It has long been known to creative people that the unconscious mind plays a crucial role in all creative thought. While creativity in art, music and dance can often function with very little help from verbal left-brain processes, most creative work requires balanced, healthy cooperation between intuition and logical thought. This paper will examine why in most intellectual fields, the most wonderful, creative breakthroughs are the result of intuition. Intuition manifests itself in the evaluation of similarity when decision borders are too complex to be reduced to logical rules. It is also reflected in heuristic reasoning based on partial observations, where network activity selects only those paths that may lead to the right solution, excluding all bad moves (Duch, 2007: 1). The research question is important, equally as are advanced, scientific studies on intuition, because intuition leads to innovation. Intuition is the muse, the spark, the beginning without which many modern, scientific inventions would not be possible. Could intuition shed some light on the understanding of modern science explaining many of its unknowns? Or, are the two disciplines completely independent? Intuition originates in right-brain thinking, while logic is a product of the left brain. Intuition is useless, however, until it can be verified and described verbally and logically. Logic and language are at the basis of modern progress because they make it possible for one person to communicate her or his insights to another person. Knowledge is thus built upon knowledge, from the successive thinking of previous generations of reflective explorers, researchers and thinkers. In this essay, the author will elaborate on the phenomenon of intuition, hopefully leading to a more holistic understanding of the unconscious mind by bringing important elements involved in the process of intuition and science together. The great power of science is its ability through objective laws to reveal to us truth that we did not anticipate. In this role, it continues to be invaluable, and one of the greatest of human creations. Science often provides elucidation as we are bound to grope for a time as we grapple with problems unprecedented in human history. And wisdom is the child of experience which is a measure of truth. "In the years since man unlocked the power stored with the atom, the world has made progress, halting but effective, towards bringing that power under human control." (Kennedy, 1963: 22). The spirit of the times brings another challenge that must be overcome and that becomes humanity's salvation. In the Twenty-First Century, as humanity has learned to master the destructive potentialities of modern science civilisation moves toward a new era in which science can shed more light on the still unresolved novel, global challenges to fulfil its creative promise. But can science explain everything that could be only known at the intuitive level? Can Science shed some light onto some the miracles in the world? It is sometimes helpful to differentiate between the God of Miracles and the God of Order. When scientists use the word God, they usually mean the God of Order. The God of Miracles wonderfully intervenes in our affairs, performs magnificent miracles, destroys wicked cities, smites enemy armies, drowns the Pharaoh's troops (plus other wicked civilisations that do not follow sustainable strategies) and finally avenges the pure and noble (Kaku, 1995); as He is the only one who created the universe and it is at His command. All creation uses its power to punish unrighteous people or civilisations, but it becomes mild and kind to those who put their trust in God. This is not to say that miracles cannot happen, only that they are outside of the realm of explanation of what is commonly called science. Paradoxically, the world of science cannot explain some of the unknowns at the level of sub-consciousness, sense, supernatural or sacral. For example, in the word of God, light and darkness are contrasted several times as are those who follow each (Crawley, 1980: 562). It is contrast rather than comparison because there is no likeness of the two. One is opposed to the other, and one produces positive energy the other negative. One clear thing is that "the person who loves truth hates darkness. "Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way" (Psalm 119:104); and the one who loves darkness hates light, "For everyone that doeth evil hateth the light..." (John 3:20). Jesus had somewhat to say about this throughout His earthly ministry. He made it very plain regarding those who loved the truth (or light), as well as those who loved error (or darkness) when He said, "And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil (Crawley, 1980: 562). For everyone that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God" (John 3:19-21). From this, we can plainly see why some love darkness and refuse to come to the light and why some love truth. The person who loves the truth above all else, and wants nothing else, cometh to the light, for he has nothing to fear. For even if he is wrong, he needs, and wants, to know it; whereas when he is right everyone needs to know it. Thus, he cometh to the light, and does so continually that he continue to be right (Crawley, 1980: 562). This paper argues that we can subconsciously choose light and good deeds at the same time becoming more skilled and grittier. Grit is the tenacious pursuit of a dominant superordinate goal despite setbacks. According to Duckworth and Gross (2014: 2), "Research on grit is still in its infancy, and much remains to be discovered about its underlying psychological mechanisms." These researchers have shown that "Highly effortful, focused practice is a necessary means to improving in skill" and shedding more light on important psychological concepts such as increased perseverance, passion and determination. Studies confirm that grittier competitors accumulate more hours of deliberate practice over the course of years, which in turn fully mediates the effect of grit on final ranking (Duckworth, Kirby, Tsukayama, Berstein, & Ericsson, 2011). Related research has identified harmonious passion (i.e., autonomous internalisation of a passionate activity into one’s identity) as a predictor of deliberate practice and, in turn, performance (Vallerand et al., 2014). Many other studies of expert performers in diverse domains have found that thousands of hours of extremely effortful deliberate practice are prerequisite for achieving world-class levels of skill (Ericsson & Charness, 1994). If, as Woody Allen has suggested, showing up and being engaged is crucial to success in any endeavour (as quoted in Safire, 1989), and if highly effortful, focused practice is a necessary means to improving in skill, then it may be that grit predicts high achievement by inclining individuals to both show up and work very hard, continuously, toward a highly valued goal for years and even decades" simultaneously overcoming obstacles and excelling in their practice. To be gritty means wisely and holistically combing the whole body resources: subconsciousness and consciousness for the realisation of the chosen goal without burn out but constantly recharging and regenerating. This has much to do with the power of both self-control and volition. Therefore, subconscious could be working in balance with consciousness. Throughout all nature, we can find the law of action and reaction, of rest and motion so balance is an optimal state. When the two are in balance, then there will be harmony, equilibrium and extra energy flow. The novel solution that this paper introduces is that intuition allows seeing things differently by making a picture of reality in our minds ​while acting as a powerful catalyst, a powerhouse of our imagination while dissolving many complex puzzles and perplexing problems existing in contemporary science. It follows that both intuition and science could work in tandem.

