hours I decided to get a trial of Everand so I could finish the book. The story itself was enjoyable, I can’t often find enemies to lovers stories and I think the magical destiny stuff really helped to explain away what would have otherwise been a bit of a red flag in other stories. 4/5 purely because i think 5/5 is reserved for a book that would change the world. This was a really good story and I really liked it.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I agree with most of the comments, that the male voice took away from the audio, but not that it took away from the story. If you can get past the voice (Jason Statham with a sprinkling of David Attenbrought) it’s a great book!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Loved the story, heart broke a few times throughout, and appreciated the growth the MCs made. Like someone else mentioned, the male voice actor didn’t match with the tone of the book. I blame whoever was directing though.
Overall, very happy with this read! - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Great book! Great story and Great plot! Sub par male narrator. He sounded like an old british male instead of a cool bada$$ king! I wish they would have used the female for the whole book. I LOVE the redemption arc. Steamy too!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Better than expected! I listened to the entire thing without getting bored - while in one of the most apathetic moods iv ever experienced! Solid entertaining fantasy romance. Not very kinky but not vanilla fades to black either.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The book was really good. The storyline is good. The male narrator is not good. Painful to listen too
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Wtf?! How did Jeeves get cast as the MC? That was the wildest narrator transition I've ever experienced. I thought it was going to be one of those intros where the old, uppy, butler like character sets the scene before the MC starts to narrate. But then, no, it was our guy. I absolutely can not finish this. Ill be finishing with the ebook. Good for the first 11ish chapters, though!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The book is great. The female narrator is very good. But the male narrator is the worst! How annoying! Sounds like a drunkard. Very off-putting.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The male narrator is not that bad. A ton of reviews say his voice is a deal breaker, but it's not that bad. Not great by any means, but come on people. The story itself was pretty good. Less trite than most.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Book is GREAT
but when I saw the reviews for the male actor’s voice being very strange for the role, I thought ‘oh it can’t be that bad…’
Ohhhh I was wrong.
WHY IS THAT THE VOICE FOR HIM???
I feel like I’m listening to a national geographic special. It’s so off putting and absolutely NOTHING like what the female actor does for him. I physically cringed. So….fair warning?1 person found this helpful
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5The story is great but the male voice is terrible . Doesn’t fit a young character at all. Sounds like a 60 year old man. I got the physical book instead. Can’t listen to this ?

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5The book is great, the male voice is horrid. I can’t finish it until I get ahold of the ebook. Good news is that you have until chapter 12 before they hit you with that.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I don't know how the male narrator was allowed to be in this. literally skipped every chapter with his POV. it should be scrubbed and republished with a new narrator that doesnt cause me to need my antiemetic when I hear his voice.

- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5I’ve read this book before a long time ago and liked it. However, the male narrators voice ruined the audio version for me. He actually has a wonderful reading voice, it just didn’t match the character in this story at all. His sounds old with an English accent while the character forming in my head for the Blood King was young and menacing. It bothered me so much I couldn’t finish it. I will say, the story is worth reading. I just suggest getting the written version instead of the audio.

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5I wish I had checked the reviews before starting this - i was really getting into the book when the male narrators part started, and then I just couldn't bring myself to continue. He sounded way older than how I had visualised the character and I couldn't continue.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The book itself would be 5 stars for me but the male voice actor didn’t fit great for me. A fab enemies to lovers book filled with great fantasy vibes.

- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Why on earth was this male narrator chosen ? It really ruined the entire thing for me

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The savage and the swan started out interesting but once the male voice was added into the story it didn't do it for me.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This book gave me ACOTAR vibes with the the swan princess and rumpelstiltskin mixed in. I really enjoyed it I just wasn’t a fan of the males voice reading. It just wasn’t what I was expecting and threw me off.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5The male narrator is cringey. Way too old for the character he’s supposed to be and it detracts from the story at times.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Loved the book itself but the male actors voice was terrible! The narrator sounded like he was 60 and just horrible voice and accent that didn’t go with the male character in the book!

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5I feel like while the descriptions for the surroundings were good, it lacked huge parts of the plot. I feel like the FMC was just naive and I just couldn’t feel sympathy for her.

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5if i didn't listen to the audiobook version i feel like i would have liked this book much more but the difference from the female and male narrator was so drastic that it felt like it wasn't a part of the same book. the female narrator was really great and it fit the book very well but the male narrator had a completely different accent and very exaggerated narration that in my opinion did not fit or compliment the other narrator or the book at all. it made the book sound like a children's book..
would definitely have given the book another couple of stars if it wasn't for the messy narration
over all the story reminded me of the cruel prince and was really good. but i think this book really needs to redo the narration2 people found this helpful
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5I had to DNF as the make voice was too old, not at all like someone in their 30s, over exaggerated and did not fit the story. It's a shame as the story was actually good but I found him really jarring

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I’m just going to have to read this instead of listening- as many others have pointed out- the male narrator … not a fit for this at all, and just cringe inducing.
