The principal aim of the study is definitely to inspect the influence of working capital management practice on firm profitability of the Turkish chemical, petrol, and plastic manufacturing firms listed on Istanbul Stock Exchange (ISE) for a period of five years (2012-2016). Hence, working capital components that employed as independent variables were; accounts receivable period (ARP), inventory conversion period (ICP), accounts payable period (APP), and cash conversion cycle (CCC). The profitability measures that destined to be used as dependent variables were; both return on assets (ROA) and return on equity (ROE) and in addition to that, current ratio (CR), debt ratio (DR), and sales growth (SG) were intended to be applied as control variables. Correlation and regression analysis were employed as a statistical testing tool for the study to uncover the association between independent and dependent variables and then reach the possible goals of the study. As a result, the study witnessed that firm profitability has a positive and negative correlation with ARP and ICP variables respectively. The result also disclosed that ROA has a negative and positive correlation with APP and CCC variables respectively whereas ROE has a positive and negative correlation with APP and CCC variables respectively. Finally, the researcher recommends shortening CCC and APP variables and also building strong communication among purchasing, production, and marketing departments to strengthen the entire business operations and overcome scarcity or excessive inventories.

Purpose -This study aims to investigate differences among Chinese manufacturers-cum-suppliers in their logistics services provided to different local and foreign customers and assess the management areas that they must address in order to satisfy the logistics requirements of their customers. Design/methodology/approach -A questionnaire-based survey was conducted amongst managers of manufacturing firms in four industries, automotive, telecommunication and computer, household appliance, and electronics, located in the Shanghai region of China. A five-point Likert scale (1 -least important, 5 -most important) was used to measure the importance of services provided, and assess customer satisfaction level, impact on management of manufacturers, and difficulties and challenges faced by the manufacturers. Findings -The results indicate that foreign customers place significant emphasis on different services from those of their local counterparts. Results also indicate that many challenges need to be addressed by the manufacturers with respect to HR, customer service, and IT integration. A significant difference between manufacturers' satisfaction levels with local and foreign customers is also noticeable. Practical implications -Since third-party logistics (3PL) industry in China is still in its infancy. Most of the Chinese manufacturing firms have to provide major logistics services to their customers. Hence further growth of the Chinese economy depends to a large extent on the ability of the manufacturing firms to provide efficient and effective logistics services. The findings of this study demonstrate that in order for the outsourced manufacturers in China to provide logistics services to local and foreign customers, they are required to restructure their organizations and adjust their operation strategies. Originality/value -This study is a rare attempt to discuss outsourced manufacturers in China in adjusting their logistics strategies and operations to meet the demands from both local and foreign customers after China's admission to the World Trade Organization.

The main purpose of this research is to investigate the interaction between organizational structure dimensions and intellectual capital components. In order to achieve this aim, a comprehensive literature survey was conducted and then a set of hypotheses developed within which the conceptual model of the research was tested using data obtained from 126 exporters operating in Aydın. According to the results obtained from the study, it has been determined that organizational structure dimensions affect intellectual capital and components at different levels and significance. In the face of fierce competition, business managers should take into account the elements of centralization, hierarchical order and division of labor. Managers should also create a more agile and flexible structure and attach importance to specialization.

The purpose of this study therefore was to establish the influence of supplier development practices on procurement performance of food and beverage manufacturing firms in Nakuru East Sub-County, Kenya. The study specifically sought to establish the influence of supplier training, supplier appraisal, supplier partnership and supplier financial support on procurement performance. The study was anchored on two theories, namely: Human capital Theory and Social Exchange Theory. A survey research design was employed since it permits gathering of data from the respondents in natural settings. The study targeted all procurement staff and accountants in the food and beverage manufacturing firms in Nakuru East Sub-county since they are individually and collectively involved in all the procurement decisions in their respective manufacturing firms. The researcher concluded that, supplier training enhances efficiency and thus enabling the firms to report very few legal challenges in the procurement system. The study concluded that, food and beverage manufacturing firms in Nakuru East sub-County, Kenya should offer financial support to suppliers and also pay suppliers within the shortest time possible. Further studies may also be conducted to relate supplier evaluation and procurement performance in other manufacturing firms.

