Systems and Simulation Design

International Journal of Modeling, Simulation and Applications invites original papers in the research areas of modeling and simulations of various aspects of devices, analysis and implementation in digital and analog circuit applications. Prediction and optimization through modelling forms the basis of engineering design. A brief communication for rapid publication of short articles announcing significant and original results are also invited.

Power instability in Nigeria caused by overbearing demand of power by consumers and lack of proper maintenance of the power system devices among others has brought about the need for alternative power sources such as generators, solar, typical inverters and other alternative supplies which requires one form of switching or the other to achieve phase selection during power failure. This paper gives a design analysis of an automatic phase selector linking available power supplies, that is; switching between a three-phase public utility supply, as a result of total power outage in the public supply to an alternative secondary supply (in this case a Generator and an Inverter system) and back when power is restored. The design adopts the use of a microcontroller-based system interconnected with other hardware components for proper isolation, switching and visualization of switching conditions. The system design is divided into two major part: the hardware which consists of the power supply, sensing circuit, controller or control logic circuit, display and the power electronics switching unit and the software instruction code on the microcontroller unit. The design analysis was first carried out accompanied with computer simulation on a software tool (Proteus 8 Professional, version 8.4) to carry out performance evaluation of the sub-circuits, thereafter, a practical implementation of the design was carried out and tested with the utility power supply using five (5) switches, three of which represents the three-phase primary supply and the other two represents the secondary supply.

Recently high performance and low power consumption custom memory design system is the crucial innovation for wireless embedded devices. In this paper we have implemented MIPS based memory architectural design and analyze its simulation efficiency. Low power and high performance embedded devices such as mobile, wifi devices implemented with MIPS architecture design that reduces the access time and increases the system performance. Existing CAM cell design also reduces the access time as in efficient manner. We have analyzed CAM architecture design with xup-5 FPGA environments and analyze CAM cell efficiency. MIPS RF memory has implemented for various high performances ASIP design architecture and embedded devices.

Creativity in teaching and the competence of students are key terms in recent debates on higher education. The proposed paper discusses a project-oriented seminar in International Relations. The goal was to develop a simulation in the course of the seminar dealing with the ‘War on Drugs’ on the border between Mexico and the United States. The seminar, suggested by students, was added to the regular curriculum. The students have been involved in planning and teaching the seminar over months. The final result of the course, a role play-like simulation, was developed together with the attending students of the seminar and is now available to the public.
The paper analyses two key dimensions of the seminar: On the one hand, the evaluation and teach-ing experiences from the seminar are presented. The organizational framework of the project-oriented course is proposed as a possibility to include students in a participatory and productive way of teaching and learning. On the other hand the paper looks at prospects for vertical team-teaching. Vertical team-teaching, understood as the inclusion of students not only in conceptual, but also in practical tasks, can be reflected in terms of the competence-dimensions. In addition to a certain type of scientific knowledge, team-teaching addresses the development of abilities like self-organization and cooperative working. The explication of tacit experiences from teaching by the proficient lecturer and the reflection on role-taking issues by the students address further competences that are com-monly debated in the process of modernizing higher education.
Student engagement and participation does not come without ambivalences. The paper ends with an overview and reflection of team-teaching experiences between students and lecturers from different seminars and thus offers points of reference for the discussion on the role students can take in shap-ing the curricula of teaching IR.
