Image renaming

[edit]

I saw that you tagged a image for rename but your not on the checkpage for the bot (Commons:MediaMoveBot/CheckPage) Please go to the the talk page and put your name up for approval so that the bot can automatically rename your request instead of waiting for someone else on that list to confirm for you. Hungarian metal scout badge

[edit]

Hi, if I see well you renamed the image File:Magyar Cserkészszövetség metal 1930s.jpg. However, the new name is wrong, because it is not from the 30's, but from the 90's (actually I am the original uploader and I made the picture from my own badge). Please move it to a correct name. Best, --Antissimo (talk) 07:21, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OK, understood! :) --Antissimo (talk) 06:52, 23 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

File:United Kingdom Scout Association.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Stamps of scouts

[edit]

Hi Kintetsubuffalo, i do not want to stalk you! I think your request to rename all these stamps is a wrong way, many of these stamps have names in their own language (polish, nederlands and so on) and also have some more informations (catalog number, year) then simple scouts, ... , year. The topic scout maybe added to the filename, but for me its more easy and simple just to put these stamp in their category. Again I will not change back your rename requests for the stamps which are not uploaded from me but please leave the "DBP/DBPB/DR 19xx nnn further_name.jpg" in that way. I've scanned and uploaded more then 1.000 stamps and will go on with many more - all of them have these scheme and are used in several articles, especially in de:WP. So, sorry again, when you think I want to something against you personally. Greetings NobbiP 15:38, 16 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

File renaming

[edit]

Kintetsubuffalo, you were accusing me also of stalking and retaliation. You requested a LOT of renames and we have large backlog rename requests. I as a user approved for confirming validity if the requests check if requests meet one of the valid reasons on Commons:File renaming policy page. As I already mentioned, your renames did not meet any listed reasons, since they were fixing punctuations and occasionally translating filenames to English. As such they were rejected and removed. You undid most or all of my removal edits, please put them back or agree not to remove them again if I do. I do not want to have edit war here. If you would like second opinion ask at [[Commons:Administrators' noticeboard] or on Commons:Village_pump#File_renames. I would also appreciate if you restrain yourself from accusing people of stalking. --Jarekt (talk) 12:40, 23 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't agree to either of your conditions, and I disagree with your methodology. You have no history with the bulk of the images you reverted, and I do. Going after my contributions list and undoing everything is wikistalking, and I openly accuse you of bad faith. Leave my edits alone, and I would appreciate if you and the horse you rode in on... Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 13:24, 23 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Kintetsubuffalo and Jarekt. I just noticed this debate and would like to make a comment. We can all make mistakes and this is a wiki so changeing and undoing and un-undoing is a normal and accepted thing. If someone makes a serie of changes and an other user things these changes are wrong then there it would not be wikistalking to undo these changes. It would be the only right thing to do. Ofcourse giving an explanation to undo the edits would be a good idea (a must). If two users disagree then there is no point in an edit war. Then it is better to start a debate at a relevant place.
I do not agree that Jarekt is stalking. I suggest that you (Kintetsubuffalo) take an other look at Commons:File renaming and explain how the suggested renames live up to the valid reasons. --MGA73 (talk) 14:10, 23 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your renames

[edit]

I reverted your renames, because they are violating the guidelines. If you think they are in accordance with the guidelines I would ask you to give a specific reason for renameing each file. Cheers --Cwbm (commons) (talk) 16:32, 13 December 2009 (UTC)

