C’est une histoire subie, l’héritage des développements antérieurs, mais c’est aussi une histoire transmise, une mémoire collective activement entretenue.Cette thèse examine le rôle de la mémoire collective dans la création des paysages et des territoires de la Protohistoire européenne (fin IIIe – Ier millénaire av. n. e.). Quatre études sont présentées, portant sur deux zones spécifiques, l’une dans le Bassin parisien (interfluve Seine-Yonne) et l’autre au bord de la mer Adriatique (presqu’île d’Istrie et baie du Kvarner).Les études sont regroupées dans deux thématiques majeures. La première porte sur les ancrages mémoriels, en l’occurrence les nécropoles. Comment entretient-on ces lieux de mémoire, dans quel but ? Il s’agit de comprendre non seulement leur emploi pour la commémoration du passé ancestral, mais aussi leur rôle dans la constitution du temps social.La seconde thématique se focalise sur le territoire en tant qu’institut...

Settlement patterns and path networks represent different but connected perspectives on human-env... more Settlement patterns and path networks represent different but connected perspectives on human-environment interaction through movement, manifested through the appropriation and organisation of landscape by societies. Settlement patterns and path networks evolve with unharmonized temporalities, but in constant interaction which render the territorial studies very challenging. Remote sensing, GIS and 3D modeling have greatly contributed to our knowledge and understanding of movement as encapsulated in routes, but the methods employed make it difficult to connect with theories of engagement through travel. Pragmatically, it is difficult to integrate LiDAR-detected traces of pathways, which conflate temporalities, with network analysis techniques and settlement pattern analysis which focus on changing patterns over time. Izvorni znanstveni rad Original scientific paper UDK 904:712>(497.5-37 Buje)«652« Predstavljeni s... more Izvorni znanstveni rad Original scientific paper UDK 904:712>(497.5-37 Buje)«652« Predstavljeni su rezultati sustavnoga terenskog pregleda na prostoru Bujštine te potom njihova prostorna analiza u kontekstu istraženoga područja. Prethodno analizi razmotreni su problemi nastanka površinskoga arheološkog zapisa, odnosno dobivenoga skupa podataka. Na temelju jednostavne tipologije nalazišta (dva tipa) provjerena je njihova prostorna korelacija i raspored. Također su razmotrene mogućnosti rekonstrukcije pružanja jedne lokalne prometnice te teritorijalnih odnosa dokumentiranih naseobina. Pozornost je posvećena i nalazima izvan nalazišta.

U radu se analizira metodologija sustavnog terenskog pregleda na primjeru istraživanja u sjeveroz... more U radu se analizira metodologija sustavnog terenskog pregleda na primjeru istraživanja u sjeverozapadnoj Istri. Predstavljene su metode pregleda na otvorenom te topografskog snimanja gradinskih nalazista. Razmotren je uspjeh u detekciji nalazista, problem slabije zastupljenih povijesnih razdoblja i tumacenje nalaza izvan nalazista. Također je razmotren potencijal rezultata za razumijevanje složenijih povijesnih procesa. U zakljucku je dan osvrt na siri metodoloski kontekst istraživanja.

Dans cette contribution, nous presenterons l’etude de la necropole de Crveni Vrh (Monterosso) pre... more Dans cette contribution, nous presenterons l’etude de la necropole de Crveni Vrh (Monterosso) pres de Savudrija (Croatie), et notamment son insertion dans le paysage culturel au niveau visuel. Une analyse de visibilite est mise en place, qui s’appuie sur un calcul de la taille apparente (angulaire). Ensuite, une lecture des resultats de l’analyse est proposee, reposant sur les notions de strategies d’exposition ou de dissimulation de differents sites ou structures dans le paysage.

This paper analyzes the methodology of systematic field survey on the case study of northwestern ... more This paper analyzes the methodology of systematic field survey on the case study of northwestern Istria. The field research methodology was based upon intensive field survey and topographic survey of hillfort sites. The analysis of the obtained results is focused on estimation of the success in detecting different types of sites while the problem of under-representation of historical periods and the interpretation of offsite finds are also discussed. The resulting potential for understanding complex historical processes is also considered. The conclusion provides an overview of the wider research context and the applicability of the survey methodology.

Th e results of test excavations conducted at the medieval Dubovac Castle near Karlovac are prese... more Th e results of test excavations conducted at the medieval Dubovac Castle near Karlovac are presented in this work. Emphasis is placed on analysis of the prehistoric material, which largely dates to the fi rst half of the fi rst millennium BC and, to a lesser extent, from the fourth millennium BC. Th e stratigraphy of the site is presented together with typological and statistical analysis of the pottery. Th e researched portion of the site is situated on a conical, naturally formed mound that was also considerably shaped by human activity. Th e structures from the prehistoric period are mostly traces of habitats. An older, stone-built phase of the castle was also discovered which has not been reliably dated. Among the ceramic material, stylistic analogies were ascertained with the wider sphere of sites of the fi nal phase of the Bronze Age and the onset of the Iron Age, particularly in the Danube and Drava River zones. Based on the statistical analysis, certain technological traditions of pottery production have been distinguished. Particular attention was dedicated to the problem of the transition from the Bronze to the Iron Age in the Kupa river zone, given the discovered artefacts.

Nedestruktivno arheološko istraživanje poluotoka Sipra odvijalo se usporedo sa sustavnim terenski... more Nedestruktivno arheološko istraživanje poluotoka Sipra odvijalo se usporedo sa sustavnim terenskim pregledom umaške okolice u studenom i prosincu 2008., dok je naknadno (u veljači 2009.) teren geodetski i pokusno geof zički izmjeren. Istraživanje je osmišljeno kao sustavno prikupljanje nalaza u mreži kvadranata i tzv. strukturni pregled: detaljno bilježenje svih površinski vidljivih struktura i tvorevina. Voditelj terenskog pregleda bio je Boris Magdić, sredstva je osigurao Grad Umag, a u istraživanju su sudjelovali arheolog Zoran Čučković i Ana Marić te studenti arheologije Tena Karavidović, Lujana Paraman i povjesničarka Marina Zgrablić.

Computer-based modelling of movement and transport in prehistory, and the detection and interpret... more Computer-based modelling of movement and transport in prehistory, and the detection and interpretation of ancient pathways from LiDAR images have both attracted much interest in the community of ‘digital archaeology’. Up to now, however, there have been few attempts to link pathway modelling to detection and vice versa. In this seminar, experts from France, Slovenia, the United States and the Netherlands presented the state of the art in both fields, and explored the possible connections between the two. How can we use LiDAR as a source to test pathway models, and vice versa, how can modelling be used to interpret the traces of ancient paths detected on LiDAR images? What can it tell us about the relationships between transport, settlement and landscape? And how can we use archaeological and historical data to help us interpret the observed patterns?
