It is amazing what is possible to find for free!
I showed my friend a photo of a skip filled with "legs and arms" that I had just taken, she said "lets go back", and see what is underneath. So we went back and found 2 "bodies" each. It is not every day that a group of men are asked to help to get body parts out of a skip, or that I meet a taxi driver who was smiling for the entire journey!!
I have never been digging through skips before, but according to my friend, that is where it is possible to find real treasures. They will be dressed up with hats etc. and used for decoration and perhaps "photo models".

And yes, we did ask for permission before taking these out of the skip :)

The Vikings are still alive and strong here in Stavanger!
I discovered these Vikings battling opposite the Archaeological museum this afternoon.

Our library at the Culturehouse is selling off old books very very cheap, and I love a bargain, so I might be back for another look soon...
Paresh (the man on the other side of the shelf) might do the same?

This is a view over to the other side of the Gandsfjord.

SiS (Student organisation in Stavanger) are celebrating 40 years!
So today there was free marzipan cake for everyone in the cantina at the University.
The message was "SiS makes student life better".
Yummy cake!:)

Tonight I suddenly realized that the name of this place goes well with the way it looks.
"Patrioten" is the Norwegian name.
"The Patriot," in English.
Locale memories have been put up on the walls :)
Perhaps most places have Patriots ?

Do you remember this?
If not, take a look and see what it looked like 6-7 months ago, by clicking on "allotment", under the image.
It is cold outside, and some places will have it even colder next week....

As you can see, the snow is melting.....

A big THANK YOU, to all of you who have given me useful feedback about the commenting here on bloggers.com. According to my husband, it seems like an issue in IE8. I have changed my comments to use a "popup" which seems to be working fine.

Anyway, today I had a little walk and a few errands, before going to work in the afternoon.

There is melting snow and ice on the roads here and there, otherwise I have to admit that I would prefer days like this, and no rain for some time......

HAPPY WEEKEND!

Thursday, 19 January 2012

I have received a few e-mails from some of you, my blog followers, about not being able to leave a comment. I would like to find out WHY, and who CAN actually leave a comment.
So please let me know.

This is another image from the roundabout "Tjensvollkrysset."
You will see a better overview if you click on the name, next to label.

I looked through some old images tonight, and I decided on showing you one from the day when the clouds were just like they were going to end up on the bumpy road.....
Goodnight everyone!

I passed this school on the way back home tonight.

Freedom!:)

Sunday, 15 January 2012

We have some old and beautiful houses around in Stavanger, and some have been kept in families for generations. Most of them have been updated and redecorated for this century.

We also have young people who will have serious problems to get their first home, without mum and dad helping with the finances.

We have had a cold and sunny day. No rain!:)
Look what I saw today. Colorful art made by Kai Hoffstad.

Along the harbor....

More rain.....
Today has been a mixture or rain, snow, hail, sun, & rain...
According to the newspaper, in the last 43 days, only 2 days have been rain free..

In Norway we have to STOP for pedestrians at crossings, and most drivers are pretty good at observing this rule. In some countries I have visited however, cars never seem to stop to let pedestrians cross the road.

People here are so used to cars stopping as they should, that they will just walk onto a crossing without hesitation.
So remember this,- if you are driving here.

Lots of people have stopped eating bread.
New diets, with no bread or pasta....
But that is NOT me.

Looks cold.....

Monday, 9 January 2012

Morning has broken, still a nice winter day!:)

Sunday, 8 January 2012

The sky was BLUE, and the birds with their strong "kra-kra" message,
made me feel that we are heading out of winter.

They both looked so cute:)
Tora (age 15) and her dog Sica (1,5 kilo) are probably back home in the southern part of Spain now.
She and her Norwegian family have been living in Spain for 5 years.
Yesterday they started their journey via Oslo, to get back to work, school, friends and neighbors.
Have a great new year! Nice to meet you all!

13 days after Christmas.
In town this morning, there was work going on to take down the decorations on trees and buildings.
Have a nice weekend!

Thursday, 5 January 2012

It is dark early in the evenings, which sometimes makes for interesting light......

Wednesday, 4 January 2012

We have had some days with storms, but not as bad as many other places in Norway.
First we had "Dagmar", and yesterday we had "Emil", a storm that passed us on it's way further south. I am not sure "who" caused these trees to fall, but today was perfect for a fresh walk.

Tuesday, 3 January 2012

The SALES are on!
Probably like most places, everything you bought for Christmas is now on sale :)
Bright and colorful advert for the big shopping mall KVADRAT,
inside a bus shelter.

If you have been following this blog, you might remember local politicians saying that they wanted to tidy up the area "Geo Parken" outside the Norwegian Petroleum museum.....
Well, to me it does not seem like much has changed, and it still looks as colorful as ever.
Actually, I find things here that I like. To me it is ok to see this kind of art certain places. But I feel sorry for people, families and businesses who get their property painted without their permission.

Welcome to a new blog year, - here from Stavanger / Norway.
It is the first day of the month, and therefore also a new International "Theme Day" photo.
This time with photos we liked from our blogs in 2011.
Please click on the link below to see also photos from many other places from other photographers.

What I like varies, but I think this image will be a good start for 2012.
I like open landscapes, when the sky is BLUE, and the sun is shining!

Welcome to new followers and to all of you who leave commments.
It means a lot to me.
