The water quality, physico-chemical and the ecological state assessment of the water bodies of the transboundary Mesta River during the period 2009-2010 were discussed. The MDS analysis illustrated that similarities between species composition of the macrozoobenthos at the studied sites are based on the level of the anthropogenic impact rather than the differences between the main river and its tributaries. Comparison with the last published data (1999-2000) demonstrated processes of stabilization of the aquatic ecosystem as a result of improvement of the water quality and the ecological state of the studied river ecosystem. During the last 25 years, shifts in species composition, decreases in species richness and reorganization in the trophic structure of the benthic fauna were detected in the referent site Demyanitsa.

A comparison of the Irish Quality Rating System (Q-Scheme) and the Bulgarian version of the scheme was made for two different ecoregions. A total of 16 macroinvertebrate samples were taken from 11 rivers and their tributaries in Ireland and Bulgaria. Eight of the sites were situated on six rivers flowing into the Black Sea. Eight samples were taken from two main Irish rivers and their tributaries; one of them runs directly into the Atlantic Ocean and the second one into Lake Lough Leane in Killarney National Park. An adapted version of the Q-Scheme was introduced for bioassessment of rivers and has been officially used in the Bulgarian national monitoring system since 1998. Biotic index values and EQR scale have been developed and are standardised for Irish and Bulgarian national legislation. This paper presents a list of the aquatic insects collected from Urugua-i Provincial Park. This study aims to improve the knowledge of this protected area located in Misiones Province. One hundred and thirty-six species of aquatic insects in 75 genera, 26 families and seven orders were recorded. New records for the province and for Argentina are listed, and the records of new species are mentioned.

A taxonomic and biogeographic study of the Pyrenean Leuctridae is presented. Keys for males and females of 32 Leuctridae species are given. The male of Pachyleuctra bertrandi Aubert, 1952 is described completely for the first time ; P. ribauti Despax, 1929 is restored as a valid species ;

Two new species of the genus Leuctra that were previously confused with L. braueri Kempny, 1898 are described from the eastern Alps: L. muranyii sp. n. and L. juliettae sp. n. A comparative description of L. braueri is given. The composition and characters of the L. braueri species group are discussed.

A new species, Nemoura klapperichi, is described from Fukien province, Southern China. Only few Nemouridae were contained in Chinese stonefly material of the Museum Alexander Koenig in Bonn, FRG. These are several females and a single male, all .in very poor condition. Numerous Chinese Nemouridae have been described by F. Ch. Wu, but only types of those named in his last two papers (Wu, 1962, 1973) still exist. We have had an opportunity to check these in his collection in Peking. Our species is not identical with any of these. Our study revealed several important discrepancies between Wu's descriptions and the actual specimens. Therefore, the species of which no types are available are hard to interpret. From descriptions alone, it seems that the present species is also none of these and we therefore describe it here as new.

In this revision of the 25 French Protonemura, two new taxa are described : P. zhiltzovae sp. n. and P. ausonia padana ssp. n. Moreover, P. spinulosa (Navás 1921) is restored to the species level. Affinities, etymology, ecology and distribution are commented on for each species. Identification keys and drawings are given for males and females. Finally, Protonemura distributions within the main French mountainous massifs are discussed.

Este estudio se realizo con la finalidad de determinar la entomofauna acuatica asociada al Rio Santa Clara, en la Provincia de Veraguas. Se recolectaron los insectos entre los meses de febrero a agosto del 2000 cada dos semanas, en cada una de las cuatro estaciones. Se utilizaron diferentes metodos de captura de acuerdo al sustrato. Una red acuatica tipo D-Net, para realizar los barridos en el fondo y en la vegetacion marginal sumergida, pinzas entomologicas para desalojar los insectos de sus refugios en las rocas. Tambien nos ayudamos con una red de mano, para capturar los insectos nadadores y los que se encontraban sobre la pelicula de agua. La entomofauna asociada al Rio Santa Clara consiste en 54 generos agrupados en 27 familias que pertenecen a 6 ordenes. The perlid stonefly Brahmana flavomarginata Wu, originally described from China from the male adult, is described using reared male and female adults and nymphs from Vietnam. The male adult of B. flavomarginata is distinguished from its congeners by the blackish-brown body color and distinct head marking, hemitergal triangular chitin plates, and a median semicircular smooth subgenital plate (hammer) on the abdominal sternum IX. The female adult has a large and round subgenital plate which extends to the posterior margin of the abdominal sternum X. The nymph can be distinguished by the relatively small compound eyes and the body covered by many long stout setae and short golden brown hair-like setae. This species is known in southwestern China (Yunnan Province) and northern Vietnam