The study sought to establish the influence of lean warehousing practices on performance of large manufacturing firms in Kenya. The unit of analysis consisted of 138 large manufacturing firms registered with the Kenya association of manufacturing under the category of large scale manufacturing firms; the unit of observation consisted of the Heads of Supply chain, Production and Logistics. Data was collected using questionnaires. The data collected was analyzed by use of descriptive and inferential statistics aided by Statistical Package of Social Sciences (SPSS) version 22. Bivariate regression model was used to show the relationship between the variables. The study findings indicated a positive significant influence of lean warehousing on performance of large manufacturing firms. The study recommends the need by manufacturing firms in Kenya to practice lean ware housing practices such as implementing optimal storage, automated picking system and adopting integrated order receiving to a very great extent so improve their performance more. There is a need for the firms to enhance adoption of the lean production practices such as having a continuous improvement programs in terms of production, automation and use of just in time concept to a great extent so as to improve performance significantly.

The infusion of data-driven services in manufacturing provides new opportunities for long-term competitive advantage; however, it also poses new challenges and entails tradeoffs among strategic options. Digital servitization changes intra-firm processes and customer relationships as well as overall ecosystem dynamics. Drawing on an extensive study of ABB Marine & Ports, a market-leading systems integrator, the concept of digital servitization is examined by analyzing its key characteristics, including opportunities and challenges for manufacturers. The resource integration patterns that connect actors and the dual role of technology in both increasing resource integration complexity and in facilitating the coordination of complexity are discussed. Advancing digital servitization requires fostering service-centricity and executing strategic change initiatives for both the internal organization and the broader ecosystem. Firms must undertake three interlinked changes: (1) digital, (2) organizational, and (3) ecosystem transformations. In addition to contributing to the service literature, these findings provide actionable insights for managers.

The advent of globalization has brought with it drastic changes to the operating landscape for firms in the manufacturing sector. The need for transformational changes so as sustain competitive advantage has been on the rise. Firms are expected to continuously re-engineer their business models and operations to catch up with the turbulent environment. Previous studies have investigated the contribution of manufacturing firms in economic growth. Some have concentrated on the preferred approaches that countries should take, whether protectionism or free market. However, empirical studies investigating direct impact of dynamic capabilities on manufacturing firms' performance have been minimal. The general objective of the study was to examine the influence of the three dimensions of dynamic capabilities (sensing capabilities, seizing capabilities and reconfiguration capabilities) on firm performance. The study was grounded on the Resource-Based View theory. An explanatory research design was used for the cross-sectional survey. Primary data was obtained from 271 out of 369 firms sampled from a population of 1,496 manufacturing firms in Nairobi County, Kenya, using a structured questionnaire instrument through drop and pick. The questionnaire was completed by the firms' CEOs. Reliability and validity tests were carried out on the research instruments and study measures. Hypotheses were tested using regression analysis results, namely:-sensing capabilities (B=0.215, P<0.01), seizing capabilities (B=0.194, P<0.01) and reconfiguration capabilities (B=0.182, P<0.001). These three variables combined, contributed 25.9% (R 2 =0.259) of the variance in firm performance. The study concluded that deployment of dynamic capabilities has significant influence on firm performance.

This study aims at exploring the impact of HR practices on job satisfaction in the context of Bangladesh. A total of 60 responses from 20 manufacturing firms were collected and analyzed objectively. It was found that HR practices have significant association with job satisfaction (JS). In addition, human resource planning (HRP), and training and development (TND) were found to have positive impact on job satisfaction (JS). It was also found that TND has the greatest impact on JS. Academicians, researchers, policy-makers, practitioners, students, local and foreign entrepreneurs of Bangladesh and other similar countries could benefit from this paper by exploring the association between HR practices and job satisfaction.

