Isaac Wilk Oliver/de Oliveira
Isaac W. Oliver/de Oliveira is a Jewish Brazilian-American scholar of early Judaism and Christianity and a conversation partner with scholars of early Islam. An Associate Professor of Religious Studies at Bradley University, Oliver/de Oliveira earned his PhD in Near Eastern Studies at the University of Michigan. He was a fellow at the Frankel Institute for Advanced Judaic Studies in the Fall of 2012 and directeur d'études invité at the Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes, Spring 2023. He also currently serves as an adjunct faculty member of the Catholic Theological Union at Chicago, where he is helping direct the Catholic-Jewish studies program and teaching courses on Judaism. In 2024, Isaac Oliver became one of the vice-directors of the Enoch Seminar, an international organization dedicated to the study of Second Temple Judaism, Christian, rabbinic, and Islamic origins.
Oliver has authored numerous studies dealing with ancient Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. His books include, *Torah Praxis after 70 CE: Reading Matthew and Luke-Acts as Jewish Texts* (Mohr Siebeck, 2013; repr. Wipf & Stock, 2023) as well as *Luke's Jewish Eschatology: The National Restoration of Israel in Luke-Acts* (Oxford University Press, 2021). Oliver is currently working on a commentary on the Gospel of Luke for the Oxford Bible Commentary Series.
Oliver has studied at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem as well as in France, Argentina, and Austria. He speaks English, French, Portuguese, Spanish, and Modern Hebrew. He also lived for six years in French Guiana.
At Bradley, Oliver has received several awards including the Bradley First Year Faculty Award (2014), the Bradley University College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Notable Publication Award (2016), and the Student Senate Outstanding Academic Advisor of the Year (2017).
In the fall of 2016, Oliver founded "Talmud for Everyone," a non-profit educational organization devoted to the study of the Talmud that is designed for persons of all genders and cultural backgrounds (https://www.talmudforeveryone.com).
