Ecosystem Services, 2014
Despite increased intellectual and conceptual consideration of the linkages between ecosystem service (ES) provisions and poverty alleviation (PA) globally, there has been limited analysis of how these paradigms are used and framed in the regional context of policy-making. In this paper, we address this question by eliciting perspectives on the historical evolution of policies addressing the environment and poverty nexus in the Brazilian Amazon. Our analysis is twofold. First, through an analysis of policy context, we explore how multilateral and international programs have influenced and helped shape national and regional policy-making in the Amazon. Second, through our analysis of policy content, we provide an in-depth discussion of key ES and/or PA policies implemented in the Amazon. Furthermore, we analyze the operationalization of the policy, describe management options, and highlight their impacts on ES and PA. Our results show dichotomies between environmental programs and their social effectiveness, and between environmental and developmental agendas. More recently, however, some attempts have been made at delivering ES protection and PA jointly in policy-making. In conclusion, we provide a framework for policy analysis that can be applied to other tropical countries in the world. If Brazil is to keep its leading role in addressing the challenges of maintaining ecosystem service provision, while alleviating poverty in the Amazon, it must learn from its own experiences.

With its capture at the outset of the conquest of Iran in the early seventh century, the imperial Sāsānian standard, known as the Derafsh-e kāviyān (derafsh kavian, derafsh kaviani, etc.) became a metaphor for imperial corruption, underscoring both the righteousness of the Islamic caliphate and the piety of the Arab-Muslim warriors who founded it. Two centuries later, it served as a potent symbol of pre-Islamic Persian splendor and the continuity of its rich tradition. Later still, modern Iranian nationalists raised the "banner of Kāveh" as part of their campaign to foster a sense of national consciousness and pride in the country's ancient heritage. Today, the Derafsh-e kāviyān continues to be a powerful symbol for secular Iranian nationalists campaigning against the Islamic Republic of Iran; for Kurdish nationalists seeking political autonomy; and for Tajik state authorities linking their nation to a mythical past.
As organizations in recent years continue to increase their investment into the advancements of technology to upsurge productivity and efficiently, more and more companies begin to realize that protecting of this technology is just as significant (Information Security), if not; even more important in order to protect their reputation and integrity as a company. This paper provides a comprehensive high-level view of ethical hacking, such as what it is, what it entails, and why companies hack into their own technology. Additionally, counter measures including penetration testing and real-world examples will be examined to give the reader a better understanding of ethical hacking and why it’s such an essential element of Information Security in the Information Systems/Technology field.

INTRODUCTION Reading is a highly refined skill that encompasses two main components: decoding graphic symbols and understanding the written message. These aspects generally develop together, but reading comprehension is a much more complex process, sustained not only by the identification of written words and vocabulary but also by language systems, such as syntax and general knowledge. Although there is a well-established technique for performing the phoniatric assessment, there is no common use of tests that assess reading comprehension or the association of this information with other assessment data. OBJECTIVE The objective of this study is, in the context of the phoniatric consultation, to evaluate the reading and retelling in children with relevant reading difficulties and to correlate the decoding and comprehension problems with the alterations observed in auditory and visual perceptual tests, pointing out the evidence that best contributed to the differential diagnosis of th...

It is obvious that in the last decades important efforts have been made to orientate the teaching-learning activities towards differentiation and individualization. Also, empiric researches have been carried out to prove the advantages of a differentiated and individualized education compared to the traditional education, which, in most of the cases, still remains a collective or frontal type of education. Approaches have been made for training the teachers who would possess the necessary skills for the good organization of the differentiated and individualized teaching, and great efforts have also been made for the learning institutions' modernization and endowment, so that they would meet the demands required by the differentiated and individualized teaching. Despite all these advantages and positive followings attached to the differentiated and individualized teaching, we should not bet on a single card and consider that the efficiency of the whole instructive-educative process can be obtained only by the obsessive promotion of the debated modalities. Being aware of the risks of such one-dimensional approach, we will try to show in this paper how good results in mathematics learning can be obtained, if this subject benefits from a correct differentiation and individualization.
