Walsh Bay, Sydney Festival


Sydney Festival is an annual art festival in the City of Sydney since 1977, which this year ran from 4 to 26 January 2025. The Thirsty Mile featured festival events at the Walsh Bay Arts Precinct, spread across venues on Wharf 4/5, Pier 2/3 and Hickson Road at Dawes Point. The giant festival ‘S’ logo and banners have been decorated by Telly Tuita, Sydney Festival's Visual Artist in Residence at The Thirsty Mile. The SS John Oxley is a steamship decorated with the artist's signature textiles and patterns.

Museum of Contemporary Art

This artwork adorns the foyer of the Mordant Wing of the Museum of Contemporary Art. "Bodies of Water" was created in 2024 by Hayv Kahraman, an Iraqi-Swedish-American artist of Kurdish descent In researching Australia's immigration policy, Kahraman began to draw parallels between water, migration and the processes of Ebru marbling, a traditional Turkish art form which involves painting on water.

Hurstville, mural


This mural is in Hurstville Interchange Open Air Gallery Park, along Forest Road, in the southern suburb of Hurstville. The park features temporary public art which changes with different themes. 'Tatalita' is a triptych mural which was created in 2024 by Maria Thaddea, Chenxi (Hilda Zhang) and Penny Zhang to celebrate the Year of The Dragon

Darling Harbour, Tumbalong Boulevard

These large benches are located along Tumbalong Boulevard at Darling Harbour. This one features a couple of curious stone artworks by Columbia-born, Sydney-based artist Maria Fernando Cardoso. The ones shown here on the corner of a bench represent dandelion microfossil pollen and are part of eleven seed and pollen sculptures outside the International Convention Centre Sydney.

The Galeries, art

This artwork is on the ground floor, first floor and connecting escalators in The Galeries shopping centre, in the Citigroup CentreIt was created by Bradley Eastman, also known as Beastman, an artist whose work spans paintings, digital illustration, commercial projects and public mural artworks. The patterns guide you towards a large structural installation that you can walk through, immersing you in a ribbon of pattern. This festive-themed piece is designed to make you feel wrapped in the artwork, like a gift.

This mosaic artwork is located in Memorial Square, along Forest Road, in the southern suburb of Hurstville. "Memorial Square Mosaic" was created by Dean St Baker and Michelle Stewart in 2004 and restored in 2024.

Surry Hills, art

 
This artwork is on the side and back walls of The Colourful House of Surry Hills, a former warehouse along South Dowling Street beside Wimbo Park, in the inner city suburb of Surry Hills. It was created in 2018 by street artist Thierry Noir. The warehouse was converted into a single private residence by businessman John Winning, owner of an appliances business. His close friend, American techno DJ Seth Troxler commissioned the artwork which covers the whole building.

Kogarah, mural

This mural featuring reeds and a creek is on the side of the former Kogarah Civic Centre extending to the footpath and transformer, located on the corner of Post Office Lane and Wicks Lane, in the southern suburb of Kogarah. The suburb name Kogarah is derived from an indigenous word meaning “Place of Reeds”. The administration building was for the former City of Kogarah local government area which had reeds in its logo. The local council merged with the Hurstville City Council in 2016, to form the Georges River Council.

Rockdale, mural

 
This is part of an extensive mural along the walls and pillars of the walkways and travelators leading from the underground car park to Rockdale Plaza shopping centre, in the southern suburb of Rockdale. The mural was created by Joe Whyte in 2022 and depicts historic moments and landmarks from the local area. This depicts Rockdale Town Hall from a past era, when it was decorated in Coronation Celebration Festoons in 1953.

The mural was created by Joe Whyte in 2022 and depicts historic moments and landmarks from the local area. This depicts an old high school in the area.

This is part of an extensive mural along the walls of the walkways and travelators leading from the underground car park to Rockdale Plaza shopping centre, in the southern suburb of Rockdale. The mural was created by Joe Whyte in 2022 and depicts historic moments and landmarks from the local area. This depicts cars, a mechanic outside a workshop and street signage from a past era in Rockdale.

South Hurstville, mural

 
This mural is located on a retaining wall along King Georges Road at Grosvenor Street, in the southern suburb of South Hurstville. It was created in 2022 by artist David Cragg in collaboration with Woniora Road School students and is inspired by local fauna. It includes a kookaburra, a superb fairy wren and two tawny frogmouths on branches. It replaces the Community Wall mural which was here.
