Character Building

The purpose of this research was to investigate the effect of implementing the assessment model based on character building to improve discipline and student achievement. The assessment model based on character building includes three components, which are the behavior of students, the efforts, and student achievement. This assessment model based on the character-building is implemented in science philosophy and educational assessment courses, in the Graduate Program of Educational Technology Department, Educational Faculty, Universitas Negeri Surabaya. This research used the control group pre-test and post-test design. The data collection method used in this research were observation and test. The observation was used to collect the data about the disciplines of the student in the instructional process, while the test was used to collect the data about a student’s achievement. Moreover, the study applied a t-test to the analysis of data. The result of this research showed that the assessment model based on character building improved discipline and student achievement.

The research aims at (a) describing the strategies and identifying the levels of refusal speech act in politeness and (b) formulating the internalization of polite values in a process of the Javanese culture-based students" character building. It was conducted at Darul Ihsan Muhammadiyah Islamic Boarding School Sragen, Central Java, Indonesia. It employed a descriptive and qualitative, and analytic, critic, and holistic approach. The data sources covered all the students (santri) and teachers (asatidz) in both formal and informal situations. The objects were the refusal speech acts, spoken in the communication at the school. The data were collected with the techniques of content analysis, in-depth interview, and observation. These were analyzed with a contextual-extralingual method. In conclusion, the results of the research show that: (a) the refusal speech act is performed through the indirect (63%) and direct strategies (37%), (b) the refusal speech act is spoken through indirect communication in politeness (29%), impoliteness (56%), disadvantage-benefit (3%), authority (5%), and option (5%), and social distance (2%), and (c) the internalization of the students" character building is performed in the forms of role model, habit, supervision, advice and suggestion, warning, and sanction. The dominant factors in the internalization process are closely related to the teachers" roles, Islamic Boarding School"s circumstance, and politeness building in the learning process. The problems are closely related to the low understanding of politeness, heterogeneous students, and their habits.

This study aims to determine activities of using English classroom greeting expressions in TK Pelita Sari, Desa Mambang, Tabanan, to find out perceptions of teachers and parents regarding development of English language skills at an early stage for the children who are influenced by habituation of this English classroom greeting activity, and to determine the positive value contained in English classroom greeting expressions on formation of children's characters. A qualitative descriptive method was employed using observation sheets and interview guides to children, teachers and parents. The results show that: first, the activity of using the English Classroom Greeting was a routine activity carried out every day by the children; second, teachers and parents perceived that the use of the expressions provided language experience for the children which resulted in positive development in speaking and listening in English. Third, there were two character values that seemed to develop along with the language experience in using English Classroom Expression, namely, friendly / communicative and social respect.

Nowadays, online learning has forced educational stakeholders to sufficiently involve online learning by handling the fundamental difference from traditional learning platforms. While educative interaction is vital but very limited to online learning, the teachers should condition the new environment to enable the learning process. However, educative interaction on online learning requires exact syntax to help the teachers implement it correctly. Therefore, this study aimed to identify the implementation of educative learning on online learning and formulate the syntax to help teachers create educative interaction. The study focused on Islamic and Character Education subjects. The research method is qualitative, using in-depth interviews to gather the data. The informants were from 2 different elementary schools. The study result revealed two types of syntax for educative interaction on online learning: the syntax of educative interaction on real-time chatting app and syntax of educative interaction on the video conference app. Every syntax has similar general phases: preparation, introduction, core, and closing. However, every phase has different details, adjusted to the service provided by the application used. Eventually, the teachers' competence and spirit and supporting infrastructure become the primary factors in maximizing the interaction. Besides, application choice determines the strategy that will be done.

Tal e qual nos livros, trata-se de uma componente da construção
narrativa que altera e modifica os rumos de uma história. Na presente
pesquisa, a observação principal é sobre os personagens do jornalismo esportivo.
Especificamente, jogadores de futebol que participaram da Copa
das Confederações, realizada no Brasil de 15 a 30 de junho de 2013. Para tratar do papel desses personagens na construção de reportagens nesse período, foi utilizada a análise da narrativa, salientando os movimentos do texto em relação aos “atores do discurso”. Na análise, foram separados itens de observação para identificar nuances do processo de construção dessas “pessoas”. Uma conclusão é que, para dar sentido à complexidade dos temas, tendo como limitadores o tempo e o formato que se tem para uma notícia na televisão, o jornalismo esportivo reduz o olhar, rotula e impõe a esses personagens, características que permitem ao telespectador criar imagens subconscientes desses atores que extrapolam suas qualidades
apenas como jogadores de futebol.

