In this article, I argue that a dynamic of heuristic imitation marks Tullia d'Aragona's faithfulness to -- and departure from -- the Petrachan themes in the sestina form. The envoi is where the poets diverge: Petrarca into the topos of the impossibilia of love and a vision of his death, while Tullia d'Aragona's poem finishes by declaring an apocalyptic vision -- the end of the sun -- should the flame of her love ever die out.
This article draws upon a close reading of sestine by Francesco Petrarca and Tullia d'Aragona, XXII of his Rime sparse (Canzoniere) and the last poem of the Rime della Signora Tullia di Aragona et di diversi a lei (Venice: Gabriel Giolito di Ferrari et fratelli, 1547).

This study will recreate the communications circuit of books that might have been censored but were not: books written by a courtesan and a woman heretic, respectively, Vittoria Colonna (c.1490-1547), and Tullia d’Aragona (c.1508-1556). Employing Robert Darnton's theory of the communications circuit, this paper will explore surprising evasions of censorship by two women writers, humanist and proto-Protestant; with a particular focus upon the trajectory from literary salons to the Giolito Press. The practice of censorship was complex, intertwined with the exigencies of commerce, local culture, and politics. Below, I will clarify both the bodies of censorship and the Index in their various manifestations: secular and clerical, papal versus ducal, statewide versus local.

Abstract
Traffic appears to be a phenomenon that affects
our  lives  from  various  aspects.  The  main
difference between traffic and other areas is that
traffic  affects  all  sections  of  society.  In
particular, considering  that traffic  is a common
area used by all segments of society, it is obvious
that  columnists  have  their  thoughts  on  traffic
issue and reflect their thoughts by their writings.
This  study  examined  the  articles  in  which
columnists  wrote  about  traffic  area.  For  this
purpose,  national-level  13  newspapers,  1
magazine and two on-line newspaper web sites
have been scanned. 89 articles (2004-2012) have
been examined in this scanning process. Of 89
articles, 51 articles were selected for the content
analysis.  By analyzing the content of the articles
in a systematic way, this study  aims to  provide
invaluable  knowledge  to  the  practitioners  and
bureaucrats working on the traffic area.

Özet
Trafik  hayatımızı  çok  yönlü  etkileyen  bir  olgu
olarak  karşımıza  çıkmaktadır.  Trafiği  diğer
alanlardan ayıran temel özellik ise toplumun her
kesimini  etkilemesidir.  Özellikle,  trafiğin
toplumun her kesiminin kullandığı ortak bir alan
olduğu  düşünüldüğünde,  medya  mensuplarının
bu  konularda  kişisel  tecrübelerinin  ve
düşüncelerinin  olacağı  ve  bunları  haberlere  ve
köşe  yazılarına yansıtacağı  açıktır.  Bu  çalışmada
köşe yazarlarının trafik alanına yönelik yazdıkları
yazılar  incelenmiştir.  Bu  amaçla  ulusal  düzeyde
ve  günlük  yayın  yapan  13  gazete,  1  dergi  ve  2
internet haber sitesi nin 2004-2012 yılları arasında
yaptıkları yayınlar taranmış, direkt trafik ile ilgili
olan  89  köşe  yazısı  incelenmiş,  bunlardan
toplam  51  tanesi  içerik  analizine  tabi
tutulmuştur. Bu çalışma köşe yazarlarının trafikle
ilgili tespit ettikleri sorunları ve ortaya koydukları
çözüm  önerilerini  sistematik  bir  şekilde  analiz
ederek  ilgili  uygulayıcıların  ve  bürokratların
istifadesine sunmayı hedeflemiştir.

This article analyzed the primary themes of organizational dissent of police officers displayed on the forum pages of the web sites and individual, relational, and organizational determinants of dissent. In addition, it discussed the role of anonymity and its effect in dissent strategies displayed in online forums. The findings suggest that organizational problems, legal regulations and manager’s approaches were the main themes of police officers’ dissent in this particular online forum. In terms of determinants of dissent, holding non-managerial position, low quality relationships between superiors and subordinates, and strict hierarchical structure were found to be the main determinants of organizational dissent on the online forums. The anonymous nature of postings certainly provided an opportunity to express dissent with reduced fear of retribution or termination. However, anonymity also raised the question of validity of postings, the identity of participants and decreases the impact of postings.

This article attempts to shed light on citizen satisfaction with police in a community policing environment. It specifically aims to analyze the influence of quality of police contact, police work ratings in terms of collaboration with local community, neighborhood ratings, victimization, and feeling of safety in the neighborhood. The study found that the most important predictor of citizen satisfaction with the police was police work ratings. Feeling of safety was a moderate level predictor of citizen satisfaction. The analysis confirmed our hypothesis that those who feel unsafe or victimized previously maintain a less satisfaction toward the police. The results of this study have implications for community policing activities intended to increase citizen satisfaction with police. As shown in this study, police rating in terms of collaboration with public has a strong positive effect on increasing satisfaction with police which confirms the utility of main philosophy of community policing. In this respect, gaining public support and involvement is critical for successful police services.

