Summer's Last Pickings

Summer's Last Pickings  oil 10X10 inches
Purchase info here.

At the end of fall I still had some string bean vines barely hanging on, and a few cherry tomotes too.  I like the scattered look of this painting.  Isn't it interesting that the human eye finds randomness more interesting than order?  We like variety and surprise more than what is predictable.  The background color is a cool gray even though it may appear blue or violet here in the image.  This piece is custom framed in a narrow mahogany floater frame, ready to hang.  If you'd like to see it in the frame, just email me.

The Season's First Poms -SOLD

The Season's First Poms    oil 8x16
Vanessa Rothe Fine Art Gallery

About 3 years ago one of our avocado trees blew down in a windstorm.  A blessing in disguise, I now had room to plant a pomegranate tree.  These are the variety from which grenadine is made.  I won't be making any grenadine, but they have the color I want for painting.  I wish you could see this in person, because the deep reds in shadow don't photograph well.  There is no black in this painting!  You can see it in person at Vanessa Rothe Fine Art, Laguna Beach, CA.  If you're interested in purchasing this custom framed work, call  949-280-1555.  She does ship.

Porch Primrose

oil 12x12 inches Purchase info here. A painting from the atrium near my front porch. These primrose bloom early every spring and create the proverbial "primrose path" to my front door! I had a great time painting it, and a not-so-great time trying to get a good photo of the painting. In other words, I wish you could see it in person.

Wildflowers -an oil painting from UCR Botanical Garden

oil 10x8 inches For a closer look and purchase info click here. This one is from a photo reference I took on a Spring visit to the University of California at Riverside's botanical garden. It looks complicated, but I really enjoyed painting this "all-over" pattern.
