Lemon & Limes

Lemon & Limes oil 10x10 inches
Purchase info is here.

This is our napkin basket of old.  Remember the days of basket parties?  I very much enjoy conveying  the weave of natural materials without using a teeny tiny paintbrush to make an exact representation.  My goal is to say "basket" in a painterly way, not a photographic way.

Leftovers -a still life painting in oil

oil 8x8 inches magnify/purchase info Number 16 of 31 paintings in 31 days. I'm sorry it's so long between posts. Life has been hectic lately! Though I have been painting, I haven't been sitting down at the computer to post. This painting is an assortment of leftovers from my still life workshop. There is something refreshing about orange and green together. Grapes thrown in for a dark value.

Debbie's Bowl -a still life painting in oil

oil 6x6 inches magnify/purchase info A great group of enthusiastic ladies joined me for my weekend workshop. I guess I was having too much fun to take pictures! Here's one of the demos I did for them. I painted about twice as fast as I normally do so they'd have more time to paint. No time to fuss over this one, resulting in fresh, chunky strokes. Tonight I'm off to demonstrate for the Tustin Art League.

Lemon Lime -SOLD

oil 6x6 inches magnify/purchase info July is flying by with not much painting going on here. We spent two weeks in our motorhome visiting family in Idaho and camping in Idaho and Lake Tahoe. Our Idaho granddaughter traveled home with us, so this week we're showing her everything fun in Southern California and that's a lot! IN OTHER NEWS: I'm excited to announce I've been invited again to Balboa Island for the Just Plein Fun Invitational. Come visit Balboa Island next Monday, August 1 through Friday, visit the Debra Huse Gallery to find out where each of the eight artists are painting at any given time. Come to see the gallery fill up with beautiful fresh work created during the week. The Big Brush Off (quick draw) this year is on Sunday and open to amateurs and professionals. Copper Pot

oil 8x8 inches magnify/purchase Back to my ledge series. With this piece I did something I rarely do. I painted it twice. The first go-around I didn't listen to that little voice in my head saying, "Might be too squeezed up top." I forged ahead, and right on through till at the end, sure enough, it's too squeezed up top. (It has to be either high or low, not in the center.) I was so happy with how the objects were painted, I couldn't bring myself to wipe it off. So I painted it all again, which to me, is torturous! I still like that first lemon. Need to get a ban saw, cut it out and glue it on the second painting! Ha!

Still LIfe With Sunflower

oil 8x16 inches In three and a half days of the Fair I have done five paintings. This is the largest and my favorite. I love the neutral greens and browns possible when I mix transparent red oxide, cad yellow medium and ultramarine blue. Don't know if I'll put this one up for sale or not.
