Sew Sweet Simplicity -- OMG and APQS February Goal Complete

Whew!  Just in the nick of time!  My February OMG (One Main Goal) is complete.  ~~doing a happy dance!  It's good for me to set goals!  I'm so happy on the outcome of this adorable quilt.  I'm linking up for the February Goal Finish Link-Up at Elm Street Quilts.  I posted about my goal here on my blog on February 5th.  See all the great February finishes at the linky party here.

I quilted it with my new template from R&S Design .  The pattern board is called Double Bubble.  I really like the size of the bubbles for a baby quilt. I was a little worried about doing an edge-to-edge design on a block like this, but these bubbles worked out great.

For the back I used a simple pink floral print.

I'm so happy with the colors and fabrics in this quilt.  It finished 41" x 55".  It is available for sale in my Etsy Store!

It's time to link up those finishes for the Finish-A-Long Q1 Link-Up.  I'm linking up with Rhonda's Quilt Ramblings here. for the Q1 finish.  You can see my original 2017 Goal Setting post here.

Back then, this quilt was still just 6 blocks.  It needed sashing, borders, a back, quilted, and bound.

Sew Sweet Simplicity -- OMG! Goal COMPLETE!

Sorry... sick kid.  It's not done yet.

Slow Sunday Stitching -- One bud at a time

My eyes have been a little blurry with this little bout of Bell's Palsy.  I do have to report that I am seeing some major improvements.  I can use my tongue properly again!  I can eat solid foods.  My speech is not as slurred (just a little slurred.)  I can almost drink from a straw again.

With my blurry eye (I have a head cold on top of this fun bout.) I have mostly worked on piecing and bindings and such.  But I did get a few stitches in some of the flowers on my to-go project.

Enjoying the process!

Working on this one next.  These little flowers are good for 15 minute sessions here and there.
Love the detail my cheap Nikon Coolpix picks up in Macro mode:

I started this project in December, 2016.  The pattern is called Homestead Harvest.  Below is a picture of the quilt I am making.  I am learning applique.  The pattern is from the book Simple Appeal, 14 Patchwork and Applique Projects for Everyday Living by Kim Diehl.

Morning hair...don't care.  Here's a I just got up photo...and my still-crooked smile:

Yikes!  But at least the picture above doesn't show as much droop.  Next time I'll look MUCH better because I'll do my hair.  LOL.

RSC17 Scrap Happy Saturday -- Teal

It's the last Saturday in February already.  I finished making a few plus blocks and hourglass blocks.  We are rounding out the teals.  (Sometimes my teals look purple or blue...)  It's all good.  Enjoy the process.

WIP Wednesday 2.22.17

I'm still moving forward even with my current episode of Bell's Palsy.  I am getting the movement of my tongue back and my taste buds are starting to act right.  Yeah!  Progress is good.  Enough of that.  Let's get back to the fun, quilty stuff:

I finished making this 2015 Sew Sweet Simplicity BOM quilt.  I love the bright red borders and the 30's looking fabrics (some of them).  This is my OMG (One Monthly Goal) for February.

I'm putting the binding on my 2016 Quilt Doodle Designs BOM quilt.  this quit is so cute.  The binding is not the last step.  I have to put all the buttons on and the label.  Don't expect a Friday Finish just yet.  I used a sheet I got at a thrift store for the back.  It's not 100% cotton, but it's so soft!

I'm keeping up with Pat Sloan's Solstice Challenge.  Here's Block #9 of 25.  It is called Among the Stars.  I made the center block solid instead of pieced.  Some of the blocks I made with flying geese vs. HST's.  From across the room the has the same design as Pat's.  Finished size of this block is 32".

More leaves were added to my to-go project (pattern by Kim Diehl.)  I stitched down some of the circles for the flowers too.  I faithfully carry it with me in my to-go bag.  I'm having a truck recall repair done tomorrow.  I expect all the circles to be sewn down!

I made three microwave bowl cozies.  Here's a picture of two of them.  I used RSC17 Feb. colors.

