The paper reports the results of pilot test on the cooling performance of a direct cross flow mechanical cooling tower located in the Kebili region in the southern part of Tunisia. In this study heat and mass transfer data are measured within the tower over a period of one year and compared with external weather data collected over the same period. The data enabled the influence of different weather conditions on the performance of the cooling tower to be analyzed. The results obtained show that ambient humidity has a greater influence on performance than external temperature. In fact, significantly better cooling performance of about 80% was obtained during the high temperature, low humidity summer months than during the winter period, less than 40%, with relatively low external temperature and high humidity. These results indicate the relative importance of evaporative cooling as compared to convective cooling. The effect of wind on cooling performance was found to be considerable but was confined to those periods when wind direction coincided with the orientation of the louvers of the tower. This was observed to occur only during the summer period when compared to winter period, thus attesting the benefits of the use of proper cooling tower design for improving efficiency and conserve energy.

Seed coat of Jatropha curcas was investigated for the removal of some selected metals from aqueous solutions. The selected metal ions are Cu, Ni and Cr. In this work, impact of pH of solution and sorption time on sorption capacity was investigated. At a pH of 5.0, 6.0 and 5.0 relatively to sorption time of 120mins, 60mins and 120mins respectively, 88.88%, 99.78% and 97.81% of Ni, Cu, and Cr were removed accordingly. Adsorption data analyzed using Langmuir and Freundlich models shows that Cu and Cr however followed Langmuir isotherms and not Freundlich while Ni adsorption conforms to both Langmuir and Freundlich models. This study shows that prepared biomass of Jatropha curcas husk can be used as an adsorbent for removal of Cu, Ni and Cr from wastewater or any industrial effluent

Current is a social and political thing; its presence or absence is never just about electric power or a connection to the grid but also about rights and entitlements, about political recognition and connections to the state. As anthropologists respond to changing social and economic demands for electricity infrastructures across the rural world, 'current thinking' offers new purchase on questions of citizenship and justice. This chapter opens up the material politics of electricity off the grid by exploring the salience of 'current' in rural India.

I developed Leonardo da Vinci's turbine and I used it to prove the new scientific theory of energy production by means of new natural forces such as the forces of atmospheric pressure, hydrostatic pressure, gravity and the forces of certain rare metals such as neodymium and others.
In this study I will propose a new theory of energy production exploiting constant natural forces such as gravitational force, the force of atmospheric pressure, the force of hydrostatic pressure and even the force of permanent magnets. I will rely in this study on a new system that I invented and which concerns the conversion of the gravitational potential energy into electric energy and relates to a new concept concerning the repetition of the work of the gravitational force provided by a gravitational turbine with magnetic bearing during a quarter revolution via a technical solution which allows to repeat the action of gravitational force and keep the dynamic equilibrium of rotation of the turbine to be able to add an alternator and convert the kinetic energy of the turbine into electrical energy.

In the face of scarcity of energy resources and rising energy prices due primarily to a world of increasing demand, energy security concerns becomes more crucial both for private and public sector alike. At the same time, energy policies have been shifting and policy changes have become hard to predict because of radical changes in energy supply. This paper analyzes the barriers to sustainable energy development in Nigeria which are: (1) cost and pricing barriers, (2) legal and regulatory barriers, (3) market performance barriers. It concludes by highlighting some key policies that can help address some of the identified barriers in order to ensure a secured sustainable energy future for Nigeria.

Léonard de Vinci ne s'est pas trompé lorsqu'il a conçu une turbine gravitationnelle pour produire de l'énergie mécanique en exploitant la force gravitationnelle et son idée n'a aucun rapport avec le terme "mouvement perpétuel". J'ai prouvé par des calculs précis qu'il s'agit d'une solution technique grâce à laquelle la gravité peut devenir une source d'énergie renouvelable sans violer aucune des lois de la thermodynamique.

J'ai développé la turbine de Léonard de Vinci et je l'ai utilisée pour prouver la nouvelle théorie scientifique de la production d'énergie au moyen de nouvelles forces naturelles telles que les forces de la pression atmosphérique, la pression hydrostatique, la gravité et les forces de certains métaux rares comme le néodyme et autres.

Je voudrais inviter les fabricants, les ingénieurs et les chercheurs intéressés à trouver une solution définitive à la crise énergétique actuelle à essayer de fabriquer la turbine gravitationnelle décrite dans cette recherche avec les mêmes dimensions et métaux mentionnés, et ils obtiendront 8MW d'énergie propre, cette turbine gravitationnelle n'est soumise à aucune propriété industrielle et vous pouvez l'utiliser gratuitement.

Dans cette étude, je proposerai une nouvelle théorie pour la production de l'énergie exploitant des forces naturelles constantes telles que la force gravitationnelle, la force de la pression atmosphérique, la force de la pression hydrostatique et même la force des aimants permanents. Je m'appuierai dans cette étude sur un nouveau système que j'ai inventé et qui concerne la conversion de l'énergie potentielle gravitationnelle en énergie électrique à partir d'un nouveau concept concernant la répétition du travail de la force gravitationnelle fournie par une turbine gravitationnelle à palier magnétique pendant un quart de tour via une solution technique qui permet de répéter l'action de la force gravitationnelle et de garder l'équilibre dynamique de rotation de la turbine pour pouvoir rajouter un alternateur et convertir l'énergie cinétique de la turbine en énergie électrique.

