Teamwork, collaboration and coordination are key aspects of the patient-centric approach taken by modern healthcare. Although many projects have been and are currently being undertaken to improve support for health care professionals, adequate support for teamwork, communication and coordination has yet to be achieved. The delivery of the healthcare service is very challenging as it involves heterogeneous distributed systems, multi-professionals and dependent tasks among each. In addition, the treatment journey of each patient is unique, as decisions are usually made according to several constraints related to the patient, medical condition, patient’s choice, available resources and\or feedback from doctors’ consultation.
We believe that, in order to provide the required support, it is necessary to explicitly acknowledge the patient’s medical state within their treatment journey. This project proposes the use of a Business Process Management (BPM) system that uses associations between patients, health care professionals, and the Integrated Care Pathway (ICP) to provide improved support for healthcare professionals as individuals and as members of integrated care teams. Moreover, mapping the ICP onto the BPM system will help support the implementation of the best practice according to the national guidelines. By leveraging the information contained in these associations, and understanding the patient progress along the dynamic care pathway this proposal indicates and supports tailored context-based actions. This includes automated notifications, alerts, scheduling and timers as well as support for change management as the patient progresses throughout their treatment journey. Clinicians and developers feedback on this proposal has been very positive.

Author's note: the data for much of this research came from 2006-2016 Annual Reports, and so, arguably, provides a pre-Brexit benchmark against which post-Brexit data can be measured.

Based on observations that the nature of universities in the HE sector in the UK appear to be changing from purely charitable organisations and moving into the business sector two interrelated questions arise which build one on the other. These are:

1. Can ratio analysis of financial KPI be applied to universities in the HE sector in the UK and where appropriate a set of benchmarks extrapolated based upon an average score?
2. Are there other measures of financial KPI specific to the HE sector that can be developed to augment these?

For the purposes of this research a case study comprised of a representative sample of nine universities in the UK was selected from the Russell Group (Table 1.2) because they have a shared vision, mission and set of objectives that should better allow for comparative analysis between them. There are two in Scotland, one in Wales, one in Northern Ireland, and the five highest ranked English universities in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings for 2015-2016.

The case study includes: University of Oxford, University of Cambridge, Imperial College London (ICL), University College London (UCL), The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE&PS), University of Edinburgh, University of Glasgow, Cardiff University, and Queen’s University, Belfast (QUB).

This study looks at the dominant discourses in the news and documentary coverage of the British military in the occupation of Iraq. It is in these discourses that the justification for the war and occupation rests and in this justification lies the interpretation of the function, efficacy and cost of the military. To do this I have examined the genres of news, news and current affairs documentaries and traditional documentaries to see how these genres favour certain discourses and circumstances which allow certain questions to be asked, but resist others. Evidence from the Chilcot Inquiry is used to illustrate what themes and questions have been silenced in the television coverage. The dominant discourse of coverage is that of the suffering, heroic soldier, taking part in a ‘humanitarian’ war, although what this actually entails is not examined in depth. This study reports upon the compositional analysis of early Anglo-Saxon (5th-7th centuries AD) glass beads from the cemetery complex at RAF Lakenheath (Eriswell), Suffolk. Major element analysis was undertaken using energy-dispersive x-ray spectrometry in the scanning electron microscope (SEM-EDS) on 537 samples from a total of 380 monochrome and polychrome beads. Trace element analysis was undertaken by laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LAICP- MS) on 75 different samples from 65 of these beads. SEM-EDS analyses are also reported for a small number of glass beads from the early Anglo-Saxon cemeteries at Spong Hill, Bergh Apton and Morning Thorpe in Norfolk. The beads analysed were produced from soda-lime-silica glass, which was originally made in the Near East from a mixture of a natron and calcareous quartz-rich sand. They have been grouped and compared according to the base glass types represented and their colourant technology. These groups have been systematically compared to a well-established typology and chronology for these beads. The results demonstrate that the Anglo-Saxon glass bead industry was dependent upon the recycling of Roman material during the 5th and 6th centuries, but there is no evidence to suggest continuity in the glass industry from the preceding Roman period. Imported bead types were probably manufactured using a fresh supply of raw glass imported from the Near East. At some point in the latter half of the 6th century there appears to have been a drastic and rapid change in beadmaking practices. The Anglo-Saxon beadmaking industry in England appears to have largely collapsed, except for the production of a few crude bead types produced in the 7th century. Imported bead types come to dominate, but natron glass appears to have been in short supply by this time;

