Lilyfield, Cycle Bridge


Cycle Bridge is a bicycle and pedestrian bridge over Hawthorne Canal, linking Canal Road to Hawthorne Parade, in the inner west suburb of Lilyfield.

Cooks River, canal


This stormwater canal from Cahill Park links to the Cooks River, in the southern suburb of Wolli Creek. The Tempe Recreation Reserve is in the distance.

Lilyfield, TreeCycle


This sculpture is located along Canal Road beside Hawthorne Canal, in the inner west suburb of Lilyfield. "TreeCycle" was created by Graham Chalcroft in 2016 using recycled bicycle parts to form a tree canopy.

Centennial Park, bridge

This is one of the sandstone footbridges over the stormwater canal in Centennial Park, in the eastern suburbs. This footbridge was built around 1890 and links Frog Hollow with the Column Garden. The canal leads into Busbys Pond.

Putney, Grove Creek, canal

These ripples add charm to this otherwise drab canal that runs through Frank Downing Sportsground, in the in the north western suburb of Putney. Grove Creek empties into Morrisons Bay on the Parramatta River.

Abbotsford, canal

This canal is located near historic Abbotsford House, a heritage listed house which gave its name to the inner west suburb of Abbotsford,. In 1920 the estate became the site of a Nestlé chocolate factory, with the house used initially for chocolate production and later as their administrative offices. The factory was closed in 1991 and the estate was redeveloped with medium-density residential apartments known as Abbotsford Cove,.

Sylvania Waters, canals

This canal is in the southern suburb of Sylvania Waters, which has been built on land reclaimed from Gwawley Bay on the Georges River. Houses are built on a series of artificial islands with canals proviiding access. This was the location of one of the first factual/reality television series called 'Sylvania Waters', co-produced by Britain's BBC and Australia's ABC networks back in 1992, which followed the lives of a family that lived here.
