Operating Efficiency

Every  organization,  either  small,  medium  or  large  scale  is  concerned  with  performance  as  such performance  is  the  bottom-line  for  every  organization,  business  and  non-business.  This  study examines  the  effect  of  assets  security  control  on  operating  efficiency  of  manufacturing  firms  in Nigeria.  The  study  adopted  content  Analysis  using  a  cross  sectional  survey  among  20  selected
manufacturing  firms  listed  in  Nigeria  Stock  Exchange.  Data  were  obtained  from  the  financial statement  of  the  various  organizations.  Inferential  statistics  of  linear  regression  was  used  for  the hypothesis.  The  result  of  the  study  shows  that  there  is  no  perfect  multi  co-linearity  in  the independent  variable,  (0.5441).  The  result  also  shows  a  positive  coefficient  of  0.05887937  and  pvalue  of  0.001386704  which  is  significant  at  1%  level  of  significance.  It  was  concluded  that  ASC positively influences firms’ operational efficiency in manufacturing firms in Nigeria within the period of study and manufacturing firms in Nigeria can reap reasonable benefits in inculcating good asset security control polices was recommend.

In the past decade multiple challenges arose from the method of software development [4, 4]. As described by Davenport, the development process needs an overhaul [4, 4]. Different disciplines, like project management, requirements engineering, the development of code or quality assurance have been investigated intensively, in order to improve the productivity of development. To obtain valid results, the overhaul needs to start with the refactoring of the right process at first. Often, it is sensible to start with such processes, which operate at the interface to the customer, because they are perhaps the most critical to an organization's success [3, 270 – 271]. Mainly, software development consists of four sub processes: requirements engineering, development, quality assurance and delivery. Requirements engineering and delivery operate on the interface to the customers. Because of the fact that the analysis of requirements is groundbreaking, we select this process as the starting point of a process innovation initiative. We analyse the impact of requirements engineering in KANBAN development processes. Special emphasis is put on the productivity of the overall development process, after a refactoring of requirements engineering.

This paper aims to examine the impact of applying a Total Quality Management approach on the institutional performance of an industrial company in Bahrain. A total of 20 managers working at different levels in the company were surveyed through a specifically designed questionnaire, date collected of which were subject to the analysis using SPSS software. Findings revealed a significant relationship between applying the principles of TQM with its different dimensions such as Total quality oriented leadership, continuous improvement, empowering employees and focus on the production process, and the institutional performance dimensions, such as profitability, productivity, operating efficiency and level of customers' satisfaction in the study company, with concentration on the principle of the production process. Findings also revealed a significant relationship between applying the dimensions of TQM and the dimensions of institutional performance in the study company that could be attributed to demographic variables, such as gender, age, qualifications, experience, and job position. Contribution/ Originality: This study contributes to the existing literature addressing the relationship between Total Quality Management and institutional performance. It used the descriptive analytic methodology of a case study from the Kingdom of Bahrain.

Economic theory states that " free market " competition naturally achieves lower prices—thereby increasing efficiency and benefiting society. This is the first paper in the literature to use means testing to statistically analyze electricity prices, from 1970-2011, for states that restructure their electric utilities—pre-and-post restructuring—relative to U.S. electricity prices; thus determining whether restructured electricity utility states are more or less efficient, after restructuring, than before. This fundamental empirical evidence is sought to explain whether expected operating synergies are being realized and stockholders are gaining or losing relative value—once states restructure—and electric companies are merged or acquired. This paper's empirical results are timely and important to future energy policy—in this crucial to the economy electric power industry—and establish whether " free market " economic theory is being appropriately applied in states that restructure their vertically-integrated government-regulated natural monopoly electric utilities. Future research is suggested.