Every  organization,  either  small,  medium  or  large  scale  is  concerned  with  performance  as  such performance  is  the  bottom-line  for  every  organization,  business  and  non-business.  This  study examines  the  effect  of  assets  security  control  on  operating  efficiency  of  manufacturing  firms  in Nigeria.  The  study  adopted  content  Analysis  using  a  cross  sectional  survey  among  20  selected
manufacturing  firms  listed  in  Nigeria  Stock  Exchange.  Data  were  obtained  from  the  financial statement  of  the  various  organizations.  Inferential  statistics  of  linear  regression  was  used  for  the hypothesis.  The  result  of  the  study  shows  that  there  is  no  perfect  multi  co-linearity  in  the independent  variable,  (0.5441).  The  result  also  shows  a  positive  coefficient  of  0.05887937  and  pvalue  of  0.001386704  which  is  significant  at  1%  level  of  significance.  It  was  concluded  that  ASC positively influences firms’ operational efficiency in manufacturing firms in Nigeria within the period of study and manufacturing firms in Nigeria can reap reasonable benefits in inculcating good asset security control polices was recommend.

The paper empirically examines the impact of corporate governance on the cash holding of the firms. The components of corporate governance are measured by board size, board meeting, audit committee members, director's remuneration and non executive directors and the cash holding is measured with the log of average cash and size is taken as control variable for the control effect on the dependent variables. Moreover, correlation and panel regression model were employed to examine the relationship between the corporate governance and cash holding. Empirical data was collected from 96 firms over the period of 2004-05 to 2013-14. The results show that directors' remuneration and the number of audit committee members positively influence the cash holding and the board size also positively influences the cash holding whereas, the non executive directors and the board meetings do not play any role in enhancing the cash holding.

The purpose of this research work is to measure the sustainable performance of manufacturing organizations. This research conceptualize the sustainable performance dimension and the primary data for the study are collected from 62 executives of manufacturing organizations and the proposed relationships among constructs are tested using structural equation modeling.

An empirical evaluation of the adopted but a modified version of the firm valuation equation has been conducted to test the retained earnings-based firm valuation model including retained earnings, firm value, and shareholders’ wealth as variables. The impact of retained earnings on firm value and shareholders’ wealth as well as firm value on shareholders' wealth has been evaluated by using primary data collected randomly from 85 listed manufacturing firms using a questionnaire. The alpha score of .866 has been generated relating constructs of the research instrument. Furthermore, factor analysis and ordinary least squares regression has been used to test study hypotheses. Study findings suggested that retained earnings have played a vital role in the expansion activities and benefited sample firms in achieving desired growth. Moreover, the value of sample firms enhanced and shareholders’ wealth maximized due to investment and reinvestment of retained earnings in value-enhancing projects. Thus, results have applauded the Musharraf government and concomitantly validated the strength of retained earnings-based firm valuation model.

The study sought to determine the effects of parent brand quality on sales performance in manufacturing companies in Nakuru Kenya. Categorization theory was used in the study. The study employed a descriptive survey research design. The population of the study included 33 general managers in manufacturing firms in Nakuru town making a total of 33 respondents. The study adopted a census since the population of the study was not huge. Structured questionnaires were used to collect data which were tested for validity and reliability. Data collected was analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences. Data analyzed was discussed in form of descriptive and inferential statistics and presented in tables. Findings indicated that consumers experience had a positive significant relationship with sales performance in manufacturing firms in Nakuru Kenya. Based on the findings of the study, it was concluded that customer experience had a significant influence on sales performance of manufacturing firms in Kenya. The study recommended that the sales departments in the manufacturing firms should ensure they create positive consumer experience for their company"s brands. This will ensure that in future when the company has devised new brands, they will have an easy t ime in marketing them.

