Bangladesh Population Demography Fertility

The  world  is  experiencing  the  dramatic  growth  in
human population from the very beginning. The world
population has exceeded 7 billion on March 12, 2012.
Today the world wide population is 7.2 billion, among
this, 6 billion in less developed countries & another 1.2
billion live in more developed countries. By 2050, the
world’s population is likely to reach an unprecedented
size between 8.3 billion and 10.9 billion people. Where
Bangladesh is a country of 158 million it is going to
experience the burden of 202 million of people by 2050.
But the country has the capacity to support with given
resources a population of about 178 million which will
be  experienced  by  the  year  2020.  With  the  help  of
secondary  data  this  paper will  discuss  the  population
challenges,  policy  rationale,  missing  links  &
implementation strategies to limit the over population
in the context of Bangladesh.

The systematic literature search on the fertility rate was performed on articles from the Web of Science compiled by the Institute of Scientific Information (ISI) to provide major publication characteristics. All articles related to Fertility from year 1980 to 2011 were analyzed with the bibliometric approach using non-parametrics techniques. Total Citation, Citation per year and Cited References were significantly different between the 80’s, 90’s and 2000’s, with more than a 100% increase in the number of publication. The association between number of authors and citation per year were significantly weak. Number of publication in a journal posed a poor negative association with the citation per year. Similarity between Authors Keyword and KeyWords Plus® do not promote the increase in citation per year. This study aims at examining women’s participation in workplace and its impact on their fertility behaviour. The study utilizes data collected from various workplaces in Sylhet city, Bangladesh through a stratified random sampling. The size of the total population was 267 and total sample size was 120 that covered 45% of the population. Here univariate and bivariate (cross-tabulation) analyses are used. This study analysed data collected from a total of 120 respondents. Among them 53 (44.2%) were high school teachers, 39 (32.5%) were bankers and 28 (23.3%) were college teachers. Most of them (75.9%) expected 2 children and 10% expected only 1 child. 88.3% respondents participated in family planning practices. Most of them (95.0%) could take part in decision-making regarding child taking. In bivariate analyses, it was found that number of children was significantly associated with their level of education, type of occupation and amount of income. Also this revealed that respondents’ level of education was negatively associated with their number of children. It is mentionable that women’s participation in work has a negative association with fertility. Therefore the study suggests opportunities of education for women and extended participation in workplace are necessary for reducing fertility rate.

At the same time, however, there will be an increasing number of old people. Demographic changes pose a new challenge for ministries, public institutions, the private sector and civil society in our partner countries. It is well observed that the rapid changes are occurring in the Demographic Characteristics of the workforce in the world as there is no gender, religion or ethnic discrimination. So, wide range of the workforces are now leading with managerial and professional jobs and all of them are having  same facilities & benefits with out any discrimination of gender, color, culture etc.  Therefore, organizations are now going for diversity management a central component of their policies and practices.