In the face of scarcity of energy resources and rising energy prices due primarily to a world of increasing demand, energy security concerns becomes more crucial both for private and public sector alike. At the same time, energy policies have been shifting and policy changes have become hard to predict because of radical changes in energy supply. The National Bureau of Statistics in a recent release noted that the growth of Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has been greatly impacted due to challenges in electricity and oil production.

This paper analyzes the barriers to sustainable energy development in Nigeria, as well as the role of public policies in sustainable energy development using a combination of empirical and exploratory research methods. It focuses on the role of stakeholders (businesses, NGO’s, civil society groups, among others) in influencing new policy formulation and policy change, as well as the role of policy intervention in achieving progress in sustainability.

It concludes by highlighting the possible contribution of policies and their role in ensuring a secured sustainable energy future for Nigeria in connection with three major energy sustainability dimensions: energy security (in terms of the ability of supplies to meet current and future demand, reliability of energy infrastructures, as well as effective management of energy supply); energy equity (in terms of accessible and affordable energy supply across the population); and environmental sustainability (in terms of developing energy supply from low carbon sources, as well as achieving supply and demand side efficiencies).

This paper empirically shows that the combined effect of applying the selected feature subsets and optimized parameters on machine learning techniques significantly improves the accuracy for solar power prediction. To provide evidence, experiments are carried on in two phases. For all the experiments the machine learning techniques namely Least Median Square (LMS), Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) and Support Vector Machine (SVM) are used. In the first phase five well-known wrapper feature selection methods are used to obtain the prediction accuracy of machine learning techniques with selected feature subsets and default parameter settings. The experiments from the first phase demonstrate that holding the default parameters, LMS, MLP and SVM provides better prediction accuracy (i.e. reduced MAE and MASE) with selected feature subsets rather than without selected feature subsets. After getting improved prediction accuracy from the first phase, the second phase continues the experiments to optimize machine learning parameters and the prediction accuracy of those machine learning techniques are re-evaluated through adopting both the optimized parameter settings and selected feature subsets. The comparison between the results of two phases clearly shows that the later phase (i.e. machine learning techniques with selected feature subsets and optimized parameters) provides substantial improvement in the accuracy for solar power prediction than the earlier phase (i.e. machine learning techniques with selected feature subsets and default parameters). Experiments are carried out using reliable and real life historical meteorological data. The machine learning accuracy of solar radiation prediction is justified in terms of statistical error measurement and validation metrics. Experimental results of this paper facilitate to make a concrete verdict that providing more attention and effort towards the feature subset selection and machine learning parameter optimization (e.g. combined effect of selected feature subsets and optimized parameters on prediction accuracy which is investigated in this paper) can significantly contribute to improve the accuracy of solar power prediction.

Introduction Qu’en 2018, une revue d’anthropologie dedie l’un de ses numeros aux pratiques energetiques et a l’ethique de l’energie ne saurait etonner. L’anthropologie de l’energie, et plus generalement les etudes socioanthropologiques sur l’energie se sont multipliees en nombre, surtout dans les dix dernieres annees, en constituant ce que Dominic Boyer (2014) a appele : « la troisieme generation » d’etudes sur ce domaine. Cette generation aurait pris le relais d’une premiere generation, datant des annees 40-50, et principalement representee par les travaux de Leslie White, et d’une deuxieme generation, developpee dans les annees 70 (Boyer ibid. : 310 et suiv.). Public Engagement in Research is a key element in "Responsible Research and Innovation"; a cross-cutting issue in current European research funding. Public engagement can advance energy R&D, by delivering results that are more in-line with society's views and demands; and collaboration also unlocks societal skills and knowledge. This paper structures the ways to look at engagement, and gives some pointers on how to implement it in energy R&D, with various levels of intensity. The publics to engage with can be citizens, future users, affected persons, but also organisations that represent them. We have selected methods and tools that showcase a broad range of types of engagement that have been applied in The Netherlands or the UK. The cases are grouped based on the role of the researcher in the engagement process. These roles relate to discussing with, consulting, involving, collaborating with and supporting the various publics. This study shows that there is a diversity of tools and methods already available-open to variation, combinations and further development-that facilitate the participation of society in energy research. Not only for democratic reasons, but also for instrumental benefits in creating innovations to help solve the Grand Societal Challenge of the energy transition.

This paper is aimed to study the energy consumption in Indian Ferrous Foundries and to investigate measures for energy conservation. The natural sources of energy coal, oil, gas etc. are depleting fast. As per the survey conducted and reports published by several National& International agencies, the energy consumption in Indian ferrous foundries is much more above the required limits and has to be drastically reduced. This paper deals with LDO fired rotary furnace. The author conducted a series of experimental investigations on the self designed and developed ,rotary furnaces, installed at S.Harbhajan Singh Namdhari Enterprises industrial estate, Nunihai, Agra for production of cylinder heads and auto parts, and at Faculty of Engineering, Dayalbagh Educational Institute (DEI), Dayalbagh, Agra (a self deemed university.) These experimental investigations on the rotary furnaces produced excellent results, which are accrued here in. The experimental investigations revealed that by oxygen enrichment of the preheated air, the specific fuel consumption reduced by 49.87% and energy consumption by 47.14%.