The main aim of the study was to determine the role of cost management on the performance of Cement Manufacturing firms, examine the role IT integration on performance of Cement Manufacturing firms in Kenya, to find out the extent to which top management supply support affect performance of Cement Manufacturing firms in Kenya and to find out the effect of lead-time on performance of Cement Manufacturing firms in Kenya. A descriptive research design was used. The target population of the study was Managers or equivalent from Six (6) departments that are Procurement, finance, legal, stores, human resource, and quality control because they are directly concerned with the supply chain. The sample size was 83 respondents from a target population of 500. The study adopted the use of a questionnaire as the main research instrument. The study adopted both quantitative and qualitative approaches, implying that both descriptive statistics and inferential statistics were employed. Quantitative data collected from the questionnaire were analyzed statistically using the Statistical Package for Social Scientist (SPSS version 24). The study tested the significance level of each independent variable against the dependent variable at a 95% confidence level using ANOVA, Correlation and regression techniques. The results revealed that cost management has no significant effect on the performance of cement manufacturing firms. However, through IT firms can manage suppliers information in a more effective and efficient manner. Therefore, IT needs to be used to select suppliers and facilitate interaction with suppliers electronically. Finally, firms have to work collaboratively to serve the customers.

The arguments on the responsiveness of capital structure leverage to sets of its major determinants have dominated the corporate finance literature. There is however no consensus regarding the direction of effects of these determinants on debt to equity ratio. In contribution to existing literature, this study explored development of debt to equity ratio in capital structure in the Nigerian context, with aim of filling gaps in methodology which have been argued to undermine the credibility of previous findings. The method of estimation used is the Panel-Fully Modified Ordinary Least Squares (FMOLS). The Pedroni cointegration test was employed to test for long-run relationship. The descriptive statistics and the panel unit root test were the preliminary test. We ascertained that our data set are stable and normally distributed as precursor to determining if the variables are cointegrated. A more sophisticated method of panel estimation other than the traditional method was adopted which among other advantages purges the defects posed by heteroskendasticity prevalent in the conversional estimation method. We established that there is a long-run relationship between debt to equity ratio and tangibility, profitability, firm growth and firm size. The panel regression estimate confirmed the trade-off theory and the pecking order hypothesis in Nigeria as tangibility was found to have positive effect on corporate leverage. However, the finding with regards to growth and firm size supports the trade-off theory while discrediting the pecking order assumption. Profitability on the other hand confirmed the pecking order theory for Nigeria and shows that profitability has negative effect on debt to equity ratio. The robustness and reliability of the findings was embedded on the controls for residual weaknesses and disturbances.

There are several indicators of poor financial performance and one of them is financial distress. If financial distress
is not predicted on time and quick measures been taken then bankruptcy is likely to occur. The costs associated with
bankruptcy are enormous and normally tend to affect all stakeholders of the firm. The study applies Multi
Discriminant Analysis (MDA) which involves consolidation of effects from all ratios which are measuring the key
aspects of financial health. Keeping the above view in mind, the model has been employed to test the financial
distress of six (6) manufacturing firms listed in Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE) in Tanzania from 2010 -2014.
The study was based on the published secondary data extracted from annual financial report. Findings revealed
that five firms were experiencing financial healthy (average Z-score above 2.99) while the remaining two
manifested financial distress (average Z-score is less than 1.88) over the study period. Further findings shows that,
management needs special attention on those variables which are very sensitive with regards to financial health of
the firms under discussion.

The paper addresses the building of innovation management capabilities at firm level in emerging economies by investigating the adoption of innovation management practices in Brazilian manufacturing firms. Innovation management practices in this paper encompass innovation strategy design, innovation management processes and tools and innovation networking practices. The paper investigates how Brazilian subsidiaries of multinational corporations which carry out R&amp;D and innovation activities compare to firms controlled by Brazilian nationals in terms of diffusion of innovation management practices. In order to investigate empirically these issues, a survey of an intentional sample of 65 Brazilian firms was carried out in 2015. The survey comprised the application of an electronic structured questionnaire supported by visits and extensive interviews aimed at collecting evidence. Findings indicate that subsidiaries of multinational corporations in Brazil have presented higher rate of diffusion of innovation management practices and developed more capabilities than their local competitors. Nevertheless, Brazilian national firms have shown higher profile in adoption of practices related to technology intelligence and networking with Brazilian public research institutions. Amongst factors explaining such differences and nuances, firms&#39; marketing and technology strategies and the span of their R&amp;D function scope stand out.

