Posing Mini Apples

Posing Mini Apples  oil 8x8 inches
Purchase info here.

It's been a minute since I have posted here on Blogger.  If you have found this post, thank you!  In January I busied myself tremendously with the online "Strada Easel Challenge."  Alas, I did not win a coveted Strada Easel, but I did win lots of valuable daily practice and produced 29 paintings in 31 days.  As you might expect, I would much rather paint that take pics, edit, post, etc, so it will be a long time till you see them here or on my website.  My freshest most current work is always seen on Instagram.  I hope you can follow me there if you're not already.
Here you see a demonstration painting for one of my workshops.  I'm particularly fond of this one for it's crisp freshness.  You should see it in person!  Reasonably priced and your satisfaction is guaranteed.

Strawberries & Sugar

Strawberries & Sugar  oil 6x8 inches
Purchase info here.

This is a sweet little painting that looks SO much better in person!  If you're a painter you'll know that transparent pigments like ultramarine blue and transparent oxide red create a beautiful transparent dark color and make for rich dark backgrounds.  The drawback, however is that they dry glossy and are quite impossible to photograph well.  No matter what I did, I had glare on this painting.  I tried my best to edit the photo to eliminate glare, but it takes the life out of the work.  This is as close as I could get!  If you like it enough to click on the link to purchase, you'll see that I guarantee your satisfaction.  I'm pretty sure you'd love this little gem.

Spring Demo -a demonstration for Westlake Village Art Guild

Spring Demo  oil 12x12 inches
Purchase info here.

Here's a demonstration painting I completed for the Westlake Village Art Guild on Zoom.  I much prefer demonstrating in person, but this art guild made Zoom easy and successful for myself and the audience.  In fact, they created a video of the demonstration that is now viewable on their website.  If you're interested, here's a link to the video.  Many thanks to Wendy Gordin and the Westlake Village Art Guild!

Gerainiums & Berries

Geraniums & Berries  oil 8x8 inches
Purchase info here.

Some geraniums from my yard with local strawberries.  This vintage sugar bowl makes a set with the creamer in my previous post.  The shine gives off some nice reflections.  I painted this in March.
IN OTHER NEWS:  I have a few spots open in my September 18 and 19 workshop.  For more info or to register, please email me at [email protected]

Berries & Branches

Berries & Branches   oil 10x10 inches
Purchase info here.

Since the strawberries were still perky, they took part in this, my next painting.  Here I was going for an organic, botanical feel, with the hand thrown bowl and branches cut from our still bare apple tree.  This bowl has made it into quite a few paintings.  The outer glaze is so dark, it makes for some subtle reflections.  This was a complicated painting, but I'm happy with how it turned out.

One Bossy Berry

oil 6x8 Purchase info here. Strawberries are a frequent subject for me. I do enjoy painting reds! I didn't really feel like painting that day, but I was half way through the Strada 30 Day challenge. I kept changing the background until this icy blue seemed right. Do you paint when you don't feel like it? It's an interesting experience and in my opinion, a good thing to do. Sometimes inspiration/motivation comes after I show up at the easel. Surprisingly enough, this little painting got a lot of interest on Instagram. You just never know what will resonate with people.

Cheesecake & The Big Berry SOLD

oil 6x6 inches Purchase info here. Coming up with titles for so many paintings is always a fun challenge. I thought about the children's book James And The Giant Peach for this one. Maybe this one would fit too: Does This Cheesecake Make My Berry Look Big? LOL! I have a simple contemporary frame on hand if you would like to add it to your purchase. Email for details: [email protected] IN OTHER NEWS: On Monday I completed the Strada Easel September Challenge: paint or draw from life every day for 30 days. Here is a montage of all my work for the month. (missing one by accident). You can see them all on Instagram, or eventually they will be posted here one by one. In a future post I'll share what I learned by painting every single day.

Fruit & Wine

oil 8x8 inches. Purchase info here. In these small still life paintings I like to have objects (or their shadows) go off the edges. This divides the negative space nicely resulting in different sizes and shapes. Often, I use a wine bottle to take the scene off the top. You might think I drink a lot of wine! No, I just find the bottles useful and pretty. Here's a painting that has a variety of fresh color and high value contrast. I'm quite happy with this one. I hope you like it.

Summer Fruit -SOLD

oil 8x8 inches Purchase info here. Here are a couple of my favorite things to paint; light shining through oranges and juicy ripe strawberries. It has been a rough few months for me with a reoccurring illness. I've been able to paint in between when up to it. I'm still not out of the woods, but hopeful. Meanwhile, some very GOOD news! My painting "Bloom & Sparkle" is on it's way to Fish Creek Wisconsin for The American Impressionist Society's National Exhibit. I feel very grateful to be included. Peninsula School Of Art, Fish Creek Wisconsin, Sept.27-Oct.28th. Also recently Associated Artists of The Inland Empire awarded me Best of Show in their Annual Fall Juried Show! More details on that in my next post.

Westlake Demo

oil 8x8 inches Purchase info here. What a great time I had teaching a three day workshop for Westlake Village Art Guild recently! This is the demo I did on the last day. I'm happy with how it turned out, though the alizarin in the pomegranate and strawberry doesn't photograph well. Oh well, it's better in person and that's what counts. IN OTHER NEWS: I have a few openings in my February workshop, and one opening in my March workshop. I hold these in my large home studio building in Upland, CA. Email me for more info [email protected]

Juicy Fruit

oil 8x8 inches magnify/purchase info Is there any more luscious color than in a strawberry or and orange? I wish you could see this one in person. My camera doesn't capture the deep red color shifts well at all. This shot from my iphone is just a bit better. It seems a painter also needs to be a photographer.
