Circular Quay, Overseas Passenger Terminal

 
A view of the Overseas Passenger Terminal at Circular Quay, where many cruise ships dock in Sydney Harbour. This view is from Circular Quay Way with Quay Quarter Tower and Governor Phillip Tower in the distance. The Squire's Landing is a pub, brewhouse and restaurant on the ground floor.

Cahill Expressway, Sydney Harbour (Theme Day: Photo of the Year)

Looking across the Cahill Expressway above Circular Quay Railway Station to Sydney Harbour. A cruise ship is moored at the Overseas Passenger Terminal and another is almost passing under the Sydney Harbour Bridge. A number of ferries are arriving and departing from the Circular Quay Ferry Wharves. This view is from the balcony at Cafe Sydney, which is a rooftop restaurant in Customs House at Circular Quay. I featured a similar photo during the year which was taken seconds earlier and can be seen here.

The Rocks, Christmas Village


This Christmas decoration is located along George Street, opposite the Museum of Contemporary Art, in The Rocks. ‘Christmas Village’ is an artwork created by illustrator and muralist Nico Nicoson. These miniature buildings are modelled on the historic buildings found within the sandstone laneways of The Rocks, decorated with an essence of an Australian Christmas.

The Rocks, Christmas Village


This Christmas decoration is located along George Street, outside the former Coroner's Court, in The Rocks. ‘Christmas Village’ is an artwork created by illustrator and muralist Nico Nicoson. These miniature buildings are modelled on the historic buildings found within the sandstone laneways of The Rocks, decorated with an essence of an Australian Christmas.

The Rocks, Christmas Tree

This Christmas Tree is located in Jack Mundey Place, a pedestrian mall at The Rocks. The seven-metre-tall tree features native flowers in warm tones of yellows and pinks, created by Nadia Duran. The wooden baubles have been designed by Wiradjuri artist, Shelby-Rae Lyons. The clock tower rises above Clocktower Square, on the corner of Harrington Street and Argyle Street.

Hurstville, Memorial Square


Memorial Square is located along Forest Road, in the southern suburb of Hurstville. The Hurstville War Memorial in the centre of the square was erected in 1922 to commemorate those who died in service or were killed in action during World War One. 'Electricity House' is the office building built in 1939 in the art deco style for the St George County Council, the local area electricity supply utility. It is now home to a branch of the Bank of China.

Dawes Point, Sydney Harbour Bridge


Dawes Point Park is located at the northern tip of The Rocks, beneath the southern approach to the Sydney Harbour Bridge in the inner city suburb of Dawes Point. This view is across George Street which is closed to traffic on weekends for the Rocks Markets stalls, where local artisans sell their handcrafted artworks, jewellery and food.

Kogarah, Fry's Reserve


 These blooming Jacaranda trees line the stormwater drain in Fry's Reserve, in the southern suburb of Kogarah. A newly married couple has chosen this location to take some wedding photos.

South Hurstville, mural

 
This mural is located on a retaining wall along King Georges Road at Grosvenor Street, in the southern suburb of South Hurstville. It was created in 2022 by artist David Cragg in collaboration with Woniora Road School students and is inspired by local fauna. It includes a kookaburra, a superb fairy wren and two tawny frogmouths on branches. It replaces the Community Wall mural which was here.

Leichhardt, Presbyterian Church, hall


This former church hall, built in 1909, is located along Renwick Street, in the inner west suburb of Leichhardt. It is attached to the heritage listed former Leichhardt Presbyterian Church facing Marion Street, built in 1885 with a façade of Romanesque inspired details. The church functions ceased in 1980 and the buildings are now used as a child care centre.

Rockdale, Brighton Terraces

The entrance to the "Brighton Terraces" housing estate is located along West Botany Street, in the southern suburb of Rockdale. These terrace houses were built around 2000 in the Modern Victorian style. The buildings are clearly visible in the middle of winter, with the leaves fallen of many of the trees.

Auburn Botanic Gardens, sundial

 
This sundial is located in the Auburn Botanic Gardens, on the corner of Chiswick Road and Chisholm Road, in the western suburb of Auburn. Visitors can stand on the circle and their shadow cast towards the hour stones will indicate what time it is.

Maddens Plains, view


This view is from Panorama House, located along the Princes Highway at Maddens Plains, a mostly unpopulated area that stretches along the Illawarra escarpment between Thirroul and Stanwell Park. The view stretches to Wollongong, a city located 85 kilometres south of Sydney.