The study investigates foreign exchange rate risk exposure of 37 manufacturing firms traded in Istanbul Stock Exchange in Turkey during the period of 2005-2014 by using Jorion (1990) regression model. Unlike previous studies, the relationship has been conducted by regressing ratio of return on capital employed instead of stock returns of firms against both contemporaneous and lagged exchange-rate changes. The findings show that analyzed firms exposed to exchange-rate fluctuations can be explained by the level of its export ratio and size of assets. The firms with high level of export ratio and large size of assets tend to have less exposure. The evidence also indicates that age of firm is not determining factor for exchange exposure. Regardless of the efforts of government to revamp the manufacturing sector in Nigeria, the sub-sector has remained ineffective with dwindling output and there have been consistent fluctuations in the share of the manufacturing sub-sector to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in Nigeria. This study therefore examines the determinants of output growth in the Nigerian formal manufacturing sub-sector. The study made use of fifty (50) formal manufacturing firms listed in the Nigerian Stock Exchange Data for the formal manufacturing firms were sourced from the Nigeria Stock Exchange (NSE) Fact Book and the Central Bank of Nigeria Statistical Bulletin 2014. The estimated models in the study were specified following the works of Sangosanya (2011). The study employed the dynamic panel data analysis (the dynamic models of the Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) and the Systemic Generalized Method of Moments (SYSGMM)) for the Nigerian formal manufacturing sub-sector. The study showed that the coefficient of operating efficiency in the GMM&SYSGMM estimate, i.e.-0.0349214 and-0.0199787 respectively showed a negative relationship between OPREF and firms' growth. This implied that information supplied by firms about their growth indicators is at variance with their performance. This further speaks volume of the weakness of regulatory agencies to effectively monitor the performance of manufacturing firms in Nigeria. Also, the study showed that exchange rate, bank efficiency and managerial efficiency have significant positive relationship with output growth of firms. Also variables such as degree of financial development, energy infrastructural facilities and government regulations and policy have significant negative impact with output growth of firms in Nigeria. Findings revealed that all the explanatory variables identified in the study are strong determinants of firm growth in the Nigerian manufacturing 223 sub-sector. The study recommended among others that government should formulate and implement policies that would hinder formal manufacturing firms from publishing fake report of their growth. Also, government should formulate and implement policy measures that would make imported goods more expensive and appropriate monetary policies that would make the cost of borrowing from banks (interest rate) affordable should be priotised in Nigeria.

This contribution investigates why firms keep on downsizing once they have started to do so. From a theoretical standpoint, we develop economic and institutional explanations for explaining corporate downsizing duration. The empirical work is carried out applying event history techniques to a sample of manufacturing firms drawn from the Spanish Survey on Business Strategies from 1994 to 2005. Although results show support for persistence in downsizing over time, repeated personnel reductions is not a widespread tool in managing the workforce in this country. In addition, we find certain key corporate parameters such as profitability, temporality rate, size and employment termination costs (as well as market demand trends) to be important determinants of the continuation of on-going downsizing experiences. This is the first study on this issue using corporate-level data for Spain and multivariate methods.

This study examines the effect of human resource development on organization productivity A study of selected manufacturing firms in Anambra State. This study therefore recommends that Manufacturing firms should strive to employ competent employees in order to improve their productivity. Employees that have developed expertise from experience should be retained and encouraged by firms because they are source of improving productivity. This study assesses the extent at which manufacturing firms undertook feasibility studies prior to set up their businesses. Specifically, the study whether manufacturing firms in Anambra State adequate financing; consider the existing competitors and embarked on market determination prior to commencement. Three hypotheses were formulated in line with the objectives of the study. Survey research design was adopted. Data were obtained from questionnaires and analyzed with five point likert's scale and the three hypotheses formulated were tested using t-test statistical tool with aid of SPSS statistical package version 20.0. From the analysis, the study found that the revealed that manufacturing firms ensure adequate financing, considered competitors and embarked on market determination prior to commencement. Based on the findings, the researcher recommended among others that Government should assist entrepreneurs in documenting reliable market information and ensure easy accessibility of fund, this can increasing their interest in feasibility study.

