Vanda Pereira de Matos has an European PhD by the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Lisbon. She is an architect by the Lusiada University of Lisbon, with a Bolonha integrated mater degree. Pre-Bolonha master in Rehabilitation of the Architecture and the Urban Nucleus by the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Lisbon. In the course of her academic degrees has presented and published her works in national journals and in selected texts of symposiums and conferences at a national and international level. As a freelancer she developed some works in as a designer, and collaborated with Senior Architects in the field of her specializations.

Palmela's mansion, one of the current edifices of LisbonBreaks agency, is located in an area that... more Palmela's mansion, one of the current edifices of LisbonBreaks agency, is located in an area that underwent radical urbanistic transformations in the late 19 th and the early 20 th centuries. The edifice has an eclectic main façade, which hides the high technology that the mansion presents. The descriptive memory shows a profound knowledge of the technologies of the epoch, disseminated by architectural magazines, namely A Construção Moderna, regarding the type of laminated iron, hydraulic screed, the layer of folded brick, and the concrete bed anchored to the walls by the beams that support the storage room gallery. These building materials allow to conceive more open and fluid spaces, to control more the width and master the natural daylight, fundamental for spaces, as ateliers, foreseen in the 1914's project of the edifice.

A fundamintal key to the environrnental and urban sustainability of Lisbon is the lJrban Rehabiiitation of the city's heritage. ln Principe Real, Eastbanc launched a new project involving 20 buildings with Eduaido Souto Moura signature. Buiidings associated to Lisbon's identity, are being readápted for shopping centres, hotels, private condominiums and shops. Ribeiro da Cunha Maniion, 7877, an iconic neo-Moorish building, presently Embaixada Shopping Centre responds to the needs of a new branch of the popr-rlation. However a balance must be achieved regarding the incoming population or Eastbanc Project as a hole may in time lead to a gentrification of the urban area changing its demographic diversity and social cohesion.

Colour Sustainability and Authenticity in Portuguese Contemporary Architecture, 2018

Beyond the consolidated city, in the peripheral and residual areas, it has been built collective ... more Beyond the consolidated city, in the peripheral and residual areas, it has been built collective dwelling of cooperative promotion, some awarded by their quality. These buildings are recent heritage and future legacy. Due to the present crisis, these buildings will face degradation. Given the impossibility of preserving everything, it is necessary to define color authenticity criteria in the conservation and rehabilitation of the buildings. Also, considering that buildings are an expression of their time, most of them will not fulfil all the requirements of the present regulations to achieve sustainability without loss of their authenticity and cultural value. This study proposes a referential grid of color authenticity criteria, based on buildings referenced by the old National Housing Institute in Portugal (today IHRU), which can be used to assess other buildings.

Os anteriores congressos da série de Congressos Internacionais de História da Construção Luso-Brasileira (CIHCLB) tiverem lugar em Vitória, Espírito Santo (Brasil) em 2013, Porto (Portugal) em 2016, e Salvador, Bahia (Brasil) em 2019. O tema especial do congresso, Ambientes em Mudança, visa discutir do ponto de vista histórico, e nas diversas épocas, as grandes mudanças que resultaram, por exemplo, do desenvolvimento de novas materiais e sistemas construtivos, de novos sistemas produtivos ou organizacionais, de alterações de quadros legais, ou os impactos das transposições para novos territórios, ou de grandes catástrofes. O tema reflete também os enormes desafios atuais e também passados, que incluem nomeadamente as alterações climáticas, a resiliência do ambiente construído e sistemas altamente complexos, ou a necessidade de assegurar um património vivo, em que o património construído, nas suas vertentes material e imaterial, e a partilha de culturas construtivas têm um contributo essencial para apoiar uma sociedade mais inclusiva. Neste âmbito, compreender o modo como se construiu num determinado lugar e num dado período históricocom que materiais, técnicas, máquinas e tipos de organização do trabalhoimplica os contributos de várias disciplinas. Referem-se, nomeadamente, a Arquitetura, a Arqueologia e a Engenharia, mas também a História Económica e Social, a História da Ciência e das Técnicas de Construções, a Geografia Física, a Conservação e Restauro, a Ciência dos Materiais e várias outras. O programa do congresso inclui seis sessões plenárias e cerca de 20 sessões temáticas que abrangem estas diversidade. O objetivo dos organizadores foi fazer do congresso o local de excelência para a divulgação dos mais recentes desenvolvimentos científicos e técnicos e para a troca de novas ideias em temas emergentes. Estamos certos que este objetivo vai ser cumprido e esperamos que os participantes possam apreciar o programa técnico e social planeado para a acolhedora cidade de Guimarães, património mundial UNESCO. Este livro inclui mais de 300 autores e cerca de 150 contribuições. Esta série de congressos beneficia imensamente da junção de jovens (e o futuro da comunidade) e profissionais consolidados. A razão da escolha do objeto de análise deve-se, por um lado, ao facto de a habitação coletiva ser uma tipologia cuja origem remonta nos séculos, particularizada no edifício do edifício de rendimento, que molda a imagem da cidade, e por outro, ao facto de a habitação coletiva de promoção cooperativa apresentar “obras de autor” de qualidade excecional constituindo um legado que é necessário preservar. The Process of Creation: Artistic Creation and Creative Processes

