The URL for the TheSu XML Schema Definition is https://alchemeast.eu/thesu/ns/1.0/TheSu.xsd. To associate this schema with your XML file, start by creating a 'thesu:TheSu' root element. Then, include in this element the following attributes: <thesu:TheSu xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://alchemeast.eu/thesu/ns/1.0 https://alchemeast.eu/thesu/ns/1.0/TheSu.xsd" xmlns:thesu="http://alchemeast.eu/thesu/ns/1.0"> </thesu:TheSu> This software was developed as part of two research projects. From 2018 to 2022, as part of Alchemy in the Making: From Ancient Babylonia via Graeco-Roman Egypt into the Byzantine, Syriac, and Arabic Traditions, acronym AlchemEast. The AlchemEast project has received funding from the European Research Council (ERC) under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme (G.A. 724914). From 2022 to 2023, as part of Not Another History of Platonism: The Role of Aristotle’s Criticisms of Plato in the Development of Ancient Platonism, acronym PlatoViaAristotle. The PlatoViaAristotle project has received funding from the European Research Council (ERC) under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme (G.A. 885273). For effective navigation of this documentation, it is advisable to start with the 'TheSu' element, the root element of a TheSu document. Following this, attention should be directed towards the 'THESIS', 'SUPPORT', and 'PROPOSITION' elements, as they are the most significant. It is recommended to explore their attributes, children, and descendant elements subsequent to reviewing their respective definitions. Graphical conventions: • opening and closing apostrophes ['example'] signal the name of an XML or HTML element; • opening and closing apostrophes delimiting a string starting with the at sign ['@example'] signal the name of an XML attribute; • opening and closing quotation marks ["example"] can signal a. an attribute value, b. a freeform interpretation of an attribute value, c. an element as characterized by the value of one of its attributes or of one of its prominent descendant elements' attributes (e.g. "base edition" as referred to a 'bibliographyRef' whose '@baseEdition' is specified as "true", or "argumentative" as referred to a 'SUPPORT' whose descendant 'argumentation' has a '@rank' value superior to that of its siblings in the highest ranking 'supportFunctionsGroup'), d. a quotation; • rightwards arrow between two element names ['example' → 'example'] signals that the element on the right is a child of the element on the left; ◦ Note: This schema differentiates among the action verbs 'must', 'should', 'may', and 'can', in relation to the annotator's tasks. 'Must' indicates both the mandatory elements and attributes that are enforced by the XSD rules and those critical features that, while essential for the annotation, may not be automatically enforced. Conversely, 'should' is used to recommend best practices that are advisable but not obligatory. 'May' and 'can', on the other hand, lean towards neutrality, simply indicating available options without a strong recommendation or preference. Latest updates: [2023.11.23 Daniele Morrone; v. 0.96] Added human-readable definitions to almost all elements and attributes for annotating processual theses. Also made extensive fixes, integrations, and redesigns for a more accurate alignment with the intended logic. [2022.07.11 Daniele Morrone; v. 0.90] Added elements and attributes for the annotation of processual theses. [2022.06.22 Daniele Morrone; v. 0.72] Bug fix and small integrations. [2022.05.15 Daniele Morrone; v. 0.72] Corrected typos and spelling mistakes. [2021.12.27 Daniele Morrone; v. 0.72] Re-modelled the 'proof' complexType on the basis of 'includedRef' and re-defined 'marker' elements as restrictions of this complexType only allowing for 'locusRef'. [2021.12.01 Daniele Morrone] TheSu documentation version 0.70 completed. Roadmap to version 1.00: ✗ Adding all the missing human-readable elements' and complexTypes' definitions ✗ Integrating several planned miscellaneous changes and improvements into the scheme ✗ Re-evaluating the logic of the distinction between complexTypes and elements ✗ Revising all the human-readable definitions to refer more generally to "data" in primary sources rather than "text", to structurally allow for multimedial TheSu annotations ✗ Expanding the TheSu documents' metadata (allowing to include information on e.g. the annotators who worked on them). Plans for future versions: ✗ Improving the integration of the TheSu documents' metadata with already-existing metadata in different formats (e.g. RDF); ✗ Adding in-code examples to the documentation of each element and attribute in the XSD.