Adolf Hitler's stamp

Hi, How can I rename this file to Adolf Hitler 42 Pfennig Stamp? I realized after uploading it that I have mistyped Hitler as Hotler in the file name!--Professional Assassin (talk) 15:30, 12 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I archived my talk, so here's my response: Since their creation, Burma, Laos, Ethiopia and Iran have had their emblems here at Commons-I support this under some idea of PD-old, as the first two are totally defunct and the last two are often defunct, reborn and tottering. Cuba should probably be here for the same rationale. However, File:Bandalag íslenskra skáta 1940s.svg, though it is old, has always plagued me, I think it probably doesn't count as Iceland's Scouting is continuous. I think it should only be at en:wp, what think you? If you have the same concerns, please help, I have tried to mess with svgs and they don't work for me.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 12:19, 18 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Same with File:Persatuan Pandu Puteri Malaysia.svg, which is a present use badge that should not be here.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 12:26, 18 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
File:Bandalag íslenskra skáta 1940s.svg was already at en:wiki as fair use, so I tagged it for deletion. As for File:Persatuan Pandu Puteri Malaysia.svg, another Wikipedia, in which I'm not an autoconfirmed user, is using it so it can't be deleted from Commons until someone from that Wikipedia transfers it. I would upload it to en:wiki, but it would have to be under a different name. ZooFari 14:43, 18 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Strangely, by accident of being here long enough, I am an autoconfirmed user on the Vietnamese Wikipedia because I edited there twice a couple of times. I'd love to upload it there as File:Hội Nữ Hướng đạo Malaysia.svg, but as I say I can't work with them. Then so long as it has two 'pedias using it, it's safe to stay here? --Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 04:29, 19 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
What is it you can't work with? Can you download the image? ZooFari 04:31, 19 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No, it comes up as empty.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 05:20, 19 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Kintetsubuffalo, you marked the picture with the watermark tag. Of course i can remove his coat of arms, but i think it was integrated in that time and belongs to this portrait. Regards --Ras67 (talk) 12:52, 23 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Watermark tag?

[edit]

Hi Kingtetsubuffalo, I noticed you added a watermark tag to File:Treaty of Serves Greece.jpg, however I'm unable to understand what portion of this image is considered to be a watermark (the stamp in the lower right maybe?). Similarly this image doesn't appear to have a border that wasn't there originally, and some portions of the art extend beyond the inner border so it can't be cropped. Can you explain your reasoning with these tags? Thank you. Dcoetzee (talk) 05:46, 28 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There is some minuscule Greek text at the very bottom which is not part of the original, further the extra dead white space outside the frieze border needs to be trimmed away.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 05:50, 28 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Dcoetzee (talk) 07:56, 28 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I realize that your upset, and the comment by Foroa was inappropiate as well. But even in those cases please don't insult people, you could have easily taken it to the Admins Noticeboard. --DieBuche (talk) 14:06, 10 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for reviewing the situation and lessening the penalty. I was in the process of quitting when your edit conflict stopped me from posting what I was thinking. Now I can speak to you as someone reasonable, just as you treated me reasonably and fairly. I thank you for that and I will not forget your softening.
I am not happy in working on Commons, I have encountered more rudeness on Commons than in five years on the en:Wikipedia. en:Wikipedia is at least usually pleasant, but it is a chore to deal with Commons, I only come here because I have to, there is a greater selection of source material than at any of the individual Wikipedias. You are one of about four decent admins I have encountered, more have been rude to me than have been kind. What User:Foroa did to me was what I have come to expect from working here. There is at least some sense of accountability on the en:Wikipedia, and administrators do not threaten long-term editors needlessly. Check my edit history. Until today my edits on Commons were useful and productive; I do not stalk other users and I do not undo others' productive edits. I treated no one with hostility or rudeness until I was treated thus, and I have been treated with hostility much too often on Commons. Rename edits are no more difficult on Commons than they are on Wikipedia, the process has been streamlined and there is no need to treat a rename request as a crime. Someone who says "I will rename them but the pictures will be removed from all projects that use them" is the most meanspirited vindictive thing I have encountered in five years in Wikimedia projects. Such users should not be administrators, the good editors on Commons suffer because of such bullying. I am an educator, speak multiple languages and have been a student of Scouting history (the exact edits User:Foroa stalked me about) for 31 years now. Should I be treated as stupid or bothersome? Am I really more trouble than good? If so, I don't belong here and wish I could undo the positive things I have done for all.
I am happy you blocked me, at least someone is now listening to what I have been going through since I've been working on Commons.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 14:36, 10 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
ps, please leave me blocked for the full three days, it is a badge of honor for me, I finally got to speak my mind openly and honestly about the process here, and it will leave me a nice weekend.
I would request that you review the edits I made which User:Foroa undid. They are not just cosmetic, they help the en:Wikipedia:WikiProject Scouting (and sister German, French, Italian and Swedish projects) catalog what is available to interested users. Surely "Scouts Canada Boy Scout in uniform 1976 retouched.jpg" is more descriptive and informative than "Boyscout2.JPG"? If you agree with me, or at least understand me, please let me make the edits I requested when I come back.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 14:45, 10 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I notified Foroa as well, that I found his threats inappropriate & unneeded. Regarding the renames: I agree with you that the rename rules should be softened; the current ones are from times where images had to be downloaded, reuploaded etc. Especially after we introduced the filemover group, the rename backlog steadily declined from ~1100 files to currently 400 files & as more users get this right, it will continue to decline. I had proposed that on the Rename talk page, but the majority was for keeping the rules the same, but maybe this will change as soon as the queue is reasonably empty. I'll have a look at your edits & see what I can do. Have a nice weekend --DieBuche (talk) 15:07, 10 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Danke schön! You have a nice weekend as well. If I didn't have this black-mark, I would be happy to help with the backlog. Wikipedia is something I care about deeply, my friends say it is my "real job", I'm here almost every day. Glad to know you.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 15:18, 10 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Now I do fully intend to seek a desist order on the Admins Noticeboard for Foroa, once I am unblocked. I have been following Commons talk:File renaming#example on policy page, consensus is against him yet he will not listen or be reasoned with. Now more bullying from Foroa, he is retaliatorily undoing all my rename requests, to include those not specifically dealing with Scouting. I am defenseless right now, please help stop it.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 07:58, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Watermark again