The purpose of this paper is to discuss whether the concept and activity of flow is an idea whose time has come in the 21st Century. Regardless of passing time, some ideas are so remarkably brilliant and so extraordinarily catchy that they define the prevailing trends of the given era. We say that somebody is following 'the spirit of the times' when he or she is passionately working on the concept that is very relevant to the advancement of progress at a given time. Flow is a state of optimal experience characterised by total absorption in the task at hand. It allows the merging of action and awareness thanks to which individuals can realise their full potential. Flow happens when students are so engrossed in their work that they effectively tune out any outside distractions. They often visualise their final piece of art, writing or music and keep working hard long hours apparently sustaining deep levels of concentration, enthusiasm and positive energy for extended periods of time. This paper discusses flow in education as a state of mind that everyone can reach thanks to meditation. To perceive anything, first we must look and listen, be receptive and open-minded. Through intense focus we can tap into the soul's infinite powers. The goal of meditation is to focus your mind, to overcome yourself so that to eventually reach a higher level of awareness and inner calmness. Since mind may be disturbed or troubled by mood, the state of mental flow needs employing the principle of cultivation so that we are not in a mood of neediness. "When we foster an expansive mood, it should be magnanimous and firm, able to expand beyond myriad of things, undaunted by anything." (Cleary, 2009: 39). Because the mind depends on the mood, when the mood is calm your mind is calm as well. Cultivating means assessing the excess and insufficiencies in the natural disposition, reducing the excessive and developing the insufficient while balancing action and response amid the state of calmness generated by meditation. Meditation is an ancient practice, but scientists are still discovering all of its benefits. Neurologists have found that regular meditation changes our brains in ways that can help us to control emotions, enhance concentration, decrease stress, and even become more connected to those around you. Meditation can take some kind of noble ideal goal, but we must remember that it is a journey. Meditation is not a goal that we can mechanically complete. It is more spontaneous, it is flowing from the heart, therefore viewing meditation just as a tool to achieve a certain goal would drain ourselves and lead to selfishness. As Amir Mourad (2015) noticed, ''the perception of the mind must open to the dimension that is beyond the limits of the ego.'' Instead, focusing on the process and experience of meditation itself, and eliminating the desires and attachments that distract us in day-to-day life from the meditative practice are more fulfilling. According to Krishnamurti, "Meditation is freedom from thought and movement in the ecstasy of truth. Meditation is explosion of intelligence." As Shinzen Young (2016) noticed, meditation can sharpen our thinking, ''Breaking the compulsion to think simply means that the thinking process is no longer scattered by distracting forces. So when you turn your mind to some topic, you can penetrate that topic with great clarity and vigor. To draw a metaphor from the physical world, when thinking is no longer at the mercy of scattering forces, it becomes like a penetrating beam of coherent laser light.'' Problem-solving, rational thinking and creativity spontaneously increase. This process could be utilised for achieving many jumps in solving important challenges or reaching knowledge that can shed light on previously unsolved conundrums. This process of increased concentration on the topic can be intensified when we are silent, when we listen and eliminate distractions. Without some inner detachment there is no inner peace. Detachment means letting go of negative, disturbing and unnecessary thoughts, emotions and habits. A good meditator needs to learn not to be disturbed easily by what people say or do, and not to take things too personally. He may be accused of being indifferent and uncaring. It might seem a paradox, but he can be compassionate, helpful and full of love, and at the same time, display inner detachment. Meditation is a mental attitude which leads to common sense, better judgement, more