Two new species of perlid stoneflies, Acroneuria bachma n. sp. and A. magnifica n. sp., are described from tropical Vietnam. Descriptions of these species are given based on male and female adults, nymphs, and eggs. The adult of A. bachma is distinguished by the presence of a large dark brown marking in the interocellar area and by the absence of patches of sensilla basiconica on the 9th abdominal tergum; the nymph is distinguished by the presence of a narrow and complete M-line marking on head and by the absence of gills on paraprocts. The adult of A. magnifica is distinguished by presence of a distinct light-yellow M-line marking on head and patches of sensilla basiconica which are sparsely distributed on the 9th abdominal tergum; the nymph is distinguished by the presence of an incomplete M-line marking on head and gills on paraprocts. Line-drawings and macro-photographs of the diagnostic characters are provided. Adult and nymphal keys to Southeast Asian species of Acroneuria are also provided.

Vietnamese stonefly species of the genus Tyloperla Sivec and Stark are reviewed. As a result, two new species, Tyloperla catcat sp. nov. and T trui sp. nov., are described. Descriptions, diagnoses, distributions, material data, taxonomic remarks, and a male key to the Vietnamese species are provided.

A new and rare perlid stonefly, Togoperla thinhi n. sp., is described from male and female adults and egg specimens from tropical central Vietnam. The male adult of T. thinhi n. sp. can be distinguished from other congeners by the distinct head markings, bilobed processes on the posterior margin of the abdominal tergum V, and S-shaped aedeagus. The female adult has a long and tongue-shaped subgenital plate on the abdominal sternum VIII, which extends to the posterior margin of the abdominal sternum IX. A male key to the Vietnamese species of Togoperla is provided. The finding of this new species provides evidence of an extension of the geographical distribution of Togoperla to tropical mainland Southeast Asia.

Literaturauswertungen und Kartierungen zur Erstellung der Roten Liste der gefährdeten Köcherfliegen von Rheinland-Pfalz, führten zur Kenntnis von 12 weiteren Köcherfliegen-Arten für dieses deutsche Bundesland. Drei Arten wurden aus der Checkliste von 1998 gestrichen. Für das Saarland werden auf der Basis der bisherigen Publikationen 13 neue Arten, für die Bundesrepublik Deutschland wird über die neu erschienene Köcherfliegen-Fauna Deutschlands (Robert 2001) hinaus eine weitere neue Art gemeldet.

Literature research and field investigations during the last three years showed 12 further species of Trichoptera belonging to the fauna of the federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. Three species had to be struck off the 1998 checklist. Basing on known publications for the Saarland 13 new species are reported. The new Trichoptera Checklist of Germany (Robert 2001) mentions 313 species for the Federal Republic of Germany. One further Trichoptera species is announced.

Nine new peltoperlid species are described from Southeast Asia including five Cryptoperla Needham and four Peltoperlopsis Illies, and provisional keys for males of both genera are presented. The female, larva and egg are described for C. fraterna (Banks), the female and egg for C. ishigakiensis (Kawai), and unassociated females of Cryptoperla and Peltoperlopsis are also described with informal designations. New records are given for C. karen Stark, P. concolor Banks and P. malickyi Stark & Sivec, Peltoperla nigrifulva Wu is transferred to Peltoperlopsis, Peltoperla sinensis Wu & Claassen is transferred to Cryptoperla, and a checklist of Asian Peltoperlidae is presented.

Two new species of the family Nemouridae, Indonemoura trichotoma sp. n. and I. voluta sp. n., are described from China, and the redescription is provided for Indonemoura longiplatta (Wu, 1949), comb. n. Their relationships with related species are discussed.

The known geographical distribution of the stonefly species Protonemura julia Nicolai, 1983 (Nemouridae, Amphinemurinae) has been considerably extended with new records from Croatia. For the first time, this so-called endemic species of the Italian Julian Alps was found in the mountainous region Gorski kotar (north-western Croatia), at^abranka River spring area in summer 2006. The first record of the species was reconfirmed on the next field trip in autumn 2006, and it was additionally found at Gerov~ica Stream spring area. The new records reported here are the southernmost findings of P. julia, confirming indications that some springs in the Gorski kotar area serve as microrefugia for cold stenothermic species.