[edit]

Hey Kintetsubuffalo, just checking with you on another watermark at File:Iraq kurdish areas 2003.jpg. I'm not sure what this one is referring to - the text in the lower-right maybe? In weird cases like this in the future could you please include some explanation in the edit summary and/or as an argument to the watermark tag? Thanks. :-) Dcoetzee (talk) 14:46, 21 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, that code, sorry.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 14:50, 21 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Why the Undo?

[edit]

Hey Kintetsubuffalo, I have seen your 'Undo revision' in File:Postzegel NI 1937 nr226-227.jpg to restore the heading {{int:filedesc}}. That heading is added only with the {{ImageUpload|full}}. In my opinion that heading is not useful. So I often delete it when I have used the full upload template via the link in the left column. Regards, Wouter (talk) 07:17, 3 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It's not just for you, it is useful for other users as it translates into other languages. All graphics should have them.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 09:26, 3 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Remove border

[edit]

Regarding this edit; why is this necessary? This is just one out of 158 similar maps, all of which have borders. Information found outside the border on all of these maps includes the year of preparation (in this case 1912) - I do not think that this should be lost; also the map number (in this case, 17). In many cases, such as this one, other important detail protrudes through the border (in this case, the words "To Victoria"). Cropping the image will lose all of that information. --Redrose64 (talk) 21:32, 17 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

[edit]

Thanks for renaming that previous arms with their date of use. I screwed up the naming of the current arms by accident, could you rename them just "Coat of Arms of Saint Kitts and Nevis"? Thanks. opaque

[edit]