Öz Örgütsel iletişim alanının kapsamı ve bu alanı ilgili displinlerden ayıracak içerik, teori, yöntem, ve uygulamalar üzerine akademik tartışmalar 1980'li yıllardan beri devam etmektedir. Bu tartışmalar, örgütsel iletişim alanının derinlemesine anlaşılması, sınırlarının belirlenmesi ve diğer disiplinlerden ayrılan özelliklerinin anlaşılması noktasında hayati öneme sahiptir. Bu temel tartışmalardan hareketle, bu makale örgütsel iletişim alanının tarihçesini, sınırlarını, alandaki temel teorik yaklaşımları (işlevsel, yorumlayıcı, eleştirel), 'organizasyon, iletişim, kültür, ve kontrol' gibi alanda önemli kavramların bu farklı yaklaşımlar içerisinde sunumunu incelemektedir. Ayrıca, literatürdeki boşlukları ve alanın gelecek yönelimleri de bu makale içinde tartışılmaktadır. Bu konuları tartışarak, bu makale örgütsel iletişim alanını bütünsel bir şekilde sunmayı ve bu alanda çalışan akademisyenler için temel bir referans olmayı amaçlamıştır. Abstract There is a scholarly debate since the 1980s regarding the content, theory, methodology and applications that define the scope of organizational communication and separate it from other related disciplines. This debate is critical in the sense that it enables to identity organizational communication in a rich manner and helps us define the scope of the field and its unique characteristics. Based on this debate, this article provided the history and scope of the field, analysis of the major theoretical perspectives in the field (functional, interpretive, and critical), conceptualization of the most critical concepts (organization, communication, culture, voice/control) in these theoretical perspectives. Current gaps and future directions of the field are also discussed in this article. By discussing these topics, this article aimed to provide a holistic view of organizational communication and become a basic reference for scholars in this field.

This article analyzed the relationship between the media and government. Understanding the dynamics of this relationship is essential as it has implications on the information public gets and strong democracy. For this purpose, different media systems, theories and approaches (cascade model, indexing approach, propaganda theory and hegemonic perspective) were discussed in terms of the media-government relationship. It is clear that the degree of commercialization, political parallelism, and norms of journalistic professionalism in different media systems influence the degree and nature of this relationship. By taking into account these factors, scholars have suggested different theories and models to explain this relationship. Although each theory or model constitutes a unique map for making sense some of the important factors in this relationship, cascade model provides a more comprehensive picture. As suggested in this model, political actors, the media and the public mutually influence and interact with each other at different levels and under certain conditions. Specifically, the interaction of four different variables (cultural congruence, power, strategy, and motivation) influences the government's capacity of setting agenda, the circulation of the preferred frames and attention and support of the public. All these variables and how they are used in news management and political rhetoric were discussed and exemplified in this article. MEDYA VE HÜKÜMET İLİŞKİLERİNE YÖNELİK BİR ANALİZ ÖZET Bu makalede medya-hükümet ilişkileri analiz edilmiştir. Bu ilişkinin dinamiklerini anlamak, kamunun alacağı bilgi ve güçlü demokrasi üzerindeki sonuçları bağlamında önemlidir. Bu amaçla, bu makalede farklı medya sistemleri, farklı medya teori ve modelleri (hegemonya, propoganda teorisi, endeksleme yaklaşımı, çerçeveleme, basamak modeli) medya ve hükümet ilişkileri bağlamında tartışılmıştır. Farklı medya sistemlerindeki ticarileşme oranı, politik paralellik ve gazetecilik mesleğinin kurallarının bu ilişkinin doğası ve derecesini etkilediği açıktır. Bu faktörleri de dikkate alarak, akademisyenler bu ilişkiyi açıklayan farklı teori ve modeller ortaya koymuşlardır. Her bir teori veya modelin bu ilişkideki önemli faktörlerin anlaşılması noktasında özgün bir katkısı olmakla birlikte, basamak modeli daha geniş bir resim sunmaktadır. Bu modelde belirtildiği üzere, politik aktörler, medya ve kamu birbirini karşılıklı olarak farklı seviyelerde ve farklı şekillerde etkilemektedir. Özellikle, model içerisindeki dört farklı değişkenin etkileşimi (kültürel benzerlik, güç, strateji, motivasyon) hükümetlerin gündem belirleme kapasitesi, tercih ettikleri haber sunumlarının (frames) yayınlanması ve kamunun destek ve dikkatini etkilemektedir. Tüm bu değişkenler ve haber yönetimi ve politik retorik bağlamında kullanımı bu makalede tartışılmış ve örneklendirilmiştir.