The character, similar to literature, where lead actor in a report,
occupies a fundamental role in the journalistic text. Just like in the books, it is a narrative construction component that alters and modifies the course of a story.
In this research, the main observation is about the characters of sports journalism. Specifically, soccer players who participated in the
Confederations Cup, held in Brazil from 15 to 30 June 2013. To address
the role of these characters in building reports in this period, analysis
of the narrative was used, highlighting the text moves in relation to the
“actors of discourse.” In the analysis, observation items were separated to identify nuances of the construction process of these “people”. One conclusion is that to make sense of the complexity of the issues, having as limiting the time and what you have to format a report on television, sports journalism reduces the look, labels and enforces these characters, features that allow the viewer to create subconscious images of these actors that go beyond its qualities just as soccer players.

Character building is the optimum goal of education prescribed by all educational philosophies. A quantitative study, with ex post facto ‘retrospective’ design, was conducted to identify how does religious education affects the moral development of children. The study engaged a sample of 1350 participants from 4 to 15 years of children studying in public schools, madaris and out of school children from the province Punjab. A self-constructed tool, ‘Moral Development Interview Inventory’ was applied to the participants. The study held 3x3 factorial design. The data was analyzed through descriptive and inferential statists. The results revealed age wise ascending differences in the three groups. However, with growing age, public school students left behind the out of school children and that of madaris. At the mid years of 7-11, school going students exhibited better moral reasoning than that of madrasa students and children without education. However, at the age of 11-15, the students having madrasa education exhibited the best increase in moral development than their competitors

Literature is a creative and imaginative work; it records human lives or experiences using a language as its medium. Literary works as a medium rather than a goal or an end in the language instruction will be revealed. There are four language skills to be developed in the process of language instruction. These four language skills are: listening, speaking, and reading as well as writing. This paper will elaborate the aspects: (a) some reasons and strategies for a language educator to utilize the literary works in language learning and teaching, (b) benefits of the various genres of literary works towards the language teaching, (c) using literary works in the teaching of reading and writing, (d) using literary works in teaching listening and speaking, (e) advantages of learning the literary works in nation character building, and (f) suggested activities of the literary work-based teaching language skills for character building.

Resumen El carácter de desempeño constituye un pilar de la educación del carácter imprescindible para la eficacia en cualquier contexto que implique rendimiento. Su reciente inclusión en modelos de educación del carácter, en consonancia con enfoques ecológicos como el desarrollo positivo adolescente, persigue dotar de competencias clave en procesos de adaptación al medio. La aplicación de la educación de carácter en general y del carácter de desempeño en particular al currículo educativo supone un auténtico reto, que encierra en sí mismo importantes beneficios en el aspecto académico y en el desenvolvimiento de la persona en las múltiples facetas de su vida. A este efecto, abogamos por la introducción de la educación del carácter en el currículo académico, especialmente en la etapa adolescente. En la línea con el enfoque de desarrollo positivo adolescente, ello contribuiría a la prevención y a la promoción de múltiples competencias necesarias para desenvolverse en distintas situaciones, con la finalidad de explotar los talentos personales y servir mejor a la sociedad. Abstract The performance character constitutes a pillar of character education for effectiveness in any context that implies performance. Its recent inclusion in character education models, in line with ecological approaches such as positive youth development, seeks to provide key competencies in adaptation processes to the context. The application of character education and particularly performance character to the educational curriculum is a challenge, which contains in itself important benefits in the academic aspect and in the development of the person in the multiple facets of their life. For this purpose, we advocate for the introduction of character education in academic curricula, especially in the adolescent stage. In line with the positive youth development approach, this would contribute to the prevention and promotion of diverse competences. They are necessary to success in different situations, in order to exploit personal talents and better serve society. This study aims to describe the character building in this case using this method based on multimedia to foster the character of student learning in students at Permata Limboto Kindergarten. The method used is to use a research method with a qualitative approach. The results showed that interactive learning is given through interactive CDs in which there are educational games and stories that can form the characters acquired to increase the ability to catch early childhood. Then the characters obtained through multimedia-based learning can show the behavior of these students. The existence of multimedia-based charater building in PAUD can provide stimulus to students so that it can foster children's creativity by doing a variety of anemations, images, colors in the form of computer media displayed on the LCD.

This paper deals with how society and culture may shape us; how some sub-cultures may shape 'others'; how we behave and embody our own worlds replete with models for imitation. Despite this socio-cultural determination, it is assumed in this study that in the process of formation, choice is possible; and that choice is limited. Choice is possible when one is free to choose, that is, when one is able to choose other than the possible range of choices offered by society and culture. I am free to choose my food because I am free to choose other than those offered by McDonalds or KFC or Chowking or Jollibee, etc. because I am free to refuse them and the other range of choices possible. Character formation (and choice) faces limits when the range of choices is narrowed down to what is necessary-more so when one is constrained by mimetic upbringing, one that is largely limited to imitating others' or elders' choices.