Back in late 2006, I very deliberately opaqued-up some of my SVG images whose foreground consisted solely of a pure-black outline, since at that time the Wikimedia software was not generating appropriate "bKGD" chunks in the rendered PNGs, and this only exacerbated the problems which a number of software programs at that time had in displaying or manipulating alpha-channel PNGs, which often would result in display of the black outline against a dirty-gray background, or in the worst-case scenario (as in Google Image Search previews or certain older image-editing programs) the image would display as a completely uniform blank black rectangle. AnonMoos (talk) 16:04, 6 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I know what you are talking about, I saw a lot of that myself. However, that was four years ago, a lot of those bugs have been fixed, would you object to them being made opaque now?--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 05:25, 7 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
(Assume you mean "transparent".) I guess, not, except in the cases where there are specific spin-off images (i.e. Image:Labrys-symbol.svg and Image:Labrys-symbol-transparent.svg, or Image:Hebrew_Chai_Symbol.svg and Image:Hebrew_Chai_Symbol trans.svg). However, there's little point in requesting transparentization of PNGs when an SVG is already available, since transparentizing anti-aliased PNGs is a tricky and "lossy" operation... AnonMoos (talk) 08:48, 7 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Not too sure what the usefulness of adding an "opaque" template to that image is, since it would be fairly pointless to even attempt transparentization without having access to an image around five times as large as the currently-uploaded version. It seems to me that transparentization is pretty low-priority there, since it's speculatively contingent on having access to a higher-resolution version which might not even exist right now... AnonMoos (talk) 13:29, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Kintetsubuffalo, why its so important for you to have this single stamp cropped? As I wrote in my 1st redo, there are many thousands of stamps with this kind of border and til now all are accepted by users or admins. Reason for the same kind of doing so (most important is the same style, not the border) is to show the stamps in different lists and articles in same relative size, for example pls take a look at de:Briefmarken-Jahrgang_1938_der_Deutschen_Reichspost in 3rd row of the table. Didn't you think this looks worse? In fact the cropped right stamp is smaller then the other one. Therefore I ask you to undo you replace by your self because I dont want to start an editwar. If you like to have a 3rd pair of eyes for doing a final decision feel free to ask an not involved person to discus with us about on the talk page of the stamp pic. Alternatively I ask you to cropp the may be 5.000+ other stamps also - but please by your self ;-) NobbiP talk 18:31, 12 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

As I have said several times, it is Wiki policy to remove borders or trim them down as they are not the focus of the image. The image is the focus. The fact that other stamps exist in such condition does not make it correct, they should be trimmed down, and will be, over time. You may want to ask yourself, why is it so important for you to have this single stamp uncropped? Your alternate suggestion is not worth response.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 18:40, 12 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Why it's important for me to have this uncropped? I wrote you and showed you a link to a list with many stamps where this is the only one who doesn't fit to the size and general viewing. There are reasons to have a border on a pic and for me its much more important then bean counting. NobbiP talk 18:52, 12 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You have been warned about your behaviour in the past but unfortunately it seems you have ignored it. Also you should not remove comments from your talk page, only time you can do so is when you are archiving. Bidgee (talk) 23:56, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong, I can and will remove anyone's vomit from my own talkpage if I don't want it there. Anyone who first approaches with "I do not accept..." deserves to be removed from my page without comment. You have my contempt as well.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 04:04, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Fact is you do not own your talk page, removing messages by others in reply to a dispute is uncivil and hostile. If your going to be as hostile as you have been with the disruption and the comment you just made, you are unlikely to be unblocked before the 1 week block expires and you also risk being blocked from the project indefinitely. Bidgee (talk) 05:06, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I meet kindness with kindness, rudeness with rudeness, just as anyone does. Point by point:
  • The "edit war" was in response to someone removing my tags retaliatorily, simply because they were my tags. I tried to bring this to the attention of admins, nothing was done.
  • The "disruptive behavior" on the Eagle knot was one edit replacing my tag, as others have now pointed out, the alternate version was not suitable. I was not uncivil to the user until they were bitey on my talkpage, and then I was not rude, just undid them here. That user then retaliatorily put up one of the images I posted for deletion. This place is nothing but backbiting and recriminations.

