Calvert Cliffs State Park

Hello and happy Monday

I am sharing some images from our visit to Calvert Cliffs State Park, located on Maryland's Western Shore. The park has 13 miles of trails, a sandy beach where you can search for fossils, fresh water and tidal marsh lands. The cliffs and shoreline are on the Chesapeake Bay, I enjoyed the views of the bay, a nearby lighthouse, hundreds of dragonflies and turtles. We saw a Belted Kingfisher, frogs, lizards  and the Red-headed Woodpecker.

A wet section of the Red trail  through the marshland to the beach and cliffs.

A Five-lined Skink

A Belted Kingfisher hanging out at the marshland.

Red-headed Woodpecker seen on a dead tree at the marshland.

There were hundreds of waterlilies on the marshes.

Cove Point Lighthouse, Chesapeake Bay in Calvert County Maryland

A view toward the Cliffs at Calvert Cliffs beach.

Me and my shadow hubby!

I was asked a lot on my previous post about beaver and being warned to look for the beaver. The beaver den is right next to the trail. Beavers have been known to attack people if they feel threatened.

I believe this is the Eastern Amberwing dragonfly.

A guide to the Fossils that can be found on the beach at Calvert Cliffs.

Boat with crab  cages?

A look across the bay to Maryland's Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay.

A lineup of Terns, possibly Osprey and Cormorants?

Thanks for your visit today!  I hope you enjoyed my post and photos.

Thanks to the hosting team of Our World Tuesday!

I hope to see you there. Thanks to the host today. Enjoy your day and new week.

As always I thank you for stopping by and as always I appreciate your comments.

13 miles!

Boy could I get pleasantly lost. I get lost everywhere I go. My wife can't let me out of her sight at Walmart.

Love your shots.

Good day to you, Eileen. These are more of your well documented critters (and scenery). Thanks for identifying them. Guess the beavers were napping when you stopped by! Barb

I think the woodpecker is playing pi pi with you and us... that walkway is one I would not be able to walk on, I get dizzy without a rail, I have not seen any like this here. every boardwalk has railings and are much higher than this one, it is beautiful

There! I have caught up Reading all your blogposts, tho I did not comment on each... I am so behind, and just cannot keep up with comments! I have enjoyed coming along with you on your outings... I haven't been out in many weeks, due to the deluge of biting insects from the constant rain! So I am living vicariously thru your nature walks! From Ospreys to a Blue-gray Gnatcatcher! And potential Beavers, and frogs, lighthouses, rivers, gorges, gorgeous sunsets... Thank you for sharing so much with us! I truly appreciate it! Hugs!

I have to admit that I wondered about your beaver warning! I thought the only problem with them is the flooding they can cause with their dams!

Beautiful part of your country! The lighthouse is lovely. What a coincidence: I saw beavers last Saturday... we visited a zoo not far from home. Have a nice week ahead!

Looks like a wonderful place to visit. The waterlilies are beautiful. I would enjoy having some of those fresh crabs.

A great walk, beautiful scenery and great birds ...those are definitely crab cages or crab pots as we call them. We used to go crabbing on the Oregon Coast and noticed when we went ‘up East’ that they used the same kind of traps even if they are different kind of crabs. .. Thank you for the info about beavers! I had no idea.

Lovely post. I’ve heard about hunting fossils there. It’s famous for sharks teeth.