It looks like I missed a WIP Wednesday last week.  Here's what happened the week before...
I finished block #8/25 called Never Endling Love.  It is the next block that goes with the ones I posted last week.  You can read more about this Pat Sloan designed block here.

Except from the quick microwave bowl cozies (a couple of pic above) I'm still refraining from starting new projects.  I rewarded myself with a few new toys to help me with some upcoming finishes.  These are templates that I use with my longarm.  I bought them when R&S Design had a sale earlier this year.  I LOVE Circle Lord products, but sometimes I also buy boards from R&S.

I made two blocks for the Block Lotto.  Here's the block we are making this month.  It's called Dutchman's Puzzle.  You can find the info to make this block this month here.

Here's a cute little Valentine Table topper in the snow:

It measures 18" x 18".  It's a cute addition to our kitchen.

A friend from church gave me a bunch of "stuff"  The things I don't use/keep will be donated to my local quilt guild.

I did not have any grand finishes this week.  BUT I did not start any new projects except for the microwave bowl cozies that are DONE!!!

Sew Sweet Simplicity Quilt Top Complete

It's a top!  Here's my completed quilt top for the Jacqeline Steeves Sew Sweet Simplicity.

I think it's really cute.  It's my OMG quilt to try to finish for February.  I made it this far.
I'm not sure how I'm going to quilt it yet.

My OMG (One Main Goal) for February was to complete a Jacquelynne Steves quilt-along quilt called Sew Sweet Simplicity. I'm happy to report that this quilt top is complete -- and ADORABLE!

I'm thankful I found all the blocks for my OMG and All People Quilt UFO challenge for February.  This is what it looked like the beginning of this month.  I've come a long way today, baby!

Microwave Bowl Cozy -- RSC17

I used this YouTube video.  It's a video a little over eight minutes long.  I also used a 15" base for a start.  It's a nice size that fits all the bowls we use.

If you're not into YouTube, I found this free pattern.  Both are similar, but the one in the YouTube video is the one I made and fits all my bowls, starting with a 15" square.  The one in the free pattern would just fit my soup bowls because it starts with a 10" square.  This could be a fun project to use orphan blocks!

It fits the big soup bowl:

I live a little over an hour from the Fiesta pottery is made.  You can see their site here.  It's also conveniently located right down the street from Mountaineer Casino (and dog track).  I try to go there for a play day about once or twice a year.

It fits my shallow bowl that we usually use for things like pasta.

You can see where I just did some crop circle quilting (what I call it) in the middle of the cozy.  Neither the pattern or the video call for this type of quilting, but I thought it would lay nice and flat...and it's fun, easy, and fast to do.

Because of my recent bout with Bells Palsy on 2.11.17, I am eating a lot of soups, liquids, and drinks.  I started this new project because I "had" to.  I made a little microwave bowl cozy.  It fits my soup bowl too.  I may have to make one with a 10" starter block.  That would be perfect for this project.

It fits little Mr. Sunshine's pizza plate.  As soon as he saw my new microwave cozy he wanted one!  Seriously, a kid that wants a microwave cozy.  Of course I LOVE this kid!  I'll have to look through the novelty fabric for him the next time I make it to the quilting room.

But look, there's more.  I knew with him wanting to use it that I would never get to use it.  I put more scraps together and made a custom sized one for the soup bowl size I use most. This one I customized to make so that it would fit the bowl.  I added just a quarter inch for the darts on the sides and started with a 10.5" block.  Look how much more the bowl stands up being a smaller block and wider darts:

So, these are the first two projects started this year that were NOT on my UFO list -- but they are finished!    I didn't add to the WIP list and I have a fun, new, functional kitchen item.

After I made them I went back and added loops to hang them.  I didn't want them to get shoved to the back of the kitchen drawer and not be used.  My sister-in-law hasn't seen them yet.  I bet she will love them.  I especially love the one on the left in the photo below.  I will most likely need to make more of that size.  All were done in the colors this month for the RSC17.