This research is built upon the search for the understanding of today's status of the process... more This research is built upon the search for the understanding of today's status of the process of creation, and how it has been considered through time, first through an philosophical approach, then through psychological aesthetics and finally, more recently, through psychology. If all construction of reality are built upon the interaction between physical world, the psychological or subjective world and the world of human creation, it seems to be clear that the creative process is, by excellency, a paradigm of the human experimental or experiential phenomena. Assuming a descriptive case study approach, Boa Nova Tea House of Siza Viera is analyzed. In Siza Vieira´s creative process, the drawing constantly validates his work. Architecture balances between art and technique as a creative act resulting from the artist mental reflective and experimental construction.

These buildings are recent heritage and future legacy. Due to the present crisis, these buildings will face degradation. Given the impossibility of preserving everything, it is necessary to define colour authenticity criteria in the conservation and rehabilitation of the buildings. Also, considering that buildings are an expression of their time, most of them will not fulfil all the requirements of the present regulations to achieve sustainability without loss of their authenticity and cultural value. This study proposes a referential grid of colour authenticity criteria, based on buildings referenced by the old National Housing Institute in Portugal (today IHRU), which can be used to assess other buildings.

Their colours give them a specific identity. From the Gaioleiro building until the modern building (c.1951-c.1960) colour palettes emerge given by the glazed tiles, which appeared in the façades and in the interior of the buildings, and the use of hydraulic mosaics (from the 1930s to the 1950s) and vitrified pastille (in the 1950s), combining the use of the Estado Novo's bland shade colours with a new set of vibrant colours. The colours and building materials associated to this period are elements that must be preserved on the rehabilitation and conservation of this heritage.

The urban buildings as territorial units obey to the legal, economic and aesthetic rules of the city's territorial management. The city as a historical living object and its historical sites may be regarded as monuments. In order to assure their conservation and rehabilitation it is necessary to define building types. Taking into account the building to let in Lisbon from the 16 th century to the 1st half of the 18 th century a reference pattern has been established. It led to the discovery of a historical site. This analysis allowed for a new evaluation of the internal and external image of the building to let.

E a vida é boa de mais para esperar 365 dias para ser feliz. O Arquiteto é uma referência na minha vida pela forma íntegra como tem feito o seu percurso não só pelo seu percurso profissional como pela forma digna como lidou com passado do Estado Novo e soube viver e se posicionar em democracia. Para mim que tenho um passado vivido e herdado essa dignidade é-me estruturante e por isso lhe agradeço. Em 2010 no decurso do meu doutoramento na Faculdade de Arquitetura de Lisboa escrevi uma Carta aberta a Alexandre Alves Costa, já vai longe, mas de qualquer forma anexo, e muito obrigada.
