The new finding aids and databases of images use technologies in digital imaging and document preservation, resulting in more efficient and more extensive access to library materials than currently available, as well as the protection of fragile and aging materials. From our experience with these projects, the authors believe that the new technologies present both challenges and opportunities for library professionals and, more important, will enable libraries and archives to continue traditional professional activities in new guises. The essay below summarizes the transcript of our original extemporaneous presentation.

Partnerships between public universities and faith-based institutions, however, have sometimes lagged because public universities have yet to appreciate ways in which their public missions align with those of local faith-based organizations. This paper examines the partnership established between a large, urban-identified, public research university and one of its campus ministries to implement a servant leadership model and asset-based community development methodology designed to enable the university community to work collaboratively, recognize their own and others' gifts and talents, and improve their own broadly-defined diverse communities. This research shows that through a servant leadership framework, faith can inform and enact this public mission to create active and engaged citizens. The asset-based partnership model shows promise for realizing the intersecting missions of faith partners and public higher education institutions, which can be replicated in with other institutions.

The bulk of the DLP’s funding comes from the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) federal program, but in 1997 the Library received a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to catalog and digitize the Virginia Historical Inventory Project (VHI). After an introduction to the DLP and VHI, this article will discuss the costs and benefits of creating the online version and will compare the one‐time development cost and subsequent delivery of the digital resource to the long‐term costs and benefits of providing access to these materials via traditional means.

In this regard, Walmart's location strategy includes stores located in or near urban centers. The company's aim is to maximize market reach. Materials and goods are made available to the company's target consumers through strategic warehouse locations. To address the business information aspect in this decision area of operations management, Walmart uses the Internet. The company has a comprehensive set of online information systems for real-time reports and monitoring. Thus, Walmart's main concern in this decision area is on the location of stores and related facilities (Nathaniel Smithson, 2017). Co-location Tendencies: Several studies have looked at colocation tendencies of stores. Of all the competitor pairs, just three exhibit statistically significant clustering. Target & Walmart; Starbucks and Dunkin' Donuts; McDonalds & Burger King all exhibit very strong tendencies to co-locate. (Ken Steif, 2013). Target & Walmart have a tendency to co-locate in a similar area because they are each targeting the same size markets and not because of any agreement that they have with one another. The demographic profiles of their customers differ. Many Walmart Supercenters have featured McDonald's restaurants, but in 2007, Walmart announced it would stop opening McDonald's restaurants at most of their newer stores, most likely due to nutritional concerns. Most locations that opened up after the announcement had Subway as their restaurants, and some McDonald's inside the stores were replaced with Subways (James Covert, 2008). In some Canadian locations, Tim Hortons were opened. Recently, in several Supercenters, like the Tallahassee, Florida location, Walmart added Burger King to their locations, and the location in Glen

Furthermore, groups in the field have begun to develop best practices in areas such as digitization and metadata architecture. However, other areas have been less discussed, namely the organizational and management issues that digital libraries must address. These issues include staffing, collaboration among departments or institutions, budgeting, and the strategies that digital libraries use to ensure long-term sustainability for projects. Panelists in this session will discuss the strategies that they have used to meet the organizational and management needs of their digital library projects.
