Just In Time...

As I was pulling fabric for the Grammie's Jammies this year, I got the niggly feeling that I'd already used the plaid flannel for Grandson before. Sooooo, I went back through last year's photographs and blog posts to find that I had, in fact, made last year what I'd planned for this year. Great. Now what?

I went through my soft cottons and found this fabric for our "sporto" guy. Although they have two Golden retrievers now, their last dog was a gorgeous big, black Labrador retriever named Duncan. He was our grandson's "goodest boy", and we all miss him - even though the Goldens have also stolen our hearts. I think he'll like this fabric for his pjs this year, and I'll find a red or black long sleeved t-shirt to go with the bottoms. Crisis (and a duplicate gift) averted.

Then I got to thinking about the girls. I had planned to make nighties, thinking that I'd made pj pants for them last year. Wrong again. The photos from last year revealed that I had already made nighties last year. I don't want to duplicate, so I'll make these pajama pants from the fabrics I already chose.

I'll likely choose a pretty white top to go with the floral, and green or russet to go with the gnomes. I'm planning to be out shopping for them either Sunday or Monday, and I just take a fabric swatch with me to find the perfect colors.

I'm glad I take photos of the finished gifts each year. That way I can be sure to avoid what I almost did this year! Now that I've settled on the fabrics and patterns, I'll start cutting today. We did get snow yesterday, but thanks to Andy, I'll be able to get out to work tonight. In the meantime, I'll be making jammies. Woo hoo!

  1. Oh, that's such a fun print! Glad you caught all these things now before cutting, etc. Would you mind sharing pattern #s and an opinion on why you have selected classic "slim" cut... I'm just curious for future years' pjs... do the young people like that fit better? Inquiry grammies want to know... 😉 Happy sewing!

    1. Hi Lois:
Sorry. I didn't realize I cut off the pattern number on the mens pajama pant. It's Simplicity D0834. Our grandson works out nearly every day and has almost no body fat. I didn't want a pant that was going to be really baggy on him, so I opted for the slim cut. Truth be told, it's probably only about an inch or two closer in the seams than a regular fit. Hope that helps.

  2. Hah - good idea to check back to the year before! I don't worry about repeating for our older family members because they don't care if they get similar ones and I know the grandies have interests that change so I doubt they'd get repeats from year to year. This year I simply couldn't find Spiderman flannel anywhere in Canada so I ended up having to buy them. Not what I wanted, but when Spiderman is THE MAN there's not much else I could do. I was able to make his pillowcase though so that worked out. Now I'm on a quest for the Simplicity 'slim cut' pattern...wonder if they still make it. Sadly, can't buy Simplicity anywhere in Canada that I know of so will have to trawl Etsy to see if anyone has a copy.

    1. Hi MA:
Glad you found the pattern! That's a win for the Canadian. lol In years past, I've had to purchase the pjs once or twice because I was either so far behind or in one case, healing from surgery. I think the kids love knowing they'll have new pjs no matter what, and know they can count on their gram to come through. I'm sure yours will love his Spiderman pajamas just knowing you cared enough to get what he really wanted. That's awesome.

    1. Hi Sherry:
I know. It's a chronic case of "CRS" (Can't Remember S___) for me! lol I can practically sew them in my sleep now. I'm going to do a little retail therapy today to pick up something I really want to give to my sister-in-law. She and my brother-in-law live in Maine, and we're both always late in sending out our packages. They always travel to her family in PA, so they never expect until after Christmas proper. I'll send you a photo of what I get after I get it home.
