moreMy name is Carlton Burroughs and I am a client to Mr. Brian King. I am writing you to attest to Mr. King’s character.
First let me start by saying that Mr. King is an awesome human being. Words cannot express how blessed we are to have him here on earth.
Mr. King called me on a Friday night to inform me as to the suspension of his license to practice law in the state of New York. I was flabbergasted and at a loss for words to think that I would not have legal representation in my very serious case, where I am a victim of fraud and potential racketeering. I met Mr. King over a year and half ago, and called him sparingly, seeking his input on other legal matters. I recently hired Mr. King to represent me in housing court. His knowledge, expertise and how quick he familiarized himself with the details and facts of my case was acknowledged immediately and immensely appreciated. The building where I reside has been involved in a Supreme Court case where we have not seen any profound results as we have seen in our housing cases in a short amount of time with Mr. King’s representation. His impact on the case was well beyond stellar. Considering how expensive it is to retain a quality and qualified attorney, it is a gift from heaven to have stumbled upon Mr. King.
In the arena of attorneys Mr. King is simply the best in New York City that I have encountered.
I have referred Mr. King’s legal services to several individuals and to lose Mr. King's services would be devastating to our livelihood and a tragedy equal to that of September 11, 2001 (911). That may sound like hyperbole, but I assure you it is not. Everyone that I have referred to Mr. King, to a person, has called me expressing how grateful they are for me connecting them to him. Specifically, because he is affordable, and mostly because his honesty and integrity is impeccable. When I speak of honesty what I mean is that he takes quality time to listen and to explain in detail the law as to why he would take the case or why he would not. And if a case is righteous, he doesn’t turn it away, even when there is little or none to gain monetarily, but there is anything to gain in the commonweal of the public.
Mr. King’s law license should be restored immediately. It is just unthinkable that an attorney of his caliber and integrity could be removed from the bar on the grounds that he somehow threatened the public interest. It would be the burden of anyone making that claim against him to identify even one attorney in New York City that has shown as much commitment to the public interest via private or public deeds as Mr. King has shown. I challenge anyone reading this to put forth the names of such attorneys, so that the public interest can benefit as handily from them as it does from the works of Mr. King.
Thank you. Carlton Burroughs

Obituary: ROBERT GLEN 'PONCHO' GUMBS , June 23, 1977 - August 28, 2005 died suddenly in El Paso, TX; leaving behind two daughters, family and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Wed., Sept. 7 at 11 a.m. Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 1500 So. Hanley Rd. Burial at J. B. National Cemetery.
I attended college in Jefferson City, Missouri, with Poncho in 1997 and 1998. He and I were in the same freshman clique - basically athletes with street smarts who would all end up being recruited as sophomores into the BGLO's on campus. The Kappas kidnapped him and a couple other buddies from our clique, Mike and Big James, for initiation around the same time that the Alphas kidnapped Chad and me.
Poncho was a very talented athlete in several sports - basketball, football, boxing, wrestling - to name a few. He had a great sense of humor and his personality was kind and humble, and also confident. He never was a chatty person nor was he open to spreading gossip or even hearing it. He earned our trust and respect from day one because he was on some r.n.s.
He was a gentleman - very respectful toward the ladies, despite their constant propositions, their serenades outside of his dorm room, two tons of fan mail, and even a few stalkers. In fact, his modesty multiplied his status as a heartthrob, whereas it was already a consensus with the girls that "he looked like Genuwine" and therefore could have had a turn with as many as he pleased.
He was not bashful about his Mexican heritage, representing the Latino culture he picked up -- from his daddy's side, if i'm not mistaken. His cultural exchanges, though distinctive in ways, were seamless with the black culture that he also identified with.
In sum, Poncho was an outstanding individual with great potential. Kudos to his parents and blessings to his entire family. -bk
