This is a mish-mash of photos from various days and walks to the lake, on the fire road, a few of my yard birds and a visit with our son's family.

1. Our walk to the lake, it was a warm day.  It was nice to see the turtles out sunny themselves on a log.

2. A larger look at the Slider Turtles, they are always fun to see.

3. During our walks to the lake, we have seen the Canada Geese hanging in this same spot multiple times.

4. The Downy Woodpecker is a daily visitor to my yard, it also enjoys the suet nuggets.

5. The White-throated Sparrow is a winter bird that enjoys the suet nuggets I put out for my yard birds.  One day I saw a female Pine Warbler grabbing a few nuggets, I was sorry I missed getting a photo.

6. We saw the Brown Creeper during one of our walks on the local fire road.

7. One day we had lunch with our son and his family and enjoyed watching our grandsons playing on their new playset. The Grand-dogs enjoyed being out in the yard with us all.

8. A puzzle I completed in early March, the undersea life, the colorful fish are so pretty.

Saturday's Critters # 531

My latest trip has been to my archives. I usually prepare several post in advance so I will always be a month or so behind.  At this time, Hubby and I have not been anywhere special due to the super cold weather or the rain/snow days. So I went back and visited previous posts, taking photos from the past 5 years during the month of February. Photos are of some of my favorite places, birds and critters.

From a February 2019 post, I was reporting on our Florida trip and visit to the Green Cay Preserve. In the mosaic are the Painted Buntings, Swamphen, a Tricolored Heron, Little Blue Heron, Palm Tree, Purple Gallinule, Green Heron, Glossy Ibis and a Pied billed Grebe. Florida is one of my favorite places for birdwatching.

Also a few more photos from our Green Cay Nature Center are the American Bittern and below is the Green Heron.

Also from Green Cay are my favorite Florida Bird, the Painted Bunting, seen below with a female Painted Bunting.

Another bird seen at the Green Cay Nature Center are the Wood Storks, their nest were right next to the boardwalk.

From my February 2020 post, I am sharing some of my favorite back yard birds: the Eastern Bluebirds, Downy Woodpecker, American Goldfinch, more Goldfinches with a House Finch, another Male Bluebird, a Dark-eyed Junco, a White-throated Sparrow, male Downy Woodpecker and a Carolina Wren.

From Feb 2020, one of my all time favorite birds is the Eastern Bluebird. I feel lucky when they choose one of my birdhouses for their nest.

From a February 2021 post, I have one of my favorite woodpeckers, in my yard is the Pileated Woodpecker.

From my post in February 2022,  we were dog sitting for our son while his house was being built. 8 months of watching our grand-dogs Nibbles and Winnie at our house. They enjoyed their walks to the lake and on the fire roads. Also in the mosaic are Eastern Bluebirds and the lake.

From February 2023, we were excited to see my lifer the Golden Eagle in our area at the Prettyboy reservoir. It hung around for a few weeks.

Here is a larger view of the Golden Eagle. This Eagle is a dark brown with golden brown plumage on the nape.  The Golden Eagle is a beautiful raptor.

More local birds, backyard butterflies and blooms and the grand-dogs. Our son's fence is supposed to be done this week, as I type this the dogs could be home or heading home.

1. Aug 25th,  a walk with the grand-dogs and some of our backyard blooms, birds and butterflies.

2. Aug 25th, flowers on our deck and around the yard. A male Ruby-throated hummingbird is showing off his pretty ruby necklace.

3. Aug 25th , a larger image of the Ruby-throated Hummingbird. I am seeing 4-5 hummingbirds zooming around our yard and coming to the feeders.

4. Three butterfly species, the Swallowtail, Monarch and a Fritillary seen on our Lantana plant.

5. Aug 26th, I noticed this Tennessee Warbler from our kitchen window. I think it was eating bugs that are on the butterfly bush.

