Todays model.

Todays "model" is from Stavanger Museum.
The museum has become a nice place, and I strongly recommend visiting it together with children.

The ONS Artist this year.

TORBJØRN RØDLAND is the ONS Artist.
A photographer born in Stavanger, but now living in Los Angeles and Oslo.
I have seen some of his work before, but this time I had a look at KUNSTHALLEN.
If you are in Stavanger use the opportunity to see his work, and that include the film shown downstairs too.

http://www.rodland.net

I always sneak a photo or two of what is going on at museums.
People looking at art, or here some domestic work...

ONS

I am not good at technical things.
Walking around the ONS is like entering another world.
I get impressed about all the things that I don´t know much about.

But there are 3 things I have noticed that I will remember, which have nothing to do with the business....

1) The number of women who are walking around on really high heals!

2) Stand number 544. My favourite stand. The most friendly people and WOW what a creative presentation! Aesthetically pleasing and so informative about the area up in the high north, arctic area.
The film they are showing is just SUPERB!

3) The company "Talisman Energy" have used a fantastic illustrator artist, George Butler, who is doing the most amazing work I have seen for a long time.

Business people.

This is a typical scene from the ONS (Offshore Northern Seas) exhibition.
(See yesterdays posting).
Business people having a friendly chat and discussions over new products.

We have had a very nice and sunny day today, and I guess there will be lots of socialising for business partners and customers out into the early hours.

ONS 2014.

It is a BIG EVENT in Stavanger this week.
ONS (www.ons.no) is taking place. Oil related companies from all over the world come to show their products, take meetings and conferences and perhaps find new working partners. In some ways it is a little like "speed dating" for the oil industry.

Some prominent people also attend.

Here you see our PM Erna Solberg in blue, who even took the time to be photographed together with this young woman who looked very happy about the situation.

ONS was first arranged 40 years ago.

I have only been there a few times. The size as well as the standard and creativity of the stands, has become very impressive.

Plenty of rain with the odd spot of sunshine from time to time.

KONGEPARKEN

Fun at the park. (KONGEPARKEN)
Both for kids and adults!

Souvenirs.

If the tourists walked towards the city centre (from yesterdays photo), they must have passed a souvenir shop, and it looks like they are selling Christmas decorations there the whole year.

Seriously, is that what tourists buy in the summer?

I guess some do, otherwise they would have packed it away, but I think that this is strange?

MS Legend of the Seas.

They are HUGE these "floating hotels" arriving during the summer.
Today it has been a windy day, and the few people I saw, were dressed in thick anoraks.
Well, I hope that one day I will have the opportunity to see the cruise ship from the inside as a proper tourist.

I read about it .... here

...... and had a quick look before heading home this afternoon.

Flats.

This is a building as many others, that have businesses/shops and offices on the first floors and then flats further up. This one has a fantastic view on the other side with the new concert house and the estuary in to Stavanger harbour.

Old and new.

I feel sorry for the owner of one of the most beautiful and well kept villas just opposite this new building site....
On the other hand I know there are students ( as well as other people ) who need a place to live.
There were some very old community flats here, that were not far from falling apart, so it was about time that something happened.

Early evening out on the fjord.

Sometimes I see things I don`t know anything about.
Perhaps a competition going on?

A summer memory.

A summer day on the beach, the way a six year old saw it.

Some children are back to school.
Others have teachers on strike, and more strikes are planned all over Norway.
It is mainly teenagers and their families who will suffer.

Making new high tones inside a pipe at the Geopark.
Always things to explore and find out.

The Geopark.

Another park.
This time from THE GEOPARK.
It is close to The Norwegian Petroleum Museum.
AND it is FREE.

Here you see some street art.
IT is a colourful and a fun place.

KONGEPARKEN

Not so much rain and wind today.
We were two adults and three kids who went to an amusement park, KONGEPARKEN, south of Stavanger today.
Lots of FUN.
The minus, was all the wasps! I have never ever seen so many anywhere on the planet.
It is not cheap going to Kongeparken, so I would recommend that anyone who plans to go.... to start early!

Streetlife.

In the Navy....

(This is an image taken a few days back.
NOW we have RAIN and STORM outside....
It feels like autumn has arrived.)

WIN WIN The Creek.

The luxurious yacht, THE CREEK was in Stavanger this afternoon.
One of the crew members told me that it was going to head north...

Pink doll

Seen on a wall in the city centre.

Dalsnuten.

Today I have been 324 m. above sea level, on a top of a mountain named DALSNUTEN.
This is a sporty family from Sandnes, with their cute dog.
The view behind them is Stavanger, but from the top you can see far away, and I think it has an absolutely fantastic view, so I strongly recommend doing this walk.
Many people were there today, and some very sporty people were even jogging their way up!

Modernising.

The old church neighbourhood has got some nice flats.

Sunday, 3 August 2014

Colours in the city centre.

A super sized doll seen at the Norwegian Children`s Museum today.

Island ferries.

As some of you already know, there are boat connections to several small islands outside the city centre. Or you can use car or bus over some bridges to explore some of them.
This is taken this afternoon, before the weather changed to rain, thunder and lightening.
