- Project news
- This month, after a discussion, our project was renamed from WP:FILMS to simply WP:FILM. As our project covers more than just films in its scope, simplifying our name better represents our project's focus. The name change required hundreds of page moves for the name transition. Special thanks go to the editors that helped in this tedious task, including Big Bird, Fuhghettaboutit, Kollision, MSGJ, PC78, PeterSymonds, and anyone else who assisted.
- Throughout the history of our project, our members have worked hard to improve articles to higher classes, including GA and FAs. A breakdown of our project's Spotlight articles can be seen here, which list the films' basic genre, Rotten Tomatoes rating, and box office gross (when available). The tables and charts illustrate what types of film articles our members have worked on, and may indicate what type of articles we should branch into to better represent all years, countries, genres, and other attributes. The tables may also be helpful for finding examples of articles that you may want to improve.
- To encourage the use of sourcing statements and expanding articles, a new template has been created for adding to article talk pages. If you stumble across a newspaper or journal article, book, television show, or other potential source for an article and do not have time to add it, you can list it on the talk page in a "references to use" section or subpage. The template can then be included at the top of the page to direct editors to the potential sources that can be used for improving the article.
- Metacritic recently changed the urls for its links. This change may cause some of the current links in articles to not work properly. If you notice any articles that have the older urls, please correct them to ensure readers are redirected correctly.
- Based on views, the top five most popular articles from our project this month were: The Social Network, Paranormal Activity, Paranormal Activity 2, Internet Movie Database, and Saw 3D. For a list of our project's top 1,000 most popular articles, see here. Consider helping to improve one of these articles that is seen by thousands to millions of people each month.
- Our project currently has over 76,700 film-related articles, with over three hundred unassessed articles, thanks to the assessment department! Remember to always add the
{{WikiProject Film|class=}} template to a film article's talk page so the project can get a better idea of what work still needs to be done. If you believe that an article should be assessed at a certain class, feel free to follow the assessment scale and assess the article yourself (it's not too difficult to determine the basic classes such as stubs, categories, or lists). Below is a table showing a breakdown of our articles by class.
- Spotlight Update: Multiple films and film-related articles have reached GA status in October 2010.

- Please add your name to the member list if you have not already.
