In Korea, most of universities' names are called simply with the first syllable like Yondae from Yonsei Daehakgyo(university in Korean), Budae Busan Daehakgyo, Kyedae Kyemyung Daehakgyo etc. Hongik Daehakgyo is also called Hongdae and the area around this school is famous especially for dance clubs and live music clubs, and also a place for artists and young people.
The spot where I took this photo is in the middle of so-called "Street making you want to walk on", which is located between the subway station and Hongdae. The bar stalls which used to dominate the street were forcibly removed and instead this kind of sculpture and benches were placed.
When you are in Seoul, I recommend you should visit Hongdae. During day, go to hip cafés and restaurants and at night go clubbing or just wandering is also good enough.
한국에서는 대부분의 대학교 이름를 간편하게 부를 때 첫 자만 따서 부른다.
연세대는 연대, 부산대는 부대, 계명대는 계대 이렇게.
홍익대도 역시 홍대로 불리는데,
홍대는 특히 댄스 클럽과 라이브 뮤직 클럽들의 집합지이자,
예술가들의 장, 젊음의 장소이기도 하다.
사진을 찍은 곳은 지하철역에서 홍대 정문으로 이어지는 길에 있는,
일명 "걷고 싶은 거리"인데 원래는 포장마차들이 있었던 것을 강제로 철거시키고
이런 조형물들을 세우고 벤치들을 놓았다.
서울에 있다면 홍대를 꼭 한 번 가보길 권장해본다.
낮에는 트렌디한 카페와 식당을 가고,
밤에는 클럽을 가거나 그냥 거리를 배회해도 좋다.
