Strategic Management of Innovation

Bu çalışma, çeşitli makaleler, kitaplar, ders notları, röportajlar ve daha önce incelenmiş örneklerden yola çıkılarak hazırlandı. Çalışma bu alandaki uygulamalara destek olmayı amaçlayan bir kaynak ortaya koymayı hedefledi. Çalışmada, inovasyon, strateji, yönetim kavramlarının köken ve açılımları detaylı olarak incelendi. İnovasyon türleri arasında stratejik inovasyonun ayırt edici özellikleri ortaya koyuldu. Organizasyon kavramı çerçevesinde, stratejik inovasyonun konumlandırılmasıyla birlikte organizasyonda yer aldığı süreçler ve bu süreçlerin oluşturacağı çıktılara olan etkileri incelendi. Çalışmada, düzen bozucu inovasyon olarak tabir edilen stratejik inovasyonun, organizasyonun örgütsel süreçleri, finansal yapısı, pazarlama ve üretim süreçleri bağlamında yarattığı değişimin, sonuç odaklı olumlu veya olumsuz etkileri incelendi. Bu çalışma ile, objektif bir yaklaşımla, teori ve uygulama temelinde hazırlanan röportaj soruları organizasyonların çeşitli kademelerinde çalışan saha aktörlerine yöneltildi. Gelen yanıtlar üzerinden mevcut durum analiz edildi. Yapılan röportajlar sonucunda ulaşılan ortak tahayyül ile çalışma pekiştirilerek, stratejik inovasyonun organizasyon başarısına dair saha uygulamaları temelli çıktılarına ulaşıldı. Sonuç olarak, stratejik inovasyonun organizasyon süreçlerine olumlu etki ettiği, yaşanabilecek bazı olumsuzluklara rağmen, çoğunlukla yaratılan yeni ürün ya da hizmet ile organizasyonun yetkinlik ve kapasite geliştirmesini sağladığı sonucu elde edildi.

Deteriorating environmental health is compelling industries, including modular office furniture industry, which is one of the fastest growing industries in India, to adopt green practices. Despite the fact that office furniture does not have a direct bearing on the green rating of an office, modular office furniture industry is fast getting on the bandwagon of promoting their products as ‘green’. However, this may not be sufficient. From the perspective of sustainable development, it is essential to align even the traditionally skilled human resources and manpower with the modern technology for the overall benefit of all. This paper tries to explore whether it is possible for modular office furniture industry to adopt innovative green marketing practices for a complete sustainable development through cooperation.
Modular office furniture organizations in India have literally nullified the significance of the friendly neighborhood carpenters. Modular office furniture are usually manufactured in factories at a very fast pace. Moreover, their installation is neither intricate nor time-consuming. The areas where these organizations supply office furniture, the need for the friendly neighborhood carpenters has been completely wiped off. However, whenever customized area furniture requirements arise, these carpenters are called upon to fulfill the needs, but they work as a part of the architect’s team.

A majority of organizations in modular office furniture industry have to put up with the paucity of well-qualified installers. The organizations, which have competent installation team on their company roll, have to bear heavy expenditure, which is pre-requisite for their upkeep. Another issue of concern is excessive competitions from new organizations. The new competitors bring in new ideas at a lesser price and thereby repeatedly shake the tables. Major threat is from low-priced furniture from China. The need of the hour, at this point of time, is new innovative solutions that have higher level of sustenance.

This paper tries to explore the relevance, application and consequence of innovative techniques used by manufacturers of modular ceiling tile like Armstrong, which have become a benchmark for the industry. Armstrong provided training to private installers and masons, who are their traditional competitors, in their specially designed flooring and ceiling solutions. In the due course of time, these trained personnel became the company’s biggest strength in terms of installations agents and marketing mouthpieces.

Technology analysis focuses on technology that is a complex system formed by different elements given by incremental and radical innovations to satisfy needs, achieve goals and/or solve problems of users to take advantage of important opportunities or to cope with consequential environmental threats. This study suggests a methods of inquiry, called multiple working hypotheses (MWHs), for technology analysis that consider the development, prior to research, of different hypotheses concerning the origin and evolution of technology, which are likely due to several causes, not just one. The MWHs presented here are categorized in traditional hypotheses, such as demand for technology hypothesis, Induced-innovation hypothesis, learning by doing hypothesis, learning via diffusion hypothesis, specialization via scale hypothesis, disadvantage of beginning hypothesis, path-dependence hypothesis, competitive substitution hypothesis, predator-prey hypothesis, and modern hypotheses such as killer technology hypothesis, parasite technologies hypothesis. Scholars of technology studies should consider all suggested hypotheses for technology analysis, also considering the possibility that none of them are correct and that some new explanations may emerge in more and more complex and turbulent environment.

The article presents the conducted research and its results regarding correct construction of implementation procedures for Polish regional innovation strategies, prepared by regional self-governments in the period of 2003-2008. Its initial part discusses the accepted assumptions and key concepts. Next an exemplary valuation system was presented, i.e. the model of the above strategy implementation system. The main part of the article illustrates valuation results, as well as conclusions and recommendations related to establishing similar plans in the future
