Personal info: After a turbulent start in the ElectCom with different understandings of Steward confirmations, stewards together with WMF, global renamers, and many more supporters could accomplish the SUL finalization much smoother than expected (see lego’s presentation at Wikimania). Despite years of preparation and hundreds of helping hands (see my last confirmation statement), the forcible rename of millions of accounts as a unique invasive operation could have resulted in plenty of problems. I am proud to be part of the team that helped to avoid that (find the core team in an image on the right). After having accomplished one of my main goals as a steward since my first election in 2007 and with new duties at my jobs, I had to refocus my steward activities.

I still do some CheckUser, global anti-vandalism, and similiar stuff but nowadays I’m more interested in helping my dear fellows to work in a healthy, fruitful environment. Therefore, I am also in close connection with the WMF for global ban discussions, and development of a global user merge tool (which unfortunately will very likely not be developed soonish, see phabricator task). Further, I helped prepare the first-ever real-life steward meeting at the Wikimedia Foundation’s and published a German summary. As far as I can see, such joint activities led to a closer relationship among stewards and better coordination. If confirmed I intend to continue these activities in addition to handling selective general steward requests.

Informationen zur Person: Nach einem turbulenten Start im ElectCom mit unterschiedlichem Verständnis der Stewardwiederwahlen haben Stewards zusammen mit der WMF, globalen Umbenennern und vielen weiteren Unterstützungen dazu beigetragen, dass die SUL-Finalisierung viel besser als erwartet zuende geführt werden konnte (siehe auch legos Vortrag auf der Wikimania). Trotz vieler Jahre der Vorbereitung und hunderter Hilfestellungen (siehe meine Stellungnahme letztes Jahr) hätte die Zwangsumbenennung von Millionen von Benutzerkonten als bisher einmaliger invasiver Eingriff zu vielen Problemen führen können. Ich bin stolz darauf, Teil des Teams gewesen zu sein, das dazu beigetragen hat, dass eben dies vermieden werden konnte (rechts ist das Kernteam zu sehen). Nach Erreichen eines meiner Hauptziele als Stewards seit 2007 und mit den neuen Verpflichtungen bei meinen Jobs hatte ich daher meine Stewardaktivitäten neu zu orientieren.

Ich führe noch immer einige CheckUser-, globale Antivandalismus- oder ähnliche Aktionen durch, bin dieser Tage aber mehr daran interessiert, meinen Kollegen dabei zu helfen, in einer gesunden, erfolgreichen Umgebung zu arbeiten. Daher stehe ich auch im engen Kontakt mit der Wikimedia Foundation, bspw. zwecks Diskussionen zu globalen Bannen und zur Entwicklung eines globalen Benutzerkontenzusammenführungswerkzeuges (was aller Voraussicht nach nicht sehr bald umgesetzt wird, siehe den Phabricator-Task). Außerdem habe ich bei der Vorbereitung des ersten Reallife-Steward-Treffens bei der Wikimedia Foundation geholfen und eine deutsche Zusammenfassung dazu veröffentlicht. Soweit ich dies überblicke, führen solche gemeinsamen Aktivitäten zu engeren Beziehungen der Stewards untereinander und zu einer besseren Koordination insgesamt. Sollte ich bestätigt werden, beabsichtige ich, dies neben der Bearbeitung ausgewählter allgemeiner Stewardanfragen weiter voranzubringen.
