Back from my holiday...

We had a lovely time, the weather was good but i returned with a souvenir i didn't really want. I've come back with a rotten cold, i still have it and now DH has it too.

We spent a lot of this holiday taking in the lovely view from our accommodation. We were literally just down the road from Scarbrough Castle, you could see the sea at both bays from our windows.

and from the bedroom window we were high up just opposite St Mary's Church. You could enjoy a cup of tea in bed in the morning and look out to sea at South Bay knowing the harbour was down the winding steep streets.

We visited some wonderful places again on our second trip to this part of the UK and saw some really unusual things.

Saltburn on Sea, with a lovely pier and cliff lift down the steep incline to the beach.  The yarn bombers (or guerilla knitters, secret knitters who display their work for all to see) had been and visited the pier for the Jubilee and also the Olympics, they had left some wonderful knitted things for people to view. Staithes is a fishing village, down steep winding narrow roads and out into the harbour. There is a Heritage Centre and museum dedicated to Captain Cook as he lived and worked in the village as a boy. Very interesting visit to that.

 

 

Pickering is a lovely place, the home of the the North York Moors Railway. We didn't go on the railway this time as we spent a day on there last time, but we did visit the Church of St Peter and St Paul to see the magnificent wall paintings inside the church.

Beck Isle Museum of rural life had some super old cross stitch samplers by children on show and crafting items from bygone days.

Scarborough Fair houses old steam driven fairground organs and rides, motor cars and bikes etc. The galloping horses were there, i have such happy memories of seaside trips as a child on these.
When you paid your entrance fee you got a ticket for a free ride.... exciting or what! Poor DH came off looking very green and i was very naughty and headed to the cafe for some homemade carrot cake and pot of tea while he wandered around to walk off his nausea lol.

There are also evening shows that you can go to to listen to the organs playing and have a night of singing and dancing. It's also used for wedding receptions too.

Our journey home was drove inland to The Eden Camp Museum. We spent a fantastic day there exploring the old POW camp and its exhibitions. They have done an amazing job preserving all that is on show there. There were lots of school children on history trips with their schools really enjoying the experience.

Due to my holiday and being ill since i got back i am way behind on blog reading. Unfortunately as much as i hate doing this, i am going to have to mark them all as read in my reader and start again from today. I'm so sorry friends, i will scroll down though each time i visit your blog with a new post to see what i have missed, it might not get an individual comment but it will be looked at.

What's happening here...

Were you all wondering where i had been?

It's been a busy time here organising the Horticultural Show and lots of other stuff going on too, nice stuff though, not bad stuff. I'm up to date with blog reading but not had time to take pics and upload and do a blog posting recently.

Here's hubby receiving his trophy from our local celebrity gardener Adi Dayman for the Best Vegetable in the Show, it was for his cucumber, he also got one of my stitched books.


We make a handmade gift for Adi and this year i made a keyring for him.


I've just uploaded a few pics from the camera of stitching thats been happening over the last month or so, just some smalls though.

Clare celebrated her birthday on Monday so i can now reveal the little gift i made.


Augusts ornament for the monthly SAL is still sitting here waiting to be finished, i've taken a pic whilst i had the camera out before its made up. This design i saw recently at Catherine's blog - Bramblewood Stitches and so beautifully she had made it up, i knew i had to stitch my copy. It looks really different on the red 27ct linda fabric.


The Wednesday evening SAL nights have resumed again at NH last week. This time the designers chosen are LHN and CCN. Never one to miss an opportunity, i've cheated the first week and used a CCN design from last years JCS ornament magazine for both the SAL night and the monthly ornament. Again, this needs making up but i had to take a pic for the forum so decided to show you that too. I've chosen Daisy Lane Cottage for my next project, Barb is also doing the same design, she's posted an update as she started last week, hop on over and have a look, it's beautiful.



DH's granny blanket has also had a few rows added. Now the temperatures are dropping and the cooler autumn weather is coming he's asked if it will be finished this year? Better make more of an effort with this otherwise the answer will be no!


The Autumn exchange has been stitched and promptly sent out on the due date to my partner, No reveal of that though till the end of the month when we open the parcels all together on the same date.

The monthly challenge is also finished, as usual reveal for that is the end of the month too. It's a good job really as i need to make it up. I'll do that together with the 2 ornaments when i get back from my holiday. Did i mention i am off for a little break for a few days? DH and i have been really busy recently and decided a little relaxation and quiet time was needed for us both to recharge our batteries. I'm hoping we get some nice autumnal sunshine like we had last year.


Reading is still happening with great gusto. I've finished The Island and it was lovely. Agatha has had another adventure too in the Wizard of Evesham and i started another one of her adventures last night with the Witch of Wyckhadden - easy reading when very busy and you just need a 10 minute break with a book and a cuppa.
