About this audiobook
The New York Times and Washington Post bestselling serial-killer thriller that will leave you wondering, is the past really in the past?
Three Chicago women have been found strangled, embalmed, and posed as if still alive. Doubting the findings of the local PD’s profiler, The FBI calls on forensic psychologist Zoe Bentley to investigate.
Zoe quickly gets off on the wrong foot with her new partner, Special Agent Tatum Gray. Zoe’s a hunter, intense and focused; Tatum’s a smug maverick with little respect for the rules. Together, they must descend into a serial killer’s psyche and untangle his twisted fantasies, or more women will die. But when the contents of three inconspicuous envelopes reveal a chilling connection to gruesome murders from Zoe’s childhood, suddenly the hunter becomes the hunted.

Mike Omer has been a journalist, a game developer, and the CEO of Loadingames, but he can currently be found penning his next thriller. Omer loves to write about two things: real people who could be the perpetrators or victims of crimes—and funny stuff. He mixes these two loves quite passionately in his suspenseful and often macabre mysteries. Omer is married to a woman who diligently forces him to live his dream, and he is a father to an angel, a pixie, and a gremlin. He has a voracious hound that wags his tail quite menacingly at anyone who dares approach his home. Learn more by emailing him at http://[email protected].

What our readers think
Readers find this title to be highly entertaining and suspenseful. The shifting points of view and plot twists keep readers engaged. The narration in the audio version is excellent, although some accents are not well done. The characters are well-developed and the wit and humor add to the enjoyment. The crime scenes are gruesome but bearable. Overall, readers are excited for the next book in the series and recommend giving it a listen.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5A solid 3.5 star read!
A forensic psychologist teams up with an FBI special agent (they have great working chemistry, will a romance develop?) to track down the Strangling Undertaker in A KILLER’S MIND. Gruesome and chilling the perpetrator strangles and embalms his victims then poses them.
Told in shifting points of view from Zoe and Tatum this story toggles between 1997 and 2016. I’m not a huge fan of flashbacks as I find them distracting but in this case it worked revealing a significant plot twist.
Nothing groundbreaking here as I found the plot typical for this genre but still highly entertaining and kept me tuned in. I’m definitely in for this series!
Note: I listened to this one on audio – some of the narration was tough to take in the form of bad accents (think lousy New York accent). I think I would have preferred reading this one and will do so moving forward with this series.1 person found this helpful
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I liked the book, but I really want someone to tell the narrator how to pronounce Huron.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Mike Omer is definitely on my favourite author list! Fast paced, really good storyline, nothing is far fetched and Zoe's profiling makes total sense! Keeps you on edge and wanting to know more. Narrator Brittany Pressley is definitely a bonus plus to the story! I've also listened to other books by Brittany and she's absolutely perfect! including her interpretation of male voices.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This had me hooked! I'm pretty picky and this genre is my main read... I LOVED it
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Well writen a work and listen to audio books, work alone most of the time. The book kept me hanging on and the reader did an excellent job.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5It was great. Very suspenseful and I’m ready for the next book. I’m pumped!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Even though it’s about a murderer Love the wit and humour. Keep me listening. They way people where described and things they did made each have there personality, as I’m sure you can imagine and possibly know people with similar personalities
Great listen to can wait till next one. Think series will be good - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Great book and excellent narrators. The ending left you waiting on the next installment ?
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The story was interesting and I like the setup for the series, so will definitely listen to the next one. The crime is rather gruesome but bearable. Only thing that wasn’t ideal was the narrator’s attempt at a Massachusetts accent for the main character. It was distracting and didn’t add to the listening experience at all.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I liked it a lot. The beginning I wasnt too crazy about but it redeemed. Also the chapters cut off at the end for the longest while. I hope theres a second book. HUGE cliffhanger.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I really liked the story that the book offered... it was well put together and a huge amount of research was put into it, plus the addition of snippets of Zoe's background into the story didn't disrupt the flow of it, on the contrary it helped to understand Zoe' nature and mind and understand why at times she felt frustrating to the reader. on the other hand having Tatum mixed in with zoe it balances the the story and it didn't make it boring as well as help open her up to us.... all in all am looking forward to the next book in the series.