This article discusses the analysis of the structural strings in Proverbs 10: 1-5 as the role of parents in the formation of children's character. The purpose of this article is to interpret Proverbs 10: 1-5 and give attention to the bridge of the context of Proverbs 1-9 about the role of parents in forming a child's character. The author uses Wisdom Genre Hermeneutics as a procedure in research, so found 4 major conclusions in making this scientific work. First, the character formation of a child always begins with the role of parents in providing the educational process. The key to affinity Structure Proverbs 10: 1-5 which provides a transition / hinge in the fundamentals of wisdom Proverbs 1-9, giving the author directions that the results of the quality of the wise child cannot be separated from the education of parents. This needs to be known where the process of education in the family also continues to apply in the midst of the life of the Israelites, even in the royal period, especially in the time of his own exile. Second, the role of parents in education seems to be carried out in a balanced manner, namely father and mother. Proverbs 10: 1 explains that the character quality of a child will have consequences for the judgment of a father and mother. The teacher of wisdom is not only to a father, but also to a mother. Therefore, education in the family is carried out by a team, namely father and mother (see Context Proverbs 4: 1; 6:20; etc.). Third, the writer of Proverbs teaches that a child can have wise character qualities. The wise character quality of children is obtained from parental education. Through the study of the author in Proverbs 10: 1-5, wise children are educated in moral teachings that are based on the teachings of God (Old Testament context). In addition, the educational process is also based on good experience of the life of a father and mother, so that a child can imitate the habits / good qualities of his parents, moreover the wise nature emphasized in Proverbs 10: 1-5 is the nature of honesty (v. 3) and perseverance (vv. 4-5) as an identity of a minded person. And fourth, the action or character shown to a child can be an evaluation for parents of the teachings of wisdom that have been conveyed (Band. Teachings of wisdom in Proverbs 10: 1), so that in the future they can teach again the teachings of wisdom for a person children, so that one day they can become wise children.

This paper emphasizes the significance of character for human beings as a result of
the process of education and of social interaction with the its environments. These
environments may be physical or non-physical, including the environment of family,
neighbors and the environment of humans live. In addition, for Prophet Ibrâhîm
as of course obtaining directions from God is more of a significant contribution
in building the character of himself and his sons. This meaning is extracted from
various verses of the Qur'an in a munasabah with an educational approachs. The
characters of Prophet Ibrâhîm as in the Qur'an wich very useful for human beings
these are: attitudes of obedient and submissive to God's command as a prerequisite
for man to dedicate him self to his fellow human beings, his families, and to society
at large on the basis of his devotion to God. The attitudes demand to dare to uphold
truth and justice, to be brave in living and not afraid to fight for the right principles
of life become very important. Being honest is a capital for moral development of the
nation. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a attitude of caring towards themselves
and their environment. Patience attitud is always needed to improve the situation,
as well as polite speech and speech are important to build and understand the
root causes of these conditions. It is also necessary to build a curiousity attitude in
order to generate critical power and depth of knowledge, thoroughly and thoroughly
without forgetting the meaning of ikhlas for the sake of the pleasure of Allah. The
attitudes of praying and tawakkal always become important in achieving success in
world and hereafter.

This activity aims to improve children's understanding of the values in community life and community. In addition, this activity is intended to assist in the creation of the website of the Santa Maria Orphanage (SanMa) Pasang Surut. The method used for 38 children in the orphanage is the giving of materials, the practice of playing together, and the deepening of the material through the movie. The method used for 4 child counselors in the form of website management training. The results of the activities in the form of increased understanding of the values of good and positive characters. In addition, the companion also experienced an increase in knowledge in website management. Character development is always the concern of institutional managers, and will continue in the children's character building program. Orphanage websites have been created and need to be refined further.

This study reports development of peer-counseling on the basis of Islamic boarding school (the-so called pesantren) system. This study used Research & Development design, assigning santris in three pesantrens in East Java: Arekan in Banyuwangi, the Borders in Pasuruan, and Mataraman in Blitar. The study was conducted in two phases: development of training modules and training guides. Data were collected using questionnaires, interviews, observation and documentation. The study revealed: (1) Problems faced by santri are: individual, other, environment, individual-environment, individual-other, environment-other, environment-individual-other. (2) Santri in the age range of adolescents are in a phase of self-searching that is full of hardships and problems. (3) Problems in adherence to activities in pesantren include issues private life, social, learning and ability in adaptability of life pattern of pesantren.

Dalam beberapa tahun terakhir, kondisi ekonomi Indonesia secara makro telah makin membaik. Hal ini terlihat dari angka pertumbuhan ekonomi yang cukup tinggi, ketika banyak negara lain justru mengalami perlambatan pertumbuhan, bahkan sebagian didera krisis yang akut, seperti sejumlah negara di Uni Eropa. Lembaga pemeringkat internasional juga mengakui hal itu, dengan meningkatkan rating Indonesia, yang berarti Indonesia adalah negara yang layak menjadi tujuan investasi.