This paper describes engineering education in Poland, with a view towards providing a useful overview suitable for comparing the Polish system with that of other countries-especially the United States. Information provided includes (inter alia): brief descriptions of the overall scheme of education in Poland and the history of higher education there; a description of the types of academic institutions now involved in engineering education in Poland; average qualifications of candidates, entrance requirements and enrollment procedures; fields of study, areas of concentration, degrees offered and related requirements; enrollment data; faculty qualifications and accreditation; and current issues of importance to engineering education in Poland such as job markets and their dynamics.

The material of Scopula spp. specimens (n = 1181) in the Hungarian Natural History Museum is revised in the light of recent publications. The museum hosts vouchers of three species from the white-coloured taxa of the "ornata speciesgroup" from the Carpathian Basin and six species from the Palaearctic Region. A historical specimen of S. orientalis, undoubtedly collected in the Carpathian Basin, was found amongst Palaearctic material. This is the first record of this species from the area and its most inland occurrence in Europe. A key to the identification of the three species recorded from the Carpathian Basin is given. Taxonomy is undoubtedly complementary to other fields in biology such as ecology, and both ecologists and taxonomists increasingly acknowledge that they can profit from phylogenetic ecology or ecological phylogeny, respectively. However, such mutual relations between these disciplines are constrained by traditional focuses on different operational scales: taxonomists are more familiar with large scales (e.g., global, continental, many species of a given clade), whereas ecologists are more familiar with small scales (regional, ecosystems, habitats, few species of a given clade). To foster mutually fruitful, 2-way exchanges between taxonomy and ecology at such smaller scales requires assessments of the small-scale performance of taxonomic practices so far used at larger scales. Tropical freshwater globally harbors most species with high genetic and phylogenetic diversity, and high endemism (e.g., Willig et al., 2003; Lomolino et al., 2010). Nevertheless, the tropics include areas still unknown or poorly studied (Irvine et al., 2016; Rico-Sánchez et al., 2020). Additionally, there is high human diversity with numerous cultures and languages (Collard and Foley, 2002), and developing countries in the tropics generally have high population density and industrial growth while lacking funds for environmental research, monitoring, and policy-making (Irvine et al., 2016; Kwok et al., 2007). Despite the fundamental and irreplaceable role of freshwater ecosystems in sustaining life on Earth, these ecosystems are considered among the most threatened (Dudgeon, 2019). In the Anthropocene, freshwater environments are subjected to multiple stressors and cumulative impacts from the interactions of these stressors (Garcia-Moreno et al., 2014; Reid et al., 2019). These impacts are particularly evident in tropical freshwater ecosystems, which have been described as endangered hotspots (Dudgeon et al., 2006; Darwall et al., 2009; Mittermeier et al., 2010), in large part because of the ability to balance supply water for a large human population, the full range of ecosystem services and conservation of freshwater ecosystems and aquatic biodiversity is especially challenged in the region where research funding and environmental regulation and policy are limited. The research topic "Freshwater Science in the Tropical Anthropocene" aimed to provide a critical overview of the current state of the gaps in our understanding of Freshwater Science in the Tropical Anthropocene, its challenges, and its major developments. One of the consequences of the Anthropocene is the so-called sixth massive biodiversity extinction (Kolbert, 2014). Freshwater biodiversity does not escape this trend (Collins, 2010; Winemiller, 2018; Cowie et al., 2022). Morphometric analysis of four sympatric species of the genus Anacroneuria (Plecoptera: Perlidae) Four sympatric species of stoneƀies were evaluated (A. chorrera, A. tachira, A. cacute, and A. paleta) with morphometric analysis to estimate their differentiation through changes in shape. Results indicated no signiſcant variance in form, showing morphological homogeneity explained by phenotypic integration resulting from the ecological similarity. Additional studies with non-traditional tools may help to delimit these species.

Topics considered for publication include systematics, taxonomy, nomenclature, checklists, faunal works, and natural history. Insecta Mundi will not consider works in the applied sciences (i.e. medical entomology, pest control research, etc.), and no longer publishes book reviews or editorials. Insecta Mundi publishes original research or discoveries in an inexpensive and timely manner, distributing them free via open access on the internet on the date of publication. Insecta Mundi is referenced or abstracted by several sources, including the Zoological Record and CAB Abstracts. Insecta Mundi is published irregularly throughout the year, with completed manuscripts assigned an individual number. One of the numerous and valuable results of the Transylvanian Society for Natural Sciences of Sibiu “Siebenbürgischer Verein für Naturwissenschaften zu Hermannstadt” activities was, the creation of hydrobiological collections too. This activity started since 1849, with small donations and contributions from the members and friends and later from
expeditions undertaken specifically to obtain specimens for scientific study or collection.
The actual Sibiu Natural History Museum’s hydrobiological collections, with an age of a century and a half, include corrals, mollusk, plecoptera, odonata, trichoptera, fish and amphibians.

