"The Ground" is an experimental text about my current work in the context of contemporary economic and social conditions and in relation to contemporary art movements. It is published in Cultural Politics Volume 10.3 Cultural Politics (ISSN: 1743-2197) is an international, refereed journal that explores the global character and effects of contemporary culture and politics. It analyzes how cultural identities, agencies and actors, political issues and conflicts, and global media are linked, characterized, examined and resolved. In doing so, the journal explores precisely what is cultural about politics and what is political about culture. It investigates the marginalized and outer regions of this complex and interdisciplinary subject area.

Human beings' advancement in transportation technology has enabled a culture of segregation, a culture of being anywhere but here, a culture of constantly being on the move. Different cities live by different velocities but must constantly be in conversation with each other, corporations find it more efficient to ship work across oceans, and most developed country's goods are imported. Fragmented spaces and times require routes of connection, leading to a wide cultural acceptance of communications technology, and seeing it as a natural development for the advancement of a global culture. However, when the ecological structure of the world changes, so does the psychological atmosphere that renders our way of living and our relationship to the world around us.

The increased use and development of technology in modern society has privileged human consciousness and decision-making to an exclusive and powerful elite. The technological system thrives by feeding on chaotic information, and digesting it into abstract lists and numbers, preanalyzed and categorized. The only decision left for the human consumer is that of regulation. With the prevailing technology implying much of the decisions we make, the question of free will and identity comes to question. Recent studies in biotechnology have 'revealed' the processes of the human brain and have redefined intelligence, thinking and consciousness. The gradual reduction of 'human intelligence' to processes that can be measured, and the reverse engineering and imitation of the neurological system in artificial intelligence has collapsed the boundaries of human and machine.

When children who have suffered trauma require a therapeutic approach in order to heal, are the conventional means of therapy such as talk therapy really the right approach? One of the more daunting aspects of treating patients - especially children - who have faced trauma is that the sensory information and experiences related to the traumatic memory does not dissipate as time goes on; in fact, the trauma continues to be re-experienced. This paper aims to investigate art therapies effectiveness in treating children who have faced such trauma and discusses the psychological effects of art therapy on processing trauma.
