A two-dimensional model to investigate the pattern of current in estuary of Banyuasin has been de... more A two-dimensional model to investigate the pattern of current in estuary of Banyuasin has been developed. The properties of tide, wind, and current were measured to understand the dynamics of estuarine environment. Based on the information, the model of current simulation were performed. The simulation of model shows that offshore flow during flood tide and inland flow during ebb tide. Maximum current speed was recorded during mean-sea-level towards high tide of 0.8716 m/s, while the minimum was 0.0661 m/s observed during ebb tide. The difference current speed between model and recorded is 0.04 m/s.
Thermal dispersion model based on the hydrodynamics model was applied on PLTGU Cilegon (electric ... more Thermal dispersion model based on the hydrodynamics model was applied on PLTGU Cilegon (electric power industry based on gas and steam) at the coast of Margasari, Pulo Ampel District, Serang-Banten. This PLTGU used around 60.000 m3/hour of seawater as cooling water system. Therefore, it produced water with high temperature of about 5 oC higher than the sourounding of seawater temperature. This high water temperature was flowed out into the coastal waters. This study tried to predict their distribution according to southeast and northeast monsoon. Model verification was conducted both to hydrodynamics component (tide and current) and water temperature. The verification results show good enough patterns between the model results and field measurement.

The aim of this study was to analyze the distribution of bottom sediments in estuary of Banyuasin... more The aim of this study was to analyze the distribution of bottom sediments in estuary of Banyuasin. Sediment sampling conducted in February 2007 using Bottom Grab Sampler (Peterson Grab) in 40 stations. Sediment statistic method was used to analyze sediment distribution. The results indicated that sediment distribution in estuary of Banyuasin generally was dominated by small size namely silt, sorting was poorly and moderately sorted; skeweness was almost symmetrical. Based on mean grain size of sediment, obtained an indication that the energy of motion of water in the estuary of the Musi and Upang much higher than estuary of the Saleh and Banyuasin, so silt fraction always in the form of suspension.

Penelitian tentang kaitan antara aktivitas vulkanik dengan distribusi sedimen dan kandungan suspe... more Penelitian tentang kaitan antara aktivitas vulkanik dengan distribusi sedimen dan kandungan suspensi di lakukan di sekitar Perairan Selat Sunda pada bulan November 2008 dengan menggunakan kapal Baruna Jaya VIII -LIPI. Hasil analisa menunjukkan bahwa sedimentasi di perairan Selat Sunda sangat dipengaruhi oleh aktivitas vulkanik Krakatau dan pengaruh daratan akibat masukkan dari sungai Ciliman dan Cibungur. Hal ini ditunjukkan dengan hasil yang didapatkan pada pengukuran di stasiun titik pengamatan 6 yang ditunjukkan dengan adanya sedimen lempung yang disisipi oleh lapisan pasir. Analisa tersebut didukung dengan data kandungan suspensi yang terlihat pada titik pengamatan 6 mempunyai nilai suspensi yang cukup besar yaitu sekitar 25 gr/l dan stasiun pengamatan 7 sekitar 19 gr/l.
