Rice Farmers

The study investigated the major constraints faced by women farmers growing rice in Ekiti State, Nigeria. The study employed a survey research design, one hundred women rice farmers were randomly selected and information were obtained with the aid of well structured questionnaire. The frequency, percentage, t-test and regression analysis were used to analyze data obtained. The study revealed that, only 26% had negative productivity, 53% had positive productivity, few (31%) had a positive profit of above 100,000 Naira, others have a profit of between 1-100,000 Naira. Personal savings was the best source of finance or capital for women rice farmers. Lack of finance is one of the major challenges faced by women rice farmers. Other challenges include credit availability and accessibility, lack of mechanized/technological equipments, level of degradation, among others. Also, result showed that only government support as a source was negatively significant and affected women rice farmers’ productivity negatively. The study recommended that, women rice farmers should endeavour to undergo various developmental programmes to develop themselves so as to increase their competitive advantage in their locality and also in the local and global agricultural sector. In addition, governments and other policy makers should strategize plans and programmes that would contribute to women rice farmers, agriculture, community and national development.

This study attempts to understand the role of ICTs on adoption of climate change adaption options among the Nepalese rice farmers, using data from 773 households from seven districts—3 from Terai region and 4 from hilly region. Individual Farmer's Awareness Index was developed to categorize the respondent knowledge of climate change adaptation and Ordered Logit Model was used to examine the factors influencing their adaptation options in present of ICTs. The result revealed that 65% farmers perceived knowledge about temperature, rainfall and other relative information from various ICT devices that they pose. Farmers received such information mostly from Radio (71%), TV (69%) and mobile phone (62.5%) and argued these three devices are the most prominent, easy access and practical devices to receive such information. 86% farmers used such devices on the daily basis and 90% and more users opined that the information provided from such devices is in their own language and fully understandable. From ICT devices they pose, 71% of the farmers are receiving climate change information and 61% received agro-related information and the majority of them argued that such available information is very much informative and supportive of their resilience to climate change and use of available adaptation options. From the Farmers Awareness Index, this study found 19.8% farmers are high aware, 65.1% medium aware and 15.1% were less aware of the changing climate and its anomalies. Similarly, result from Ordered Logit Model shows that age (0.45***), gender (0.48**), market center (0.32*), bank access (0.54***), availability of subsidy (1.0***), agro-extension services (0.71**), access to TV (0.67***) and membership to a social network (3.20**) played a significant role in increasing

The study investigates sustainable agricultural development and grassroots information provision: an appraisal of information needs of Adani rice farmers in Enugu State of Nigeria. It catalyzes to achieve the sustainable development goals 1 and 2 as projected in 2030. The study adopted a descriptive survey design with a population of 500 rice farmers from the three villages in Adani. Sixty (60) rice farmers were randomly selected from each of the three villages summing up a sample size of 180 respondents. Questionnaire and interview were used for data collection. Data collected were analyzed using frequency count and percentage. The findings of the study revealed that 46.7% of the respondents have no formal education. Malaria is one of the commonest tropical diseases plaguing the African continent and the rural areas of the continent in particular. This study was carried out to examine the effect of malaria on the productivity of rice farmers in Southwest Nigeria. The data for this study were obtained from one hundred and fifty (150) rice farmers in Ogun State and Ekiti State by purposive and simple random sampling techniques. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Tobit regression and stochastic frontier regression model. The result of the analysis showed that more males (84%) were involved in rice production and about 72% of the farmers were susceptible to malaria. Average days of incapacitation due to malaria in the study area was found to be 10 days and the result of the Tobit regression also revealed that age, gender, income and years of formal education were significant. However, the mean technical efficiency of the farmers was also found to be 75 percent, indicating that about 25% have the potential to improve their output further if there is improvement in the health status and production environment of the farmers.

The focus of this study was risk management of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) in rice farmers in Ngrendeng Village, Ngawi, East Java in 2012 with analyze hazard and risk on activities and workplaces. This study was a semi-quantitative analitical descriptive with observational approach using Australian Standard/New Zealand Standard (AS/NZS) 4360:2004 about risk management. Analysis was made based on whole farming processes observed and information from village headman, a land and farm machines owner, and 5 farmers.
