Wednesday's Words on a Friday
The original Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and eventually taken over by a moveable feast of participants when Delores had computer troubles. Sadly, Delores has now closed her blog forever due to other problems.
The aim of the words is to encourage us to write. A story, a poem, whatever comes to mind.
If you are posting an entry on your own blog, please let us know so we can come along to read it and add a few encouraging words.
This month the words/prompts are supplied by Wisewebwoman and can be found here
This week's words/prompts are:
1. ravioli 2. serenity 3. marble 4. bridge 5. soccer
and/or:
1. foliage 2. nepotism 3. lectern 4. lantern 5. gorgonzola
Also including Charlotte's colour of the month: Light Blue
Here is my story, minus one of the words:
Serenity Gray smiled to herself as she polished the new lectern with its marble inserts then set to work arranging the foliage for the next day’s service. Her bridge club bake sale had raised enough money to buy new light blue robes for the junior choir boys as well as a new lantern to light the way along the path to the field where the Saturday evening soccer matches were held.
The evening matches had caused a fuss at first, who wanted to play that late in the day? But an arrangement with a local restaurant to serve a dinner after each match had seen many more people in favour of it and the entrance fee to the field had been more than enough to pay for the food.
Last week’s dinner had been ravioli with
a gorgonzola sauce (idea borrowed from Wisewebwoman) followed by strawberry
shortcake, and she had made sure to seat her niece at the same table as the new
young soccer coach. She could still see in her mind the sparkles in their eyes.
This is lovely. Thank you for joining us each and every week with such excellent tales.
ReplyDeleteElephant's Child; thank you, Was the gorgonzola sauce your idea or Wisewebwoman's? I couldn't remember.
DeleteSerenity is a good name. She sounds like she's a good matchmaker.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely day.
lissa, thank you. Serenity doesn't normally matchmake, but she knows these two are made for each other.
DeleteMatch maker extraordinaire.
ReplyDeletejabblog; only this once and it turns out she is right.
DeleteI never played bridge.
ReplyDeleteDora; me neither and I never want to learn.
DeleteThis is a lovely take River and I like the wee romance at the end.

DeleteLovely take, R. You do it so well.
ReplyDeleteMargaret D; thank you.
DeleteThank you for the smile. No matter what words you get you create a great story! Chapeau!!!
ReplyDeleteI looked at the words so hard and... nope. Nothing. Nada....
Iris; thank you. I wasn't sure what to write so I let the words choose the way.
DeleteI love your peaceful and optimistic takes on the WfW. This is no exception. Well written.
ReplyDeleteCharlotte; thank you, most of my writing matches my peaceful optimistic mind.
DeleteBut her nieces friend, who also had eyes on the coach, was placed at another table and wasn't to happy about the nepotism.