6. Aug 26th, I am seeing lots of Black Swallowtail butterflies and just one Monarch at our Lantana plant.

7.  Aug 26th, a mosaic with various captures of the Tennessee Warbler hopping around our butterfly bushes catching bugs to eat.

8. Aug 26th, it is molting season and the Cardinals are looking a little ragged.

I hope you enjoyed my birds, butterflies and our cute grand-dogs.

Our local walks continue, some photos are from our back yard and some from our fire road walks.

1. Aug 18th, the grand-dogs are still with us. We are waiting for our son to have a fence built on his new property. The fence may happen next week, we may see an end to our dog-sitting soon. So for now we continue our walks with the dogs on the fire road and to the lake.

2. Aug 18th , at the local lake a couple of the slider turtles perched on a tree limb sticking out of the lake.

3. Aug 18th, back at home from my kitchen window I noticed this small deer standing on the driveway.

4. Aug 19th, summer is flying by and I have been enjoying all the butterflies at our Buddleia Bush. Below are the Monarch, Eastern Tiger Swallowtail and the Black Swallowtail.

5. Aug 20th, hubby and I took our walk on the local NCR bike trail at Bentley Springs. along the trail we heard and saw a few birds, some pretty wildflowers, shadows on the Bee Tree Run.

6. Aug 24th, another walk just with hubby on a different section of the NCR trail in Parkton. We saw a doe with triplets, I could only capture one of the fawns. The Cardinal flowers were in bloom and some other wildflowers. We saw a group of White-breasted Nuthatches in the trees along side the trail.

7. Aug 24th, on the way home from our walk on the NCR trail we stopped at the local food store and rode by the Friendly Farm ponds on the way home. We saw one Great Egret in one pond the other pond there were lots of Canada Geese.

Some times I catch some birds in my yard or just outside my yard. We are surrounded by trees, I can hear the birds so I know they are close by.

1. A mosaic of my Northern Flicker, Northern Mockingbird and a Dark-eyed Junco.

2. From my kitchen window I watched two Northern Flickers at the end of our driveway. One disappeared behind the car, but this one was pecking at something on the ground.

3. The Northern Mockingbird hangs around the yard, it is finding berries to eat.

4. Below the Dark-eyed Junco showed up in the same bush as the Mockingbird.

5. The twigs and branches are always getting in the way, I had a small group of Dark-eyed Juncos finding food around the yard.

6.  In the woods across from our driveway, I watched this hawk sitting in a tree. I am pretty sure I saw it's red tail as it flew to the ground. Then I lost it among all the trees and branches.

7. Besides hearing a Belted Kingfisher, I saw a nice size group of Canada Geese at our lake.

8. Canada Geese at Prettyboy Reservoir.

9. Grand-dogs Winnie and Nibbles enjoy their walks to the lake and on the fire roads.

10. Back at home, Nibbles and Winnie want some play time.

My Grand-dogs are the only critters I have been seeing lately. I do hear some birds on our local walks with the dogs. A small group of Tufted Titmouse were fussing at us from their perches above our heads.  My yard birds have just disappeared.

1. I have found a good use for the hair my grand-dog sheds. Below the archived photo is a Tufted Titmouse grabbing my old dog Goldie Girl's hair for a nest.  The Titmouse has a mouthful of dog hair.

2. From my archives, a closeup of a Tufted Titmouse.

These images below are all from my archives, birds seen during the month of February 2019 through Feb 2022.

3. A backyard male Eastern Bluebird.

4. A backyard American Goldfinch.

5. A group of Yellow-rumped Warblers seen Feb 2021 in Assateague Island Md.

6. Feb 2021, our backyard Pileated Woodpecker

7. Feb 2020 At the Prettyboy reservoir, A Bald Eagle perched in a tree not too far from the nest.

8. Feb 7, 2022 a morning walk with Nibbles and Winnie on the fire road and to the lake.

This post was a mish-mash, archived photos of some of my favorite birds and my grand-dogs Nibbles and Winnie.