understanding and more inner peace. Therefore, the state of stillness or ''the mind like water'' effect generated by meditative flow could lead to higher levels of intelligence. Thereby generating new bursts of creativity resulting in positive inflow of inventive spirit. According to Bruce Lee, Dao or the spontaneity of the Universe or truth can only be comprehended by a mind that is free from distraction. A new light can inspire us, and we can generate an extra motivation enabling us to realise our hopes and make all our dreams come true. Nothing is more honourable than enlightenment, nothing is more beautiful than virtue. A person who has a growth mindset believes they can develop skills and strengths through continuous effort, and grow with each life experience. All we need to do is to decide how to make our lives grander, greater, richer, and nobler than ever before. Within our subconscious minds there are depths that are infinite. The infinite intelligence available throughout cosmos can reveal previously unknown knowledge. We can receive new thoughts and novel ideas enabling us to bring forth pioneering inventions, enable original discoveries, or write books and plays continuing in the process of improvement. The talent that is hidden within each of us and our subconscious minds can be compared to a comet striking briefly across the sky, shining brightly and being captured only by the flash of inspiration, brilliance and perhaps modern telescopes with the latest, innovative technology. Furthermore, the same infinite intelligence can impart to us wonderful kinds of knowledge of an original nature. The first step to infinitely prolonging the flow cycle to reach the next level of enlightenment is our understanding that there is a different path. It is possible, so the source of energy must be flowing from the Cosmos, for example, from the stars since the there is no limit to how fast the universe can expand. Infinity is a key concept since it brings to life new forms, new types, and patterns hitherto, unknown on earth and more importantly it is holding promise of greater changes yet to materialise. These changes can come to fruition when our brains are open and responsive. Indeed, in the human brain marked by 'unthinkable complexity' the possibilities of generating new ideas and new mental patterns are infinite. Nothing is real that is not eternal so infinity has to originate with cosmic, energetic sources such as stars. When we absorb and channel precious energy flowing from the Universe while trying to come up with novel ideas and experimenting with our intuition we also build up the ​spirit. Spiritual knowledge and understanding is achieved through intuitive meditation. Spirit helps to tune with the defining idea of our era shining a new light on a possible solution to a perplexing problem. Thus, a simple belief enabled by a leap of faith advances human progress on the planet thereby helping to find solutions to the prevailing problems in the given era. Remember one lesson throughout this process, a mind focusing on the goal might become clouded, if we focus too much on hitting the target then we might miss it because seeking perfection may dominate and then the mind becomes artificial. (Mourad, 2012). A skilled meditator is not interested in the goal, his only concern is the present moment and thanks to that he finds much more natural energy. Just as water takes the shape of the vessel it flows through, the life principle flows through us according to the nature of our thoughts. Some people can access altered states of mind, because they learned how to fully utilize the power of their brains, but others dismiss them as being spiritual. The fact of the matter is that human beings are not taught how to tap into altered states of awareness, to make an impact on the world. The healing energy can be flowing through us as: harmony, health, peace, joy, moderation and abundance. We can think of it as a living intelligence, a cosmic energy or a lovely companion on the way. If we firmly believe it is continually flowing through us vivifying, inspiring, prospering us it will do so. It will respond exactly this way. The mind must always be in the state of 'flowing.' It is done unto you as you believe. The undiscovered element is how to multiply every sprinkle of ingenuity by following our guiding light without draining ourselves, but naturally and spontaneously sustaining optimal levels of achievement into infinity.

