My Heart's in SF

My sweet cousin Holly Rae recently had her first baby. It's a boy. I'm so excited for her!! They live in San Francisco so I didn't get to see him. But I did see his cute picture on Dancer's Facebook.  I made this quilt for him and already sent it off. I thought the fabric was great for living in San Fran. I love the turtles and the bubbles.

Thank you to everyone for their nice comments on my post at Stash Manicure. Now for the winner of my giveaway...

Congratulations, Kathy!! I will get it to you soon. (Thanks, Dancer for helping,)

No Strings Attached

I signed up for Stephanie's No Strings Attached challenge. I managed to get three projects completed. The challenge was to cut up scrap fabrics, sew them together and make something fabulous. I don't think mine are that fabulous, but I am pleased to use up some of those scraps that keep piling up.

I made a bag.

A frog.

And a quilt. I love this quilt. I think I will make a few more of the strip blocks to use up more of my scraps.
Thanks Stephanie for the challenge.

Back In The Saddle Again

It has been way too long since my last post. Actually, I debated with myself long and hard if I even wanted to keep it going. But as you can see, I decided to get back in the saddle again. So here's what I've been doing the past few months.

Watched her dance!

Made signs to hang up around the neighborhood.  Why you ask?

Can you see him in the crowd? I will give you a hint. He is the good looking one in the suit and tie!!

We welcomed home our son!!

I can't even begin to tell you how excited I was to see him! He has been away from home for two years serving a mission for our Church. I know Knoxville, Tennessee isn't very far but too far enough for me.

We had a party to celebrate. Lots of family and friends!

I have to show you the cake my niece made for Kyle's party.  She is only 15 and her cakes are awesome. She has a natural talent for making cakes, that's for sure.

The party continued...

Kyle requested a trip to the Happiest Place On Earth. I think this was our funnest trip yet. We stayed a week at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel. I want to go back. I'm spoiled now!

I did manage to get a few quilts made somewhere in the middle and also went on a retreat or two.

1.  Strip quilt for Stephanie's challenge. Great way to use up all those scraps.
2.  A year of Schnibbles. The pattern is Scratch.
3.  Halloween. The pattern is Which Witch? by Crazy Old Ladies.
4.  Fun for summer. Anchors Away by Pieces From My Heart.

More to come...

I'm Not Afraid Anymore

I'm not afraid of zippers anymore! I finally tackled my fears of zippers. When my daughter was little I made her several dresses and never put in a zipper. If the pattern required a zipper I would either put it back or substitute it with buttons. I'm so excited!! After I made one I just had to make more...

The pattern is Little Glam Bag by Pink Sand Beach Designs. Her pattern is written well and easy to follow with lots of pictures.

I just had to add this last picture of my cat named Annie. She loves quilts!! I often find her under a quilt somewhere...she's so cute!

Mom's blocks

My sister came for Christmas with her tribe. Her tribe consists of one husband and five girls. Yes, 5 girls! On Christmas Eve they have a tradition of exchanging "sister" gifts. All her girls draw names and they each spend $5 on the sister the drew. The Dollar Store and the dollar isle at Target come in handy here. Well, since they were opening their "sister" gifts I decided my sister should open the gift I gave her.

Before my mom passed away she was working on stitching these wedding ring blocks. She finished all but two blocks. I knew my mom was making this quilt for my sister and Mom wanted to give it to her for Chrismtas last year. But Mom got too sick to finish it and then she passed away. So....I finished the quilt for my sister for Christmas this year. I sewed the blocks together and bound it with a solid blue. I didn't add a border because I thought it would take away the beauty of the stitching.

Here is a close-up of the stitching and also the quilting. Teresa of Lazy Daisy Cottage quilted it just in time. It turned out beautiful and needless to say, my sister cryed after she opened it. I enjoyed participating in my sister's tradition of opening a "sister" gift and I think I will do it again next year!

I also want to show you what I won from Where Women Create...

Isn't it funky-cute!!  Jill Wiener made it. You can check out her whimsical pottery here. Jill's work will certainly deliver an instant smile....guaranteed. Thank you Jill, I love it!!
