East Asian Money

En el presente trabajo se brinda un estudio histórico general y numismático sobre las emisiones de vales militares (conocidos como billetes de ocupación) emitidos por los japoneses para Filipinas durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial. En el artículo, se recorren con detalle las vicisitudes en torno a la producción de papel-moneda realizada de forma oficial por The Japanese Government, así como también, sobre las falsificaciones introducidas en Filipinas por las fuerzas aliadas que luchaban en el Pacífico contra los nipones. Estas emisiones falsificadas, además de sustentar la actividad de los diversos grupos guerrilleros que ofrecían resistencia a la ocupación, tenían la finalidad de desestabilizar la economía filipina. El trabajo está plagado, por lo tanto, de anécdotas históricas, curiosidades y varios pormenores técnicos que rodean el conjunto de estas emisiones (tanto genuinas como las imitaciones estadounidenses), como es por ejemplo, el uso de estos billetes por parte de EEUU como medio de propaganda anti-japonesa.

In the early twentieth century, when the Communists gained territory, they set up revolutionary base areas (also known as soviets), and issued new coins and notes, using whatever expertise, supplies and technology were available. Like coins and banknotes all over the world, these played an important role in economic and financial life, and were also instrumental in conveying images of the new political authority. Since 1949, all regular banknotes in the People's Republic of China have been issued by the People's Bank of China, and the designs of the notes reflect the concerns of the Communist Party of China.