Findings from research studies carried out during 2001-2007 at the University of Portsmouth, UK , with online MSc students using Knowledge Forum ®(KF) software provided impressive evidence of the formation of knowledge building communities (KBC's). Since 2005, as part of studies on the Internet with Web 2.0 environments, research has been carried out with undergraduates using the educational blogging and social networking environment Elgg® , to investigate its potential for learning. Findings from student groups over the two years, 2007-2009, using data from postings, focus groups and interviews, demonstrated that there was also tentative evidence of the formation of a KBC in Elgg®. Interim results from two other investigations, a study carried out in 2008-2009 at the University of Cardiff using the micro-blogging environment Twitter for community formation and learning by professional journalism students, and a recent staff survey at the University of Portsmouth into the personal and professional use of Web 2.0 by lecturers, offer key insights into how such technologies offer a new route to learner collaboration and the possible impact on teaching staff. This paper seeks to draw together findings from all these studies to discuss the implications for the development of educational practices in Higher Education towards a student experience which is rich in authenticity and can lead to knowledge creation and innovation. It will deal explicitly with student demands and expectations, the growing participation culture, aspects of privacy and control in social networking, and the changing role of teachers and lectures, and make recommendations for teacher training and preparing University teachers for cultural change.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) has seen remarkable development in legislation as well as democracy. Indeed, the Kingdom was undergoing new kinds of openness with some local communities that are totally different from what the Kingdom is usually used to. Despite the persistent efforts of Saudi government to achieve sustainable development, the system of urban planning faces significant restrictions in term of deficiency of public involvement in decision making processes, which has substantial implications on urban planning inputs and outputs as well as institutions’ capabilities during implementation stages of developments. Hence, the question of this study was: how could new social media and internet technologies create an efficient tool of communication for public participation in urban development for achieving maintainable development in Saudi Arabia? Nevertheless, it is crucial to understand the current state and predictable future of the participation issue, from the general public perceptions as well as municipality officials’ opinions. This is an interpretive phenomenological study encompassing six focus-group sessions from three categories of age groups of the public from both genders that is 18-30, 31-45, and lastly 46-60, as well as a total of four in-depth, semi-structured dialogs with key municipal officials. Thematic analysis was adopted. One of the more significant findings to emerge from this study is that both municipality device and public perceived the public participation issue in relate to planning affairs as having high importance. Another significant finding is that municipality resource decency and local norms are the key factors of limitation of female participation. Taken together, these findings suggest an innovative and comprehensive approach can promote public participation in the decision- making process. This study will conclude with practical implications which have been developed and classified into; public and Municipality, and citizen municipal council. These recommendations encompass: policies, adoption of information technology, women’s participation issues.

In the last fifteen or so years, a number of film-makers in Italy have used the contemporary phenomeno n of migration to the peninsula both as a means of reflecting on Italian national identity and of setting out the geographical and historical coordinates through which it might be investigated. There has been an attempt to see beyond the apparent novelty of Italy becoming a destination for migrants, in order to investigate parallels with Italy's own history of emigration and indeed colonization. A striking feature of migration patterns to Italy is that most of the new arrivals come from places with which it has no direct historical connection. A notable exception to this is Albania, one of the most significant sending countries, which was invaded by Fascist troops in 1939 and occupied for three years. 1 Unlike most other migrants, many Albanians arrived in Italy with a reasonable knowledge of the Italian language, often, but not exclusively, learned by watching Italian television that was picked up quite easily in the coastal regions at least. 2 Italy's new migrants, regardless of ethnicity or country of origin, have been generally viewed with suspicion, but none more so than those from Albania. Attitudes towards them have not remained constant. When the first Albanians arrived in March 1991, they were met with an 'intenerimento nazionale'. 3 The press recalled the long history that the two nations shared, and a perceived physical similarity between Albanians and Italians proved a key factor underpinning the high hopes for the successful assimilation and integration of these early migrants. This analysis of the martial arts choreography in The Karate Kid (2010) examines the contradictory matrix in which action films produce meanings for global audiences. A remake of a 1984 film, this iteration of The Karate Kid begins its imaginative battle over martial arts turf with English and Chinese titles at odds with one another. For Englishspeaking audiences, the title of the film promises a remake of the popular 1984 story of a displaced Italian American teenager (Ralph Macchio) trained by a Japanese American sensei (Pat Morita) to compete against the local karate bullies. However, the 2010 version has another identity competing with the first. Its Chinese title translates as Kung Fu Dream-Japanese culture, karate, and domestic American class and racial politics out of the picture. In this version, an African American youngster (Jaden Smith) moves to Beijing from Detroit and is taken under the wing of a drunken kung fu master (Jackie Chan) to battle a group of wu shu/san da villains. With the change of choreography comes a shift in the ideological battles taken up by the film's plot providing a different take on race, class, ethnicity, and geopolitics against the backdrop of the 'rise' of China. This essay explores what this shift in martial arts choreography says about the Hollywood, Hong Kong, and Mainland Chinese industries involved in its production. In addition, it explores how fans have come to grips with the depiction of karate, traditional kung fu, PRC-style wu shu, and various screen iterations of a range of martial arts in the film.

This article briefly examines the potential for a sustainability transition in energy in the post-industrial landscape of South Wales. It is based on socio-economic research into hydrogen and fuel cell technologies undertaken for the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council&#39;s (EPSRC&#39;s) Supergen XIV programme (2010-3).

To empower the farmers it is imperative to incorporate right approach to provide agriculture information. So, it is important to increase the level of agriculture development making use of information communication technology (ICT). Several research have been done for development of mobile-based technologies for farmers like use of IoT for field monitoring and irrigation, Krishi Ville, AgroTIC and many more. The Medical Engineering team within the School of Engineering, Cardiff University, delivers two postgraduate programmes of study. Established over 10 years ago, the part-time MSc programmes in Orthopaedic Engineering and Clinical Engineering offer the opportunity of further study while remaining within full-time employment. Both programmes deliver 120 taught credits over two academic years via a series of residential weekends, with successful completion enabling the student to undertake and then defend a 60-credit research dissertation. Fulfilling a specific role on the career pathway for both student cohorts, the strength of each programme is indicated by the consistent number of applicants.
