清凉澄观传记主要有裴休撰《妙觉塔记》和《宋高僧传·澄观传》两种。《妙觉塔记》由裴休撰于澄观圆寂后不久,可信度最高,加之《宋高僧传·澄观传》被斥为"事多错谬",故而愈见唐代塔记之珍贵。然而唐碑已亡,亦无拓本传世,欲直睹唐记完整面目殊为困难。本文基于金泽文库所藏宋观复《华严经大疏玄文随疏演义钞会解记》所引《妙觉塔记》、元普瑞《华严悬谈会玄记》所引《妙觉塔记》《大元重修妙觉塔记》,以及散见于诸文献中的《妙觉塔记》佚文,尝试对唐本《妙觉塔记》进行复原。