  • I have no desire to be unblocked before the week is out, I have much more important things on my plate and it serves as a badge of honor to show that the tiny minds here go after a mosquito with a sledgehammer. This place is not so valuable as en:wp, where admins are generally more balanced, I just come here when I need to, not because I revel in my time here. Frankly this place is uncivil and hostile, I've felt that since I came here, so any behavior you perceive on my part is reaction to how I am treated.
  • I have to desire to banter back and forth with you here, leave me blocked and go find someone else to bullyrag. For the record I would like to use stronger language with you here, but your ears have already been covered. Please go do something else, I don't need to come back here for a week. Fear not, I won't erase this discussion.

[edit]

Look, I will revert your edit, that's why I brought the issue to your attention here. If you don't want to diskuss it, it is your choice. Cheers --Cwbm (commons) (talk) 08:23, 11 November 2010 (UTC)

Which one do you intend to revert, and can you be less bitey when you talk to people? I know English is not your first language, but your tone is abrupt and rude, which is a large part of our communication problem. That's why I remove your posts in the first place.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 08:26, 11 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

adding move template before you move the image seconds later

[edit]

Is there a reason why you do that? You can move the file without adding the template first. Is there any benefit that compensates for inflating the version history? Plus it does not help anybody if you don't add an edit summary. Cheers --Cwbm (commons) (talk) 15:52, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

I didn't know there was another way I could do it, I thought it had to be with the template so it automatically gives the reasoning.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 17:49, 18 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Depending on the skin you use on the top of the page there is either a move tab or you get to it if you go on the star and the drop down menu opens. Then you get to the moving page there you can enter the reason. --Cwbm (commons) (talk) 08:08, 22 November 2010 (UTC)

Okay, I see the move tab, that works for images like it does for articles? Great, I did not know that, thank you. I don't see any star, but I see one when I go to the Japanese Wikipedia.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 09:39, 22 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I just tried it, I don't think it puts it through all the interwiki bot commands, though.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 10:08, 22 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I have a tab named “Move & Replace”. Don't you have it (question also goes to cwbm)? If so, it might be for admins only. --Leyo 12:14, 22 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Mine just says "Move", I am guessing it's just for admins.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 12:23, 22 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipe-tan

[edit]

I didn't draw it. It was taken from http://sigurdhosenfeld.deviantart.com/art/Wikipe-tan-65541721?moodonly=69 under a CC license.Geni (talk) 19:16, 27 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

What is the point of adding a "remove borders" tag to that image? The enclosing black box was part of the original printed table, it's not conspicuously large and intrusive, and it would be impossible to cleanly remove along the sides without resorting to "lossy" JPEG editing (which in general should be somewhat discouraged in cases of this type)... AnonMoos (talk) 16:12, 3 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Not to mention the bottom border is already cut off...--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 11:16, 4 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the "remove borders" tag from that image because lossless JPEG manipulation tools would not be able to achieve satisfactory results, and "lossy" JPEG editing should not be encouraged in cases of this type (if someone does a lossy edit -- probably involving rotating as well as cropping -- they should upload the result under a new name, and not overwrite the existing image). AnonMoos (talk) 18:03, 18 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Can you explain what was unsatisfactory? The new version looked better in several aspects.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 17:30, 19 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Because it used significant lossy JPEG editing on a semi-low-resolution image, and therefore was a significantly "new" image. There's no problem with uploading it under a new name, in which case everybody can freely decide whether they want to use the original or the altered version. AnonMoos (talk) 16:19, 22 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The Wikipe-tan drawings are complete little mini-"paintings", not really isolated elements, so there's little use for placing a de-opaque template on them (unless to try to impose a philosophy which the original image uploaders probably do not share)... AnonMoos (talk) 16:19, 22 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