Los escarabajos tigre son numerosos en áreas tropicales y subtropicales, son de hábitos diurnos, activos en la superficie del suelo, en vegetación de estrato medio y dosel. El presente trabajo aporta al conocimiento de la fauna de estos insectos, para lo cual se revisaron los ejemplares de la subfamilia Cicindelinae obtenidos en el marco del proyecto, “Evaluación del estado actual de los objetos de conservaci ón faunísticos en la Isla Gorgona: una aproximación holística a la valoración ecológica del PNN Gorgona” y los ejemplares del Museo de Entomología de la Universidad del Valle (MUSENUV). The present study conducted on the Noctuoidea (Lepidoptera) fauna takes place in Hasankeyf, Batman prov., southeastern Turkey, between 2018-2020. Field based investigations were prominently carried out from sunset till sunrise due to the fact that the dominance of Noctuoidea species are regarded as nocturnal. Insect nets and UV light traps took over efficient roles in capturing noctuoid moths. The cycle of collecting those samples comprised of softening, stretching and identifying consecutively in accordance with the current literature. The results of the research indicated that there are 160 noctuoid moth species in the study area, 110 of which are newly recorded from Batman. The second report of Haemerosia vassilininei A. Bang-Haas, 1912 and endemic Dryobotodes glaucus Ronkay & Gyulai, 2006 in Turkey, are highlighted.

Eastern Black Sea Region of Turkey is a subecoregion of the Caucasus Ecoregion, and its Plecoptera fauna is similar to fauna of Caucasus with unique endemic species of the region. The Caucasus Ecoregion is one of the ''WWF Global 200 Ecoregions,'' and it is also included in the list of top 25 hotspots in the World. Running water ecosystems of Eastern Black Sea sub-ecoregion are the most sensitive to land use change and global climate change. High-altitude aquatic ecosystems are more strongly threatened by global climate change in the region. Plecoptera constitute the most important part of the biodiversity of running waters in the region. Among the benthic macroinvertebrate taxa, Plecoptera is the best indicator of ecological conditions of running waters. The influence of environmental variables on the distribution of twenty Plecoptera species in running water ecosystems (headwaters, crenon, epirhithron, metarhithron) was assessed using canonical correspondence analysis. Sampling was carried out in 2009 and 2011. Eleven end groups were generated from the TWINSPAN analysis. Isoperla rhododendri, Isoperla grammatica, Protonemura bifida, Protonemura eumontana and Perla caucasica were closely related to pH, dissolved oxygen and riparian vegetation. Brachyptera transcaucasica transcaucasica, Nemoura martynovia, Nemoura taurica and Protonemura eumontana were related to Mg and Cu. The results show that the Plecoptera assemblage composition was affected by DO, pH, EC, temperature, nitrite, Ca, Mg, Fe, Cu, Zn, Al, riparian vegetation, altitude and stream width.

Specimens of Perlidae (Plecoptera) from Espírito Santo State in southeastern Brazil were studied. A new species, Anacroneuria ruschii n. sp. is described. Brief remarks on A. debilis (Pictet) and Kempnyia neotropica (Jacobson & Bianchi) are also presented.

Two-dimensional hydrodynamic models are being used increasingly as alternatives to traditional one-dimensional instream flow methodologies for assessing adequacy of flow and associated faunal habitat. Two dimensional modeling of habitat has focused primarily on fishes, but fish-based assessments may not model benthic macroinvertebrate habitat effectively. We extend two dimensional techniques to a macroinvertebrate assemblage in a high elevation stream in the Sierra Nevada (Dana Fork of the Tuolumne River, Yosemite National Park, California, USA). This stream frequently flows at less than 0.03 m 3 /s in late summer and is representative of a common water abstraction scenario: maximum water abstraction coinciding with seasonally low flows. We used two dimensional modeling to predict invertebrate responses to reduced flows that might result from increased abstraction.

A new species of the genus Nemoura from Central Italy is described: Nemoura sabina sp. n. It belongs to the Nemoura flexuosa-marginata species group and had previously been confused with N. flexuosa. Its relationship to other species is discussed.