Compstat is a popular management model, which has been implemented by numerous police organizations in the USA over the last two decades. The central purpose of this study is to examine the implementation of Compstat in a large police organization (Newark Police Department) in the United States. Specifically, the principles and components of this model are analyzed in terms of their contribution to the management of this police organization and limitations in practice. Data were collected in this case study through in-depth interviews, observation of the Compstat meetings and analysis of the documents, and analyzed using grounded theory. This study revealed that this model certainly improved the management of this police organization. Compstat established a measure of performance, accountability and information sharing. While the contribution of Compstat was evident, there were certain points to be improved. This study shed light on these limitations and possible solutions for them. This model has a high potential to address some of the operational and managerial problems of the Turkish National Police. Future research should make a comparison of Turkey and USA in terms of their structure, culture, technological infrastructure, and policing approaches and provide a perspective for practitioners who are willing to adapt this kind of models.

Polislerin sosyalleşme sürecini anlamak, polisi ve polisin mesleki yaşamındaki dönüşümünü anlamamızın temel koşuludur. Polisin sosyalleşme süreci ve bunun sonuçları üzerine yapılan çok sayıda yurtdışı kaynaklı araştırma vardır. Ancak, yapılan bu çalışmalar genellikle büyük ve suç yoğun polis birimlerini dikkate almıştır. Küçük ölçekli polis birimlerinde çalışan polislerin yaşadığı sosyalleşme süreci, son dönemde uygulamaya konulan toplum destekli polislik uygulamaları ve polisin değişen demografik özelliklerinin bu sosyalleşme sürecine etkisi üzerinde fazla durulmamıştır. Bu çalışma ile ABD'de bulunan küçük ölçekli bir polis teşkilatı analiz edilmiştir. Tümevarım yaklaşımı içinde farklı rütbe ve birimlerde çalışan polislerle mülakat yapılmıştır. Bu çalışmada, polis biriminin çalıştığı çevrenin (suç yoğunluğu, suç türü, hedef kitle) ve toplum destekli polislik gibi yaklaşımların polisin sosyalleşme sürecini etkilediği anlaşılmıştır. Ayrıca, geleneksel suçla mücadele taktiklerinin yanı sıra problem çözme, vatandaşla işbirliği yapma gibi yaklaşımların daha fazla önemsendiği, bu değişimin de polisin iş memnuniyetine olumlu etkisi bulunduğu ortaya konmuştur. Bu sonuçlar, toplum destekli polislik gibi polislik yaklaşımlarının artan oranda uygulandığı, suç yoğunluğu ve kurumsal büyüklük olarak değişen birimleri içinde barındıran Türk Polis Teşkilatı'nda yaşanan sosyalleşme sürecini anlamamıza da katkı sağlayacak niteliktedir. Abstract Understanding police socialization is significant not only for understanding the officers themselves but for understanding the transformation of police in his/her career. There are many studies regarding the socialization process of officers and its outcomes. However, these studies focus more on large, urban police departments and ignore the socialization process of officers in small police departments, and the influence of community policing philosophy and increasing diversity of police officers on the socialization and its outcomes. A small type police organization in the USA is analyzed in this study. Nine interviews were conducted with police officers in this inductive study. The results of this study show that the work environment (i.e., crime rates, crime diversity, neighborhood, and target population) and policing approaches such as community policing influence the socialization process of the police. In addition, police officers attach more importance to problem solving, partnership, and public relations in this new environment which, in turn, positively affect the job satisfaction of the police officers. These results are also meaningful for the Turkish National Police which has departments with different crime rates and size and is increasingly adapting community policing or similar policing approaches.

The aim of this research was to examine the predictors of drivers' sense of rule violations including sensation seeking, aggressiveness, assertiveness, confidence in driving ability, time pressure, and perception of changes of being caught. Three hundred and forty-nine drivers working in various public departments participated in the study. The dependent variable namely drivers' perception of rule violations was used to examine factors leading risky driving. The result showed that sensation seeking, assertiveness, confidence in driving ability, time pressure, and possibility of being caught affected drivers' perception of rule violation. Sürücülerin Kural İhlalleri Algısını Etkileyen Faktörler Öz: Bu çalışmanın amacı sürücülerin kuralları ihlal etmelerine neden olan heyecan arayışı, saldırganlık, sertlik, sürüş yeteneğine güven, zaman baskısı ve yakalanma algısı gibi etkenlerin incelenmesidir. Değişik kamu kurum ve kuruluşlarında çalışan 349 kamu sürücüsü çalışmaya katılmıştır. Çalışmada sürücülerin yasaları ihlal algıları sürücülerin tehlikeli sürüş davranışlarını anlamak için bağımlı değişken olarak kullanılmıştır. Sonuçlar heyecan arayışı, sertlik, sürüş yeteneğine güven, zaman baskısı ve yakalanma algısı gibi nedenlerin sürücülerin kuralları ihlal algısı ile ilgili olduğunu göstermiştir.