80% of the related images have transparency, these were stragglers. Labeled them to match set.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 17:49, 22 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The last three topics on my talkpage are all from you. Is there a reason you seem to be watching my edits?--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 17:50, 22 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The reason is that I have 12,537 pages on my watchlist -- and relatively few of them are ordinary photographs (with far more being illustrations, paintings. drawings, diagrams, symbols, etc.). If I were "stalking" you, then things would quickly get far more annoying for everybody all around. However, in those edits of yours which I do happen to see, it seems like you take a somewhat automatic and mechanical approach to de-opaquing and cropping requests. They can certainly be justified in many cases to get rid of obnoxious and intrusive features which detract from an image's usablility -- but maybe you should pause more often to think through what it would take to de-opaque and crop each particular image, and whether the end-result would really in fact be very useful, when balanced against other relevant factors. Re: File:Latin alphabet world distribution.svg -- I don't know why, but a lot of those world distribution maps have useless transparent blank space around the edge. However, the "|excess blank space" parameter is not being displayed in the actual page text, and the {{remove border| template on the page is of somewhat unclear meaning and limited usefulness until and unless the "excess blank space" text is displayed. As far as I can tell, Template:Remove border/en doesn't take additional parameters at all (maybe it should, but it doesn't). AnonMoos (talk) 17:15, 14 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Watermark on photo of stamp

[edit]

You added {{watermark}} to File:Postzegel NL 1937 nr293-295.jpg. But note that what you probably consider as watermarks are the postmarks on the stamps and should not be removed. The text above the stamps is the description as in the stamp album, where is has been scanned from. That is probably why you added {{remove border}}. If somebody does not want to see that, it can be removed easily and has already been done see File:5th World Scout Jamboree Netherlands stamps 1937.png. Don't want to be too contentious, but that's a historical document photo, and it would be pretty much impossible to do any significant lossless cropping which wouldn't eat away at the page area. @Hedwig in Washington: Blocked I understand, and well worth it, but why were my tools revoked, without discussion? I've not misused them and they've nothing to do with this. His hands/keyboard are not clean in all this.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 00:49, 18 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
See Commons:Autopatrolled This right is also granted to users that make a large amount of good edits, that do not need to be patrolled, to reduce the clutter on Watchlists.
And Commons:Requests for rights#Filemover As a rough guideline, administrators usually require editors to have made between 1,000 and 1,500 useful non-botlike edits or a large amount of justified renaming requests at the Commons before they will consider granting the filemover right.
And Com:FR The file rename function allows renaming (or "moving") of files, which works basically the same way as "normal" page moves. The function is only available to administrators and file movers.
There is no need for a discussion, rights are given or revoked by admins at their discretion according the the rules I mentioned above. According to these rules you need to make good edits (autopatrolled). For filemoving rights you would be working in an area that is only available to admins. For both rights to be applied you need to be a trusted user. You have clearly shown that you can't be autopatrolled / trusted. Therefore you can't be filemover either, as this would imply that you are trustworthy. You can certainly reapply for those rights after your block. --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 01:16, 18 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The renaming template is:

{{rename|new name|number of renaming Criterion|verbal explanation}}

for example {{rename|St. Hubertus Schützenbruderschaft Kobern.jpg|2|more descriptive name}} Number of Criterion you can find on the Commons:File_renaming site.
When you are an uploader, the best is Criterion #1, uploaders have special favours ;-)
Fix the file renaming template in this file, please. You should give us only a number of the Criterion and add a verbal explanation.