An overview of Moroccan stoneflies is presented as an annotated summary of published and unpublished records from 115 localities. These records have resulted in an updated species list reflecting taxonomic corrections and noteworthy range extensions for several species. A total of 28 species, belonging to 15 genera and seven families, is now known from Morocco with the greatest diversity found in the Rif Mountains (23 species) and the lowest in eastern Morocco with three species. The majority of Moroccan stoneflies are typical Mediterranean species (86%). The Moroccan endemics comprise nine species (32% of the Moroccan fauna). The Plecoptera fauna of Morocco is compared to that of Algeria and Tunisia. Thirty-eight stonefly species are reported from the entire Maghreb region. Protonemura khroumiriensis Béjaoui & Boumaïza, 2009 is considered a synonym of P. drahamensis Vinçon & Pardo, 2006.

Several new species of Plecoptera {Leuctra hexacanthoides, L. berthelemyi, L. thomasi, Protonemura culmenis, P. canigolensis) collected in the Pyrenees of France, Andorra, and Spain are described and illustrated. Protonemura brevistyla (Ris) and P. montana Kimmins are recorded from the Pyrenees for the first time. De 1984 à 1991, 114 stations du crénal et de l'épirhithral ont été régulièrement prospectées dans les hauts massifs montagneux du Sud-Ouest de l'Europe (Alpes françaises et italiennes, Pyrénées et principales sierras de la Péninsule Ibérique). Parmi les 33 espèces recensées, peu sont crénophiles : S. (N.) carpathicum, P. (P.) latimucro et S. (N.) oiigotuberculatum se développent en très haute altitude ; S. (N.) vernum, S. (N.) brevidens, S. (N.) quasidecolletum et S. (E.) petricolum en haute montagne ; S. (N.) costatum, S. (R.) lamachi et P. Sinacroneuria obscura Li & Murányi, sp. n. is proposed from Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, southcentral China. The new species is described on the basis of male adult, male and female larvae, and drumming signal. This new taxon is compared with related congeners. Sinacroneuria acuticornis Uchida, sp. n. is proposed to validate the manuscript name Nishineuria cornuta Uchida, 1990. The male and larva of Acroneuriini incertae sedis sensu Shimizu et al. (2005) confirmed to refer to this species.

Stoneflies are ancient and relatively primitive insects. Plecopterans number about 2000 species belonging to 16 families. In Brazil two families are known, Gripopterygidae and Perlidae. Two genera of Perlidae have been reported from Rio Grande do Sul State, Anacroneuria and Kempnyia. The intention of this work was to inventory the Anacroneuria fauna in the Sinos River catchment, Rio Grande do Sul. Moreover, given the absence of studies on Perlidae fecundity for the Neotropical region, especially Anacroneuria, another aim of this study was to determine the realized and potential fecundity of A. trimacula from the metioned State. Adults were collected next to rivers of the region of spring of the Sinos River, with light trap. The adults had been preserved in 80% ethanol and they were observed under a stereomicroscope. Eleven females of Anacroneuria trimacula were dissected to determine the number of eggs and ovarioles. Two new species were described, Anacroneuria fiorentini and A. caraa, and eight more were reported:

Los ríos que conforman la cuenca del río Reyes pertenecen a la ecorregión de las Yungas de Jujuy (Argentina). Con el objetivo de identificar la representatividad, riqueza y variación espacio temporal del orden Ephemeroptera en la cuenca se consideraron 10 sitios en el perfil longitudinal (1380- 2200 m s.n.m.) de los ríos Reyes, Lampazar, Quesera, Chinchuli, Guerrero, en dos años (2010-2011) y dos etapas del ciclo hidrológico: aguas altas (marzo -abril: otoño) y aguas bajas (octubre - noviembre: primavera). Se registró una alta representatividad del orden (76,3%) y familias (Baetidae: 72,2%; Leptohyphidae: 3,1%; Leptophlebiidae 1,4% y Caenidae: 0,004%) sobre el total del bentos. Se analizó la variabilidad espacio - temporal de la abundancia de ocho especies. Esta revisão teve como objetivo avaliar o histórico da utilização de alguns grupos de Insetos Aquáticos como bioindicadores de alteração ambiental no estado do Pará, assim como discutir as perspectivas futuras dessa temática à luz das novas tecnologias. Verificou-se consideráveis avanços no uso das Ordens Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera, Trichoptera, Heteroptera e Odonata para monitorar a qualidade ambiental de riachos impactados por diversas atividades antrópicas. Os impactos ambientais mais proeminentes são oriundos de atividades como pecuária, agricultura, mineração, extração de madeira e urbanização.