An introductory essay to the 3-volume work 'The Philosophy of the Unconscious' ('Die Philosophie des Unbewusstseins') of Eduard von Hartmann. Edouard d'Araille takes a brief survey of von Hartmann's life and thought, in particular the "philosophy of the unconscious" which would make von Hartmann a household name both in Germany and abroad (including in England). This ambitious work extends upon the philosophy of Arthur Schopenhauer's system (set forth in most detailed fashion within 'The World as Will and Representation') whilst also being inspired by the triad of Post-Kantians F.W.J. von Schelling, J.G. Fichte and G.W.F. Hegel. Hartmann transforms Schopenhauer's concept of the 'Will' into his own, related idea, of the 'Unconscious', forming an interesting bridge between the ideas of one strand German Idealism and Sigmund Freud's psychology of the Sub-Conscious. This essay only provides a brief sketch of von Hartmann's philosophy, but enough so as to appreciate its importance in the evolution of thought. The essay also touches upon the pessimism which was at the heart of von Hartmann's philosophy, which he shared above all with Schopenhauer himself. The essay is followed by a four page Bibliography of von Hartmann's major work (including translations) and reference is also made to some books and article written about him.

Once the positivistic/escapist interpretation that human consciousness is epiphenomenal, i.e., accidental, is dismissed there are two possible approaches to the scientific study of consciousness. Bottom-up consciousness, from the individual organism or being to the universe, and Consciousness from the top-down, from the universe to the individual. These two approaches mark the outer boundaries of the present scientific search for a theoretical model of consciousness, even though Consciousness goes beyond science and moves into the realm of metaphysics. In any case, everything in between these two approaches is seriously muddled and clouded with speculations and metatheories that cannot be possible, which is common to the period preceding a scientific revolution. Some of those speculations and metatheories sound rather esoteric and even spiritual, which allows them to appeal to many people, but they would normally be considered non-scientific by definition if they were expressed for anything other than consciousness, which in itself presents a total mystery to science and the scientists who are willing to attempt to explain consciousness. On the other hand, what little concrete information science has at its disposal about consciousness does seem to match ideas in eastern mystical thought and in some cases earlier western ideas in Natural Philosophy that have been rejected by science, which further muddles the scientific quest for understanding consciousness. These ideas and concepts fit the qualitative aspects of mind that science normally associates with consciousness even better as well as the direct characteristics of consciousness, at least to the extent that such characteristics are known. Science needs to find a balance between them so it can maximize the effect of the next scientific revolution as well as the corresponding evolutionary leap in consciousness that is coming, but physics must simultaneously develop a working unified field theory to better define the universe in which consciousness of any kind, shape or form can and has developed.

Warum habe ich diesem Buch (in der Originalausgabe) den Titel "The Understanding of the Brain" gegeben? Ich erhebe natürlich keinen Anspruch auf ein endgültiges und vollständiges Verstehen. Dies liegt in unabsehbarer Zukunft und mag sogar paradox sein - ein Gehirn, das ein Gehirn vollständig versteht.

Notwendigerweise wird diese persönliche Mitteilung, was ihre Ausführung und die Festlegung des Schwerpunktes anbelangt, voreingenommen sein. Ich versuche hier ein Buch zu schreiben, das kurzerhand durchgelesen werden kann und das eine Vorstellung von vielen Aspekten der Hirnforschung geben wird, von denen ich glaube, dass sie einige der für das weiter vordringende Unternehmen der Hirnforschung und auch für die begrifflichen Entwicklungen in den verwandten Disziplinen Psychologie und Philosophie grundlegende Ideen bietet. Ich habe aber versucht, einen Text zu verfassen, der so einfach zu lesen ist, dass er zum Beispiel für einen Oberschüler fassbar sein sollte.

Dieses Buch ist nicht als Lehrbuch oder Nachschlagewerk zu betrachten. Eher ist es eine persönliche Mitteilung, in der ich über diejenigen Aspekte des Gehirns schreibe, die für mich von besonderem Interesse sind und von denen ich denke, dass sie wesentlich für jegliches Verständnis dafür sind, wie das Gehirn seine wundervollen und vielfältigen Funktionen ausführen kann.

Ich glaube, dass wir älteren Wissenschaftler verpflichtet sind, unsere wissenschaftlichen Ideen an eine so breite Zuhörerschaft wie irgend möglich weiterzugeben.

Ich glaube, dass es wichtig ist, unseren Bericht über das Gehirn so aufzubauen, dass er sich auf das menschliche Gehirn im vollen Umfang seiner Leistung bezieht.

Alle Techniken unser Un(ter)bewußtsein zu kontaktieren beruhen auf vielfältigen Methoden zur Verlangsamung unserer persönlichen Zeit. Eine der Techniken ist Medition. Ein weiterer Weg durch die Verlangsamung unserer persönlichen Zeit tritt bei der Liebe auf. Liebe ist der Ausweg aus der Existenz, aus der Tätigkeit, z.B. eine Rückkehr zu der außerzeitlichen Nicht-Manifestation die Gott ist.