@Wieralee: Yes, she and I are working together on what is needed, and you'll note not all of the M-tone images have that -01. She's been adding medium (what the M stands for) and dark (what the D stands for), and different styles of hats, all at my request per the Scouting WikiProject. Where do you see that more templates are planned for other colors of skin? I'm the fellow directing the thing and I know of no such plans. We're not doing this to get the whole range of skintone (there would be about 40, that's silly), we're doing this so that the Girl Guides of South Sudan don't have a Caucasian modeling the uniform, that's it. There will be occasionally specific templates like the plaid Japanese one, but we foresee no need to do anything more along the lines of skin.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 07:47, 26 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • There are no doubts when an original uploader is requesting for rename -- such renamings are very quick. But in this situation we don't see your talks with this user (it would be better to give the link in the request) -- and we don't know what to do... There are many people who are serching occasions "to change something" -- and the original uploaders are angry sometimes... Wieralee (talk) 07:54, 26 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not one of those people changing something "to change something", I have too much on my plate now. There's no links because she and I have been e-mailing images and ideas back and forth for a week. Do you want me to have her send you an okay note? I can do that, I'm in no rush, except we will be adding these to the infobox template as soon as an admin gets to that.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 08:02, 26 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Kintetsbuffalo. Why are you using a plural in your request here? Regards, --Gereon K. (talk) 16:48, 31 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Gereon K.The rules say to keep the same language as the original image. I don't speak German, so I'm guessing. If you know better, please use better German.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 16:51, 31 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I would recommend not to writen in languages that you do not know then. --Gereon K. (talk) 16:52, 31 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Gereon K.When I put the names in English, the renames get denied. If you have a real solution, I'm listening. Otherwise you're wasting both of our time.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 16:55, 31 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The real solution would be to just request the renaming of file in languages that you know. --Gereon K. (talk) 16:59, 31 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
And when I do that, as I said, they often get rejected. You're not paying attention, and you need not belabor this further. Sayonara.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 17:01, 31 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

FDOT Rest Area License Plates

[edit]

Do you know of other photographs of license plates installed on Florida rest area buildings? Because I can think of at least one other that could probably also be renamed. ----DanTD (talk) 13:09, 10 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

DanTD I've found 2 thus far--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 13:12, 10 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I took that one too. I can see renaming that as well as a lot of others at that rest area. ----DanTD (talk) 13:13, 10 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
BTW, I chose a better rename for File:New bumper.jpg. The subject really isn't the license plate in this case. ----DanTD (talk) 14:05, 10 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki-friendly coloration?

[edit]

I see a cleanup tag you put on National IQ per country - estimates by Lynn and Vanhanen 2006.png way back in 2010. What exactly do you mean by wiki-friendly coloration? --Lasunncty (talk) 07:28, 25 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Lasunncty, thanks for catching this. The shades are too subtle, some viewers can't tell between the different shades, so the colors should be made more pronounced.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 15:08, 25 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Do you think there should be color bins versus a continuous scale? I put the colors into a colorblindness palette checker and they seem ok, but if the IQ values are only different by a point or two then the colors are going to be pretty similar no matter what. --Lasunncty (talk) 08:48, 26 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, can you explain what's up with all those 1-2 degrees rotation requests for license plates? As far as I can see they're pretty straight, and rotating them by e.g. the 1 deg. would actually make them worse. --Wanted (talk) 23:44, 26 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Wanted You'll have to give me examples, I've been making rotate requests for a year and most of them have gone undone. Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 03:52, 27 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
They are visible on the top of category which I linked above. I wanted to execute them, but I just fail to see the reason for rotation. --Wanted (talk) 09:03, 27 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

English version of File:Ostural-Spur.png

[edit]

Hi Kintetsubuffalo,

in Map-Workshop you requested a english version of my map of the contaminated area of the en:Kyshtym disaster. As I don't have time to create translated versions of that map, I have uploaded the GIMP source file, so someone else may step in. --JanRieke (talk) 10:25, 19 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

New numberplates upload

[edit]

Hi mate, just letting you know I have made some recent uploads of vehicle registration plates from Australia that could be used to illustrate/update the vehicle registration plate article. Since I am banned from automobiles, I can only appeal the ban after 6 months (so Feb 2022 the latest) so I am unable to help you in that regard, so just letting you know for reference. --Nim Bhharathhan (talk) 07:48, 4 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Thanks for uploading File:Pasaporte Español 2009.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.
