Something Wonderful This Way Comes...

Brynwood Needleworks - Cork Fabric From Portugal

I'm always excited to present new and wonderful things in my shop.

I now have gorgeous cork fabric from Portugal in the studio, and I'll begin making new wallets and handbags using this unique, quality material.

The top fabric is natural cork. It has a beautiful finish and is unembellished. Then, there's the blue cork with a silver fleck that reminds me of our bluest of blue Gulf waters. Last, but certainly not least, is the natural cork with a rich, gold fleck.

I have the most wonderful, new products planned for these fabrics...and I can't wait to show you my completed pieces.

I'm going to finish the Birthday table runner by Wednesday, and then I'm going to start assembling my new line. Back to the table runner for now.

What are you planning for this week?

Prepping Wallets...

Sandy Beaches
I'm definitely finishing up some commissioned projects in the next day or so. I'll be working to complete the Corgi wallet, along with this one I'm calling "Sandy Beaches".

My client wants a "Tommy Bahama" feel. Do you think this will do it? I'm pretty happy with the fabric choices for this one.
Run For The Roses
Another client chose this theme to surprise her daughter who works with race horses in Kentucky. I think "Run For The Roses" will be an appropriate name and I want to have this one finished by the weekend to get it to my client.

Creating always brings me joy, so today will be a joyful day, for sure. I'll show you the results tomorrow. Gotta run, honey bun! (giggle)

And Then I Hit A Wall...

This wallet was three-quarters finished and then...I hit the wall. The combination of fabric, stabilizer and multiple layers were causing Miss Ellie and my Crescendo some major grief. It's giving me a major headache.

I worked on it for most of the day yesterday. I changed denim needles, I changed presser feet, and I didn't even say naughty words, but so far the wallet is winning and it's still unfinished.

I'm going to take another run at it this morning before moving on to another fabric (already cut out) that won't be as contrary as this one apparently is. I'm not giving up either. I'll locate a heavy duty, industrial machine and beat this beauty into submission.

What's on your agenda for today?
Something a bit less trying, I hope.

Cutting Kaffe...

I've been preparing more wallets, so now I'm cutting some bright and beautiful Kaffe Fassett fabrics. This is the blue colorway I've chosen...
and this is the bright fabric that I've chosen to line in purple for the first one, and the dots for the second one. I know just the person who will be over the moon when she sees the finished wallets. She'll think they were custom-made, just for her!
In addition to the Kaffe fabrics, I also pulled this bicycle print that I've had set aside for a while. I'm pairing it with a black linen fabric. Mmmmm mmm. I'm looking forward to seeing that one come together!
The last one in this stack is a honey bee for a sweet lady. This one will be a surprise, and I'll tell you more about it after it's finished and in the hands of the recipient. Don't you just love how the golden fabric called "dimples" looks like tiny honeycombs?

We'll see how far I get today. My students will be here this evening for their next class. They're really coming along! I'll show you tomorrow what they make in tonight's session.

Incognito Finish...

I finished another commission yesterday. I was a special clutch wallet.
I wish I could show you the front of this one. I really do, but...
I can't share more than this until the person who purchased it has given
it to the recipient. For now, all I can share are two tiny peeks, with my
apologies for the "vague post". Yeah. I don't like those either. Sorry.

Almost Finished Two...

Yesterday yielded a start and a finish...I'm calling this one "Evening Garden". It will coordinate with the handbag I made at guild retreat and have already listed in my Etsy shop. The credit card slots are completed and installed and I'll add the zipper pocket and divider today to complete it.
This is the handbag that goes with this wallet. (I need to take a better photograph of it. The color should look like the wallet shown above.) Click here to go to the Etsy listing. The pocket trim on the handbag is the lining fabric for the wallet. I'll show you tomorrow.
This was my completed wallet today. I added a wristlet to this one. Pink flamingos make for a cheerful Florida look for my friend. Speaking of "Florida"...
Since first showing you this wallet (even when it was in progress) I've been asked about the fabric. I really wish I had information to share with you, but this piece of fabric was given to me by my friend, Susan, and it's no longer available. Believe me, I've looked. There is no information on the selvage, so I can't even tell you what it was called. I'll continue to look and will let you know if I learn any more about it. I'd love more of it myself. (If anyone has it and wants to share, please contact me with your email address!) Thanks for asking!
