Stigmergia (Graece στίγμα 'signum' + ἔργον 'opus, actio') est ratio retis socialis per consensum effecta quae agentes vel actiones per circumiecta oblique coniungit.[1] Quod principium dicit vestigia in circumiectis naturalibus ab actione relicta exsecutionem proximae actionis stimulare, per eundem aut alium agentem. Quo facto, actiones sequentes se supplere et crescere solent, ad spontaneum actionum cohaerentium aperteque systematicarum ortum ducentes.[2]

Stigmergia est manifestum organizationis sui genus, quod structuras multiplices, ut videtur intellegentes, sine destinatione, moderatione, atque adeo communicatione recta inter agentes efficit.[3]

Stigmergie, vocabulum Francicum, a Petro Paulo Grassé, biologo Francico, ad mores isopterorum attingendos anno 1959 introductum est. Quod ipse definivit: "Stimulatio operarum per opus quod exsecuti sunt."[4][5]