Pursuing sustainable development creates competitiveness for manufacturing firms in the market, however the financial pressure of adopting sustainable environmental practices is still a major concern. Few studies were found on the interrelationships between supply chain management practices, environmental sustainability, and firm financial performance. Moreover, manufacturing companies are compelled by different pressure groups across the globe to maintain environmental standards while conducting their business and supply chain activities. Therefore, the current study aims to investigate the impact of supply chain practices on environmental sustainability and financial performance. In addition, the role of environmental sustainability as a mediator between supply chain management and financial performance was analyzed to improve sustainable development. A well-designed questionnaire was administered to manufacturing companies in Jordan for data collection. A total of 376 responses were analyzed and the proposed hypotheses were tested by using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) approach. The results reveal that environmental sustainability was tested significantly and influenced by supply chain practices such as relationship with customers, postponement, level of information sharing, and information quality. Whereas environmental sustainability had a significant direct effect on financial performance. Finally, environmental sustainability mediated the relationship of all supply chain management practices with financial performance except strategic supplier partnership dimension. The study provides policy guidelines to decision makers while simultaneously assists the managers to improve sustainability practices in manufacturing companies.

The uncertainty in Nigerian business environment has made it difficult for businesses to respond quickly to the unpredicted and changing environment. Therefore, the study evaluated the effect of learning organization on organizational survival with reference to selected Nigerian manufacturing firms. The study objectives were to: examine the influence of learning organization on organizational survival; evaluate the relationship between learning organization elements and organizational survival elements. Primary data were obtained through a questionnaire. A total of 359 respondents were randomly sampled from the study population of 5401 employees. Multiple regression and correlation were used for data analysis. This study aims at exploring the impact of HR practices on job satisfaction in the context of Bangladesh. A total of 60 responses from 20 manufacturing firms were collected and analyzed objectively. It was found that HR practices have significant association with job satisfaction (JS). In addition, human resource planning (HRP), and training and development (TND) were found to have positive impact on job satisfaction (JS). It was also found that TND has the greatest impact on JS. Academicians, researchers, policy,makers, practitioners, students, local and foreign entrepreneurs of Bangladesh and other similar countries could benefit from this paper by exploring the association between HR practices and job satisfaction.

The core objective of current study is to investigate the costs of financial distress of ongoing manufacturing sector of Pakistan. A panel of 146 manufacturing firms Pakistan are selected for this study for the period of 2001-2011. Two most applicable panel data techniques (fixed effects and random effects models) are utilized to investigate the costs of financial distress and Hausman's specification test recommended that fixed effects model is most appropriated model in this study. The results of fixed effects model suggest that financial distress of ongoing firms of Pakistan has significant direct impact on opportunity losses in case of Pakistan after control average collection period, total assets growth, fixed to total assets ratio, tangibility of assets and sector distressed. The upcoming studies must explore direct costs of financial distress and bankruptcy in case of manufacturing as well as service sector of Pakistan.

Every  organization,  either  small,  medium  or  large  scale  is  concerned  with  performance  as  such performance  is  the  bottom-line  for  every  organization,  business  and  non-business.  This  study examines  the  effect  of  assets  security  control  on  operating  efficiency  of  manufacturing  firms  in Nigeria.  The  study  adopted  content  Analysis  using  a  cross  sectional  survey  among  20  selected
manufacturing  firms  listed  in  Nigeria  Stock  Exchange.  Data  were  obtained  from  the  financial statement  of  the  various  organizations.  Inferential  statistics  of  linear  regression  was  used  for  the hypothesis.  The  result  of  the  study  shows  that  there  is  no  perfect  multi  co-linearity  in  the independent  variable,  (0.5441).  The  result  also  shows  a  positive  coefficient  of  0.05887937  and  pvalue  of  0.001386704  which  is  significant  at  1%  level  of  significance.  It  was  concluded  that  ASC positively influences firms’ operational efficiency in manufacturing firms in Nigeria within the period of study and manufacturing firms in Nigeria can reap reasonable benefits in inculcating good asset security control polices was recommend.
