The paper delves into the intrinsic connection between music and psychology, exploring the natural human inclination towards music, its developmental benefits from the womb stage through adulthood, and the physiological, neurological, and emotional effects of music on human life. It examines both the positive influences of music on well-being, language skills, and memory, as well as its potential for manipulative purposes, highlighting music's dual role in psychological and emotional contexts.
This paper discusses the role and conjoint uses of Indian music therapy and brain pathology to combat head injuries like stroke, speech impairment, Epilepsy, dementia etc. It promotes and incorporates Indian singing/vocal interventions even to deal with speaking and communicating difficulties which is caused due to brain minor issue. Appropriate uses of music not only heal physically but also helps one at the psychological level enhancing their self-esteem, confidence and carefreeness. Important case studies and experiments are also including in this paper to represent evidences.
The idea of music as a healing tradition in India is age old. The field of Music therapy has gained a plethora of recognition and momentum since almost more than a decade and is now being utilized as a variety of clinical settings. Apart from dealing with the mental issues like depression, anxiety, stress, music therapy has provided a phenomenal and helpful treatment for faster cognition even after the serious brain disorders. The brain function physically changes in response to music. The rhythm can guide into breathing in slower, deeper patterns that produces a calming effect. Heart rate and blood pressure also gets effected with the related musical intervention. Indian classical music incorporates certain techniques of vocalization and articulation which involves pranayama or deep breathing exercises. These techniques are beneficial for oxygenating the body, further helping in combatting the neurological disorders in children and adults.
Update: Applications of Research in Music Education, 2002
This article reports the results of a three-arm mixed methods pilot study of music therapy with premature infants and their caregivers in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in Bogotá, Colombia. The study included 19 medically stable babies born between the 30th and 37th week of gestation and their caregivers. Two intervention groups were compared with a control group. The objectives were to find out whether music therapy could help the neonates stabilize their physiological states and help mothers to reduce anxiety and strengthen the relationship with their baby. The data collection included the babies´weight gain, heart rate, oxygen saturation, size, cephalic perimeter and length of hospitalization. Mothers filled out the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI-C) and the Mother-to-Infant Bonding Scale (MIBS) before the first and after the last intervention. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the qualitative data obtained through questionnaires. A trend towards an increased weight gain for both intervention groups and a shorter length of hospitalization for one of the intervention groups was noticed. Anxiety and bonding in mothers appears not to follow linear trends, as new challenges arise for parents at different stages during hospitalization. Mothers stated that music therapy was helpful for them, their baby, and their relationship with the baby. Mothers across the groups think that music therapy should offered regularly in the NICU and that music therapy helps to humanize the NICU environment.
ABSTRACT: The research study involved sixty one (61) respondents (20 male and 41 females) Convenience sampling was used to select the respondents. All of the respondents are students of Systems Plus College Foundation taking up the subject General Psychology in which the researcher Prof. Pelayo was their instructor. Average age of the respondents is 18 years old. Based on the gathered data, all of the respondents enjoyed the music. They all wanted the music to continue in the student lounge and they all recommend it will be useful to other institutions as well. Although more research should be done about this topic, the researcher may infer that this type of music relaxes the students and creates an environment that could be beneficial to college students while they relax, review, read or research.

Listening preferences for two pieces, Prelude and Forlane from Le tombeau de Couperin by Maurice Ravel (1875Ravel ( -1937, were assessed in two experiments conducted with 8-month-old infants, using the Headturn Preference Procedure (HPP). Experiment 1 showed that infants, who have never heard the pieces, could clearly make a distinction between the Prelude and Forlane when the latter are played in multiple (i.e. orchestral) but not single (i.e. piano) timbres. In Experiment 2 infants were exposed repeatedly to one of the two piano pieces over a 10-day period. Concurrent with previous studies, results suggested that babies can recognize a familiar piece after a 2-week delay. Implications for early childhood music education are outlined at the end of the article.